Gary Payton II Trade to the Warriors

The Warriors have already made their decision. They'll just wait to the last minute to let everyone know.

If they're allowing GPII to be in the Warriors building I think they'll accept the trade.

And a medical staff can have a huge influence on Dame's decision whether or not to have surgery.

"Dame, there is a strong chance surgery won't even help."

He played with a serious problem for 3-4yrs that finally was corrected with surgery. Doesn't sound like the Warriors would have allowed Dame to play that long with that injury.
How about Team USA? Are they on the blazers payroll as well?

Apparently we needed to inform the warriors about an injury that he suffered while playing for them?

I remember reading that in the NBA protocol in the case of a player returning to action after surgery, was he had to be cleared by both the team doctor(s) and the surgeon(s) who performed the surgery. Payton's surgery was performed by two highly regarded orthopedic surgeons in Philadelphia

so this may be a case of a 1st and 2nd medical opinion vs a 3rd medial opinion
What I haven't seen/heard is the real possibility that it was aggravated or reinjured after he was cleared to play.

The medical staff could have cleared him & told him to expect some discomfort as he ramps up activities. When GPII was complaining about being in pain - the medical staff dismissed it as 'normal' process instead of doing another MRI

I'm now concerned about the Blazers' medical staff and how they treated Lillard. He had the same injury and played on it for years. Makes me wonder who, Lillard or the medical staff, was advocating for him NOT to have the surgery.

Go sit in your corner, dog!

hasn't it been reported that Dame had been declining surgery? he finally gave in after getting feedback from Jrue Holiday at Team USA and after speaking with Kyle Lowry. Hell he even tried to play through it last season until New Years, when he had to be sit down by Cronin et al. Once he found out we were tanking he finally gave in.

So he was medically cleared to play until it was in the team's interest for him not to be.

Monte Poole, the beat writer for GS just said in an interview that Payton’s injury timeline is not months, but weeks.

already walking it all back piece by piece

I'm sure all the national pundits and the Warriors bandwagon will be digging hard into those claims by an anonymous source that started by floating out of a GS beat writer ... I'll bet it'll be all over Twitter when they all retract their outrage at the Blazers and start calling the Warriors a dirty organization instead. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure that'll happen.

This almost sounds like the problem is not the Blazers or the Warriors but either GP2 and/or his reps etc but even if this is resolved with nothing bad happening to the Blazers makes me wonder if other teams might be a tad gun shy dealing with themfor the near future.

We definitely don't know everything yet, so we can't make definitive statements. With that said, I tend to agree with this assessment. It seems like there was some bad blood or animosity behind the scenes and GP is being a petty bitchbaby trying to smear the Blazers on the way out. I could be way off though and will admit to being wrong if I am proven wrong. We shall see.

I can't see why. Regardless of who you trade with you still need to do a physical for the player you are getting. If the Blazers called Minnesota and said "hey we will give you Dame for Rudy Gobert...are you interested"? Do you think the TWolves would turn it down because of this?

LOL..."waive the physical and keep him even if he's out another 2, 3, or 4 weeks"

3 months has now potentially become 2 weeks. This has been a fucking mess created by Payton

The good news for Payton and the Trail Blazers is this is an injury expected to heal fairly quickly and Payton should not miss much, if any, of the season.
2-3 weeks? That's a big jump from 3 months just 24 hours ago. That side needs to get their story straight.

I think Payton is full of shit and the Warriors are in on it.

Gary Payton II has abdominal surgery, expected to be ready for season

Bottom line. Blazers weren’t transparent. About the shots or how hurt he was. Lied about it. Blatantly. Said he was much healthier than he really was. Everyone can get defensive and hate Payton all they want. But this terrible on Portland’s part.

I don't see it that way. If there's nothing medically wrong with him, but he has lingering soreness or pain, that's not really on the team. He played for the Warriors with the same damn injury last year. He himself said that this was as good as it's going to get. The whole thing is bullshit. I would bet money that if the hit piece hadn't come out on him, none of this would have been leaked.

are you saying the Blazers didn't tell the Warriors about the injections?

by the way, how many injections were there...do you know?

And what were they for? Soreness? What was his pain level? Was he being soft? Dame and Ant sure alluded to him being soft.

According to Marks, the NBA has a database where teams can upload and review all medical records.

Unless the Blazers deliberately withheld something and were non-compliant, then this is just biased reporting coming out of GS. Let the league review what was and wasn't on the records then I'll believe this accusation.

Like I said, I would bet money that if the negative press about Payton hadn't come out after the trade, none of this goes public. I think GSW and Payton are trying to save face.

Look until this gets cleared up it makes us look bad but I'm not gonna lie I'm loving this drama because GPII is a fucking prick and GSW is being whiny bitches and Im laughing at it all.

Here's the odd part: medical cleared him and then GPII still didn't play for like 3 more weeks. Lol.

He's an adult. He's a bench player. They aren't going to force an adult bench player to play. He's not an impact player, just a conniving ass lol.
