I still think losing Jay Triano in the summer of 2016 was a big loss that never really gets mentioned. He left to be Earl Watson's lead assistant.

It's so hard to tell if what you are saying is on Stotts. It could be they are both bad interviewers which wouldn't be the fault of Stotts at all.
I'm suggesting that stotts' coughing tree might not be that impressive if they can't land jobs. Prolly a reach

Here's a question:

For about 4 yrs now, Vanterpool and Tibbets have been interviewed for open coaching positions. They are always at the forefront of candidates. Woj continually tweets about them and has even endorsed them as solid on a bunch of podcasts. DV, especially has been considered the guard whisperer.

Yet, why has neither of them been offered a job? Is this an indictment on Stotts?

I think teams are looking for the best X's and O's coaches they can find right now, the smartest basketball minds in the room. It's not enough to simply get your team to play hard for you anymore.

"but... but... but he got us to the WCF"

No he didn't. Dame (and to a lesser extent CJ) got us there.
I would say an equal extent, but otherwise I agree. The only thing Terry did was set up the defense to dare Westbrook to shoot - that was his lone contribution to winning.

I want to add to my fire Stotts comments. I really think it's time for any of the Blazers who remain on the roster to be taken out of the comfort zones they've developed under Stotts. That's especially true for Dame and CJ. They need a new coach who will demand more discipline and less hero-ball

I've been somewhat ambivalent about Stotts. But after this series, and reflection on his tenure in Portland I'm in the fire his ass crowd
It's telling how, after watching more playoff basketball because the Blazers made it to the WCF, that more people have hopped onto the fire Stotts bandwagon than off of it.

I think there is a 95% chance he's back next season.

I think there's a 50% chance he's extended this off-season.

I think I'm so used to expecting the worst in these last few off-seasons I'm expecting us to come out next year with the exact same roster (minus the guys we can't afford). Aminu re-signed 4/40. Stotts/Olshey extended.

i think its time for someone new

i think we've seen everything from Stotts we're going to see, nothing has really changed - still horrible sub patterns, zero in-game adjustments, still playing Turner a stupid amount of minutes, and not putting Hood in when he needs too, or conversely benching hot players.

i mean shit, even i can do the above....

who would be an option tho?

Ettore.

Stotts with a career .357 winning percentage in the Playoffs. NOT the coach to take you to the next level.

We have also faced GS three times. Cleveland only had a .318 winning percentage with Lebron against them.

Who has exactly 0 games as head coach in his belt.

I want someone with playoff experience. Someone tried and tested who has singlehandedly game planned in the playoffs and won.

SVG.
Kerr had 0 games as a coach...

He'd be a great coach, trust me. He has more coaching experience than Kerr had.We need someone innovative.

Injuries, injuries injuries.

I am on the fence about Stotts, but his options were limited.

The .357 is for Stotts' career. If you look at what they have done against GS like what LeBron did, it is a ghastly .077.

That is NOT worthy of bringing back over and over for the same result.

I didn't expect to beat the Warriors....but where is the growth? We haven't won a game against them in the Playoffs since the 15-16 season. And in this Game 4, they were without 2 starters. The Clippers won 2 games as the #8 seed.

Didn't expect a series win...but expected improvement and not the same thing I saw 2-3 years ago.

I think the growth will come with Nurk being healthy and Collins at the 4. I also believe Leonard should and will be given minutes next year.

Above all, it is up to the man wearing the letter O to decide we cannot win with Stotts as coach. He knows more than anyone on this forum about basketball. Until then, I support Stotts.

I like your posts but if you sit a player you must have a reasonable player to play while you are sitting the other player. Stotts does not have that luxury. We are short handed and the player you might play may be as bad or worse or inexperienced. This is the conmundrum!
Sometimes you have to lose a couple games in the regular season so you can be a better team for the playoffs.

Haynes: https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-da...from-trail-blazers-this-summer-134616480.html

Another major decision for the Trail Blazers is the future of their head coach, Terry Stotts. The team holds his option for the 2019-20 season, but it would likely require an extension this summer to get Stotts to return to the sideline.

Stotts was not pleased when he wasn’t offered an extension last year, sources said. As the second-winningest coach in franchise history and coming off a 53-29 record that equated to the third seed in the West this season, Stotts is deserving of a new deal.

You have 4 cars. A prius, a pickup, a lexus and a Lamborghini. The lexus is in the bodyshop and the Lambo broke down.

You need to go to Costco and want to buy the biggest tv they have.

Stotts would take the frigging Prius because it gets better mileage and he already drives it all the time.

Then he'll strap the tv on the roof and hit the highway where it falls off and causes an accident. He'll tell the cops he HAD to strap it to the roof.

Why would it require an extension if we hold his option?
I wonder if Haynes made a mistake in that line. Wouldn't be the first time.

But also wonder if Terry would balk at the idea of being a lame duck coach and "part ways mutually."

I'm sure Terry has suiters, but find it hard to believe he wouldn't want one last shot at least with this team.
