The narrative that the Pels were a bad match up is selective thinking. This team limped into the playoffs getting their butts kicked by the Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Denver in crucial games. The team was showing cracks well before AD and Holiday dismantled them.

Making roster changes is a needed and it not simply a reaction to the Pels sweep.
Don't forget MEM!

Well, let's see how it works out for OKC as they decimated there roster for George who is reportedly going to walk and for Anthony who is destined to stay. That's a worst case scenario developing right in front of OKC.

After all is said and done then OKC will end up with Melo for Oladipo, Sabonis, Kantner, McDermott and a 2nd round pick and a one and done playoff experience. Was that a good risk?
Not fair assessment at all. What if they would have clicked? That team had some games where they were championship caliber. They just didn't get it all right in the end. What if that team plays better in game one and goes on to push the Rockets in the second round? I also have not really got any reports yet as to what George is "Reportedly" doing..... He has not said anything except he would be willing to stay in OKC. So the risk is not over yet and the end is not certain at this point.

It's why I used the term reportedly and not as a done deal. It was also just an example of what risk taking can accomplish. If George walks and Melo stays it will be a disaster for OKC.

I agree it will be. But the risk very likely could have been worth it. That team had talent. Just didn't work. I give them credit for trying.

False narrative? A good team should not be swept by an equal just because of a "bad match-up". Getting swept by Lebron or OKC is one thing. Getting swept by NOP is entirely different. I think the story you're telling is the false narrative: Everything is okay (as long as we don't play THAT team...which also isn't close to being a contender)!
And my what a short memory - the book on how to beat the Blazers was written several years ago. Double Dame and make Aminu beat you. That's been the opponent's strategy against us since at least the LAC series. What NOP did is nothing we haven't seen before...they just happened to NOT see Holiday and Davis go down with injuries in G3.

The false narrative part is that the team is in need of a complete overhaul in order to be able to beat the Pelicans. A healthy Harkless might have done it. An upgraded wing would certainly do it.

It's simple....the Blazers lacked consistency other than a 13 game winning streak...they mailed in too many quarters of play in the playoffs...looked gassed...can't do that in the playoffs.....difference this season from most past is that starters acrossed the west didn't rest leading up to the playoffs because it was so tight..the Pelicans played 4 straight games of the best ball I've seen them play against us....they looked gassed against GS though. We don't have the bench talent to win while resting the core...need a bona fide 6 man and a couple lights out 3pt shooters at the wings.

That’s why its called a risk genius
... sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. No chance at achieving greatness without taking risk. If you are waiting on a sure thing to make a trade you will be waiting a long time... 6+ years of excuses from Neil... he is too chicken shit to make a major trade... because he knows he doesn’t have to because fans like you are content with being mediocre

What would you think if it was possible that we could have traded CJ and a pick for George last year. Would you say it was worth the risk if George leaves this off season? I would be extremely disappointed.

there you go again projecting what you think my position is. You simply post a lot of shit with no substance.

So Boston loses 2 all stars for a full season to injury and keeps winning... Blazers lose their 4th or 5th best player for a few games and it’s a valid excuse for getting swept by the freakin Pelicans?! You are so brainwashed man

Whoa now, I never called for a complete overhaul. I think we're two players and a coach away from being very competitive - perhaps a bit further off than you, but hardly what I would call a complete overhaul. But as things stand, we're very middle of the pack.

I personally don't think George would have been agreeable to that trade if the Blazers lost CJ to get him. Really you don't want to trade for a player that isn't going to be happy being in your uniform. So No, that in my opinion would have been a bad trade.

My basement is probably bigger than your house or apartment... if you want to compare accomplishments we can... you can keep mocking my posts... don’t really care the opinion of a 40+ year old that still thinks he is in high school... fams... seriously, who still uses that word... it was cool to say 20 years ago

Well this took a strange turn angry man. Now you want to compare each other and our lives for some reason? I'm game.
Alright lets break this down........
I will say that my house isn't the largest, but it is located in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Portland. So I'd be willing to give it a go on property value for sure. If you think square footage of your place is the best way to judge it's value, you are new to the game. Let me know and we can post our addresses on here and we can see what we find on RMLS for value. I just remodeled last summer, so I know mine.
How exactly would we compare accomplishments though? Thats a tough one. See I have a couple friends who are now powerful lawyers in DC that some would consider WAY more "accomplished" than I. But if you look at their background and the support they received, they SHOULD be.
I kinda did it all on my own. Scrapped and grinned my way to where I am. All by myself. So I believe my accomplishments were earned and not given. Do you work in an industry that we could judge your success? I'd be interested to see what you have accomplished. I love other people success stories. This one will be tough to judge, but maybe we could make a poll and let these guys vote. Like I said don't know where this came from, but this could be fun. And to be honest, this won't change how annoying your day in and day out repetitive angry posts are.
Now as far as me thinking I'm still in HS, I do consider myself young at heart. Listen to some of the same music my kids do, have a solid social media game as well. Been told from both of my kids groups of friends that I am heads and above the coolest dad they know, so there is that. Would you let me add that to my list of accomplishments you were wondering about earlier. The only thing highschoolish I seeing around here is a grown man wanting to compare their accomplishments and how big their house is with people they don't agree with on a sports forum. Really kid? Who types that kinda shit who isn't 16 in their mom's basement?

As far as the term FAM/FAMS, it will never be outdated. And the sad part is, you think you are cracking on me for using it, but you don't know the reason WHY I use it. Majority on here do though. Step away from your angry rants about everything Stotts/Olshey and google S2's ALL-TIME great "FAMS" thread. Thats why I use it.

You forgot to say you are the best "Blurry" photographer around.....

So the 13 game winning streak was only against injured teams and fools gold but the losses at the end of the season in which some of them were without Dame, Harkless, and Davis means that we obviously suck and have to fire everyone and rebuild?

Why can't there be middle ground? They aren't as good as the 13 game winning streak but they aren't as bad as they showed against the Pelicans either. In my opinion it wasn't the match-up against the Pelicans that was the issue, it was getting the 3rd seed and having home court advantage for the first time for this group. When they beat the Rockets in 2014 they went down and won the first two games on the road. Then they come home and lose game 3 and almost lost games 4 and 6. You have to have a different mindset when you are the favored team because the pressure is all on you. That is why the end of Game 1 hurts so bad. If they would have won that game, a game they were losing throughout, I think things play out completely differently. The Blazers would be playing with more confidence and the Pelicans would have been doubting themselves after they played a great game and still lost. The same thing happened to the Raptors against the Cavs and it was over in a flash because of them choking in Game 1.

Now that isn't meant as an excuse because we can't change the results of the playoffs. However finding a couple players this off season to the equivalent of what NoLa did with Rondo and Mirotic can in fact boost this roster. A team needs to keep improving each year. I'm willing to see if they learn from what happened at the end of this season. If that answer is no then they definitely need to clean house but I feel like some just expect teams to be immediate contenders and if they aren't then they are forever doomed to mediocrity. There is such a thing as a learning curve. Sometimes the worst things that happen to someone are the best ways to learn a tough lesson.

You did though. You called me a kid, which is a young goat. It was very sweet

ahh, so it's your misinterpretation of what I said. Hopefully you now have a better understanding. Next time just ask for clarification if you are confused. :bgrin:

How big is your house?
Mine isn't really very big and it's in Vancouver. So it isn't real expensive. I have dogs so the yard is big.
I have a second house i'm trying to close on this week in Milwaukie that is actually better than my house that i am turning into a recovery/rental type house.
I'm kind of a simple easy going guy that don't put much into possessions type things.

I believe you meant to say that my post is so brainwashed.

Otherwise, I’d probably be so offended that I wouldn’t be able to come out of my snowflake castle for a week.

Hahahaha... this guy took my post seriously and wrote a novel on his accomplishments with explanation... dude, you are the most sensitive guy I have never met. I’m no kid, and I know how successful I am, but don’t need to explain myself to you. Sorry to get you so emotional
