Im turning a new corner... come at me ith something legit and ill respond in kind. Until them im just gonna ignore how much you twist shit and assume you know what im thinking.
Ive never met anyone so adamant about what is in another person head based off of a statement made on one specific incident.

I'm not simplifying it down to racists or anything like that. I think it goes much deeper than that. And it's not like good vs evil or anything, I just think the southern outlook is a different thing, which appeals to a wide swath, but often rural people. It's a distrustful outlook, with a super Christian filter, so it lends itself to a certain brand of patriotism and expression, which if we're going to be honest, seems pretty damn antiquated in a modern world, and thus you have this attempt to hold onto the old and make things great again or whateverthefuck, instead of being forward facing.

A footnote would be the babyboomer reaction to growing up with the threat of nuclear annihilation hanging in the air. Talk about a built in distrust of technology and government and scary socialism and so forth. These folks are hardwired for this behavior...

ask dviss this question exactly as you've posed it to me......subservience is not a requirement when confronting racist taunting.....do your best to uphold the civil rights of the racist though..that seems to be the slant here. I'm not pretending to be Gandhi or the Dalai Lama...
 
CNN, an old trusted "friend" of mine. Is actually what drove me away from corporate media. I had watched CNN since it came out. It's what you turned to when other news channels went away from a story you were interested in seeing. In 2016 while turning to CNN to watch the "debates", I was blown away by their Dog and Pony show. Instead of asking "hard" questions, they were buddy buddy like, even with republicans. It was a disgrace to watch. So I went to YouTube and found real stories being shown to me. One guy I follow broke the Flint water crisis in Michigan. I trust him over all other media.

The problem with our media isn't just that it is extremely biased. Our media actually hides the truth from all of us. Google was caught hiding search results for Hillary Clinton back in 2016... Google it, if you can! :tongue:

Beyond hiding stories from the people. U.S. media manipulates the crap out of all of us, daily. Both sides teach hatred of other peoples views. Hatred of our enemies, so that we will all support every war congress starts in the name of "Freedom". Our fake TV doctors sell us all on what sorts of products to buy. Shows like The View give you fake TV, and laugh all the way to the bank as they manipulate their viewers. Commercials, we all know manipulate us, of course. When everyone wakes up to how manipulated we all are every single day, maybe our prospectives can truly change enough to accept other peoples views.

It's complicated though, no? Violence is awful but it's also human nature. It's the ultimate expression of fear, anger, hatred, and so forth. I'm a really peaceful person, and I can think of very little reason for random violence, but even I recognize "fighting words" when I hear them and I think that's @riverman's point.

I think he is just pointing out that you didn't say anything regarding the insurrection yesterday as it was happening. I know in the past you have spoken up against the far right. Maybe you could have spoken out against it before starting the both sides debate, but woulda coulda shoulda right?

Everyone else was pretty clear as this unfolded where they stood. No one here is required to do that. Not me. Not you. Not anyone. I think he is just wondering why you weren't.

I think we all need to be careful about making assumptions

This....if you come home and someone is beating your wife or child you can ask them to please stop or grab your baseball bat....I'm a Louisville slugger kind of guy.....sometimes one right makes a wrong regret being wrong

Then maybe you're struggling with reading what I said. I'll write it again:
It's amusing how you say next to nothing about people breaking into the US capital building, your immediate response to all of it is to discuss summer protests. Now of course this thread wasn't here in the summer. I don't really give a shit about the summer in a thread discussing the events of January 6th. I said I found it amusing how in THIS thread, discussing the events of yesterday, you didn't say shit about the events of yesterday, other than to compare them to the summer.
I'm not pretending to know your thoughts. I dare not dive into your head. I didn't assume these were the entirety of your views on what transpired, and nowhere did I say this is clearly all of your thoughts on the matter. I simply said it's amusing that your RESPONSE(not entirety of thoughts) was to basically both sides it.

Different situations dictate different responses. Violence isn't always the answer. Most of the time its not. But, sometimes, times like your example, violence is necessary.

You just described a completely difference situation to justify your post.
Of course if violence is already occurring and not stopping it will take force to curtail it.
Show me wheee calling someone a racist name is being beaten with a baseball bat?

maybe he could just ask if he is wondering instead of just assuming?

that's my issue with him. This is a regular for him. Only engages with me when he feels he can condemn me instead of asking my opinion prior to judging.

by this logic if i don't like a post then that post must be wrong right? Because i didn't actively approve of it?

If you were with your wife and someone verbally denigrated her right in front of you, you have no thought of whooping said persons ass?

That is common theme across the board. We could all be more clear with each other. It would save time and offer reason rather than animus.

of course i would have the thought and i would be very aggressive with my verbal retaliation. But thats all it would be. Verbal. Not physical, unless the other person got physical first.

and I thought you posted that you get it.......two wrongs don't make a right.....I showed you where violent response is called for .....and if someone called my son a fake half asian or dviss a pretend black I'd tell them those are fighting words...then I tagged...better yet...I'll let my lawyer deal with it....which you seemed to ignore...partial posts can be misleading but hey....you do you....the violence aimed at Capital Hill yesterday deserved to be met with force when necessary....it's pretty simple....I've confronted some horrible behavior by people over the years...one was a case of a neighbor abusing a child decades ago in California....let's say I wasn't very Gandhi like about it.
 
In my opinion, the complete failure of security of the capital building wasn't about incompetence by the various law enforcement agencies because I can't believe they would all be that bad at their jobs. It feels like someone had to have been in on the coup attempt. I could be wrong though.

i would say that would start with people asking others to clarify prior to judging and condemning.
Not everyone is going to know what is and isnt clear to the reader. Its up to the reader to ask for clarification. Not the poster to make sure its clear. If asked, THEN its on the poster to be clearer.
