Trade Josh Hart traded to the Knicks

Man, you’d have to work pretty hard and stupid to lose that game the way the Sixers did.

Keeping Hart and actually playing Brogdon would be a pretty intriguing back court. Along with the Ayton trade, it's not hard to envision that trio and two serviceable forwards being a competitive lineup.

Never understood this... why people think Hart "wasn't coming back" yet we opened up 160 million for Jerami Grant?

Murray was a head scratcher of a pick at the time just like Swanigan, especially when there was so much higher upside talent and interest from other teams in trades.

That's exactly why Hart wasn't coming back. They weren't going to be able to sign both of them, so decided to go with Grant instead. Those decisions were largely made far before the actual signings.

Thought I have read that if we don't give them a pick by 2027, and we somehow make the playoffs by then (which we would hope so since the Bucks will be garbage by then for our pick swap) we could lose out on being able to do the pick swap.
If we miss the playoffs 2025, '26 and '27 but then make the playoffs in 2028 we would then lose the opportunity to swap with the Bucks. If we don't make the playoffs in 2028 or make the playoffs any season between now and then or we fulfill our obligation to the Bulls in a separate trade... then we'll be able to use the Bucks swap.

There was no reason to sign Hart. He fits this Knicks team culture like a glove. In Portland he was the only player playing hard (I said this 20times before). Signing Grant instead of Hart was the last straw for me. Happy to see him doing his thing in great environment.

Entire Knicks team plays like Josh Hart. So fun to watch.

I remember the Blazers having some grit with that 1999 team that was 10 deep with Sheed off the bench. Been a long time since we've had real hustle for this franchise.
Yep. Players like Brian Grant, Greg Anthony, and Stacey Augmon were awesome.

He was going to bolt Portland anyway in free agency

The only thing that stings is how mediocre Kris Murray looks as a prospect.

Just want to say that I think eventually Murray will show that he was worth where he was drafted. He always does the right thing and his shooting will come around.

I surely hope we make the playoffs by then so we can actually use the swap since the Bucks should be terrible.

Hence why I think it is important to get our 1st back.

Just got into this thread and I haven't paid attention to it.

Just here to say, with regard to the thread title, this is ANOTHER one of Cronin's boneheaded moves.... Hart should still be on the team but hell, so should Dame.

FUCK Cronin...

He was a free agent. Are you in favor of losing people for nothing?

Kris has the fundamentals. He works hard. Murray gets rebounds, plays D, and can finish with either hand.

I noticed his FT% dipped from his big college year. That's gotta be rookie jitters. He'll get better. Murray has a lot to bring to the NBA.

I'm amazed people can think there was a reasonable path to keeping Hart that made sense for him or the franchise.

I can't think of a more obvious situation where both sides knew it wasn't meant to be long term and worked together to find a new home. It's the completely opposite end of the spectrum from how things went down with Dame.

Hart is a good dude. A stand-up guy and wish him the best. He was gone, but I’m glad he’s happy.
I can see how Grant isn’t an easy decision on keep or trade … but it’s a trade IMHO. Same with Ant.

It comes down to who fits the team and timeline once the young fellas are ready to make the playoffs.

I'd love to have kept Hart, but we were going to lose him for nothing.

Agree 100%. Get good value foe those guys, but trade them.

I just don't get how people are so angry about the moves we made. We were never going to compete with Dame. Time to pull the bandaid off and suck for a star. If we don't draft one fire Cronin and Schmitz after a couple years.
I think we could have. We could have probably traded CJ and #7 (Sharpe) for Randle and #11 and drafted Jalen Williams. Then we could have likely still traded Nurk for Ayton.

Dame, Williams, Grant, Randle, Ayton, is a pretty solid line up.... plus we could have traded Simons...

Maybe. Personally, I think that team is still a first round closer.

With a good coach I'd be shocked. That team is top 10 defense easily, and almost certainly top 5 offensively.

But even if not... First round beats choosing to lose IMO.

We could have run with that for most of Dame's contract then legitimately rebuilt with honor. 5 years in the cellar with quality draft picks and we'd be just as well off as trading Dame.

I don't really care to get in an argument on a hypothetical team. But Dame and Randle are both atrocious on defense and I don't have a lot of faith in Grant guarding 3's.

Randle is a decent defender. I'm not sure where you get that he's terrible...

I'd much MUCH prefer that team to what we have now. I'd be looking to move off of Grant. I'm not a fan. But he's still better than most starters Dame has taken to the WCF. And certainly a better defender than most 3s.

In fact, every player in that starting line up is better than most of the starters Dame has gone to WCF with.

Randle likes to take plays off. If you read Knicks forums they continuously complain about his basketball iq and defense.

Forums constantly complain about a lot of stuff. His defensive rating is top 70 of all players this season. He's fine. He's turned in seasons with really solid defensive ratings.

He's a capable defender. Which is more than we can say for most of the players we've had here with Dame. And he rebounds well.

That lineup has capable defenders and size at nearly every position, and they are all offensively gifted. Get them a good coach and I'd be tuning in every night.

I used to look at defensive ratings and took a bunch of value from them. Not anymore. It's just 1 data point to use but statistics can easily be manipulated and have outliers.

Fans do complain a lot. We can't just dismiss that though. Its another data point. As is the video I sent where when the game was on the line he didn't even try.

This forum complains a lot. However, I'm happy with the direction we are going and hope we suck 1 more year before making our ascent.

Oh, I agree. We definitely need to suck at least one more year given our current situation. Maybe more...

But I'm not going to watch much of it
