Even Turner, Zach Collins and 25 for Kevin Love. How many people will be pissed when this trade happens?

He's going to Phoenix I read today...Phoenix is giving up their first round pick and some players for him I believe....the pick was the big part for Cleveland

They want Booker to re-sign.
I would understand if some team like Portland traded for Love, because they could say oh he’s the last piece we need to get over the top. Before I get the hate, Im not saying Id agree with that, Im saying I think thats how a GM could sell it.

A really young team like phoenix, Im not sure why Love would really interest them.

Say what you want but Kevin Love would fit this Blazers team very nicely. Love and Nurkic could be a great backcourt combo.

So all players who have shown any ability have the same potential? Does Gary Trent have the exact same potential as Simons?

People are just acting like he's a sure thing based on such little evidence.

No. I don’t know where you get that idea — in fact — I related the scenario to another absurdly young player in Jermaine O’Neal.

But, here is my opinion:

Simons has a lot more potential than *most* for a couple reasons.

A) Age.

B) Height, athleticism, length.

C) Given the MASSSSSSSIVE disadvantages he had not playing organized ball OR college ball AND still looking decent in Summer League, Practice (from all reports and players bringing him up randomly) and in limited game time (while being the youngest, frailest MFer on the court) I think he has a pretty solid *chance* at turning into *something*. Has a decent shot, can dribble, get to the rim, too.

Did I mention he was cooking players that had MUCH more experience and size than him? I don’t care who it was against.

Go find me someone who didn’t play organized ball, missed college, and can come cook “borderline” NBA players as a rookie.

What he did is very, very unique.

And frankly, I don’t know why’d you mention him in the same breath as Gary Trent Jr. who played a full season under one of the best coaches and programs of all time.

Way different environments.

And If Simons went to Duke and played a full year, I’d bet my house he would’ve lit it up.

Dropping 30+ — no matter who you are — as a baby in the NBA is fucking impressive for all the reasons I listed above. He had NO experience!! Couldn’t even play HS if I recall so played pick up games!

Maybe. But that's it, just maybe. Jerryd Bayless looked amazing in summer league. I learned my lesson years ago in regards to getting hyped over such small sample size, against poor competition.

Jerryd Bayless had T Rex arms, absolutely no vision, and once again...

Played an entire season of college basketball and was coached by an elite coach.

Not. Even. Comparable.

Simons situation is EXTREMELY unique.

I'm not saying I think he'll be bad either. I do think he has a chance to be a great player but it just seems like it's a forgone conclusion to people here. And that doesn't make sense to me.

Gotcha.

Well, consider me one of the people who isn’t trying to find out how good he is on another team.

Doesn’t mean I think he is a sure thing or close to it. I’m just not ready to cast him aside yet.

Τhe point for Simons is he went 25th and he didn't really show that much after that to be considered an important trade piece. I remember last season that rookie
guy Alec Peters scoring around same pts Simons did against the Kings and then ending up in Europe. I agree Simons shows great potential, but I also believe nobody outside the Blazers currently value him that much. Better for us that we won't have to include him in a deal because i really believe in him. Again i repeat all he did is go 25th, have 3 decent games in G League and one amazing NBA game. This is not enough to change his status greatly.

Being a first round pick without playing a year of ball is pretty impressive.

Also, if you recall, quite a few people last year were saying “he would be a lotto pick this year, absolute steal.”

I would imagine those same scouts and front offices weren’t expecting him to play given the restraints he had to overcome — such as size — not having a year of coaching — and going from shitty HS COMP to NBA players.

How is he any different from any other player who made the jump straight from high school? At this point, even saying he is the next Travis Outlaw is just optimistic speculation.

Fair enough. I wouldn't throw him into a meaningless deal, but I wouldn't reject an impact deal over including him either.

One other thing is if I told you in this board that getting Ferguson or Diallo from OKC would be great many would say noo they have shown nothing, who are those nobodies etc yet in my eyes they showed more than Simons. Most fans overvalue their own players, hope is GMs don't.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be great because they both received coaching and played either overseas or in college.

We essentially took a flier on a HS kid. Kinda like Luis Montero.

It’s not overvaluing or undervaluing. It’s we don’t know what the fuck we have — and at his age and LACK of experience — has showed more than either of those players.

Have either of them dropped 30 in a game?

They’ve both received more coaching AND experience.

They are more known quantities.

Simons isn’t. And in his little time playing — has accomplished things those players have not — as far as my knowledge.

And is much younger.

It’s not really. Plenty of guys came straight from high school before the 1 and done rule, and plenty busted.

If the one and done rule were to be abolished you would see probably more of the same.

I wouldn’t get too attached to the hype, you can find someone willing to say anything.
