I remember exactly when I heard of Magic's disease, I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. The first time I've heard of Magic or AIDS.

That's well-intentioned, but profoundly stupid. Even if he would have lived, does anyone think he wouldn't have been elected honestly as a 1st ballot HoFer? I mean, I hated the guy, but I would have voted for him. Now, it seems like part of the reason for his election was his premature passing. His on-court accomplishments were enough. Why rob him and his family from being honored by the voters?

I had the same thought, but I think it can also just be seen as everyone already knowing he would be a first ballot hall of famer. I don't think many people will actually think the result had anything to do with his passing.

I get it, but I think a greater tribute would be leaving the ballot alone and allowing the voters to honor him without guidance.

The basketball HOF is idiotic and has no sets of rules or criteria. And no one really knows who they are. This is saving them from themselves.

And I don't know what the "NBA Hall of Fame" is as the tweet says. There is no such entity.

I don't believe so. It's not NBA specific. Jerry Colangelo heads the board, but there's a reason it's called the Naismith Memorial HOF, instead of the NBA HOF.
