Only $2mm left. He's looking for $3-4mm per year, which I could see someone giving him. Could do a S&T with Orlando using the TE.

Otherwise I hope they already have a trade close to worked out. Would suck if they do all this and everything is dependent on getting specific types of players in trades. They aren't the easiest thing to be worked out. Everyone thinks they are sitting on gold (except the Grizzlies
).
 
Looks more and more like Marcus might not be moved unless it is for a point gaurd straight up.

Like the signings though but still, two years too late.
 
Maybe Dooling won't sign with the Nets. Maybe he wants too much money. Maybe there's a S&T possibility. We don't know. The Nets still need a combo guard or PG, though.

I agree. I have nothing against Najera, he's a good player and all...but why are we signing him? What is the point in signing him?

We already have a glut of forwards, not enough guards. What the hell is our front office thinking?
 
If they trade boone or swill i may not be a nets fan much longer. NAJERA???!!! gtfo!!

With the right teacher boone and swill could be starters in this league. Najera is a garbageman. He willl give you some quality minutes here and there but he isnt someone you sign for 4 yrs when your team is in a rebuilding phase!
 
I think Kiki and Thorn know what they're doing. I don't see Najera here in 2012.
 
there's got to be some kind of trade coming. I'm not letting myself believe that were going into the season with this many big men.
 
well they keep insisting that the roster now will NOT be what it is in november(when thorn says this its like almost definite, which im pretty confident). so im assuming they got more moves to come and we shall all just sit back and hopefully enjoy the ride

Completely agree-- a 32 year old hustling forward to a 4 year deal doesn't make sense unless you consider the following:

I believe he is the only Mexican in the NBA. That could be a reason for the good marketing...
 
Guys these are 2 solid pickups. You cant argue with the Hayes signing and as far as the Najera deal i actually expected them to offer a 3yr $12million deal so we got an extra year from him for the same amount. I know right know these moves dont make too much sense but its obvious Thorn/Kiki are not done with roster transactions. This is all I expect for sure right now to be on the roster for next season

Simmons/Najera
Yi/SWat/Anderson
Lopez/Boone
 
I also think this is a good signing for us.
Both of them can shoot the ball well, and Najera is a good defender too.
Both of them are good locker guys who can bring a veteran role to the team and help the younger guys to develop.

The only problem that we have now is that we have too many bigs, and too many people on our roster.
I think we are probably going to send some of them away to balance the team out.
The summer is still young, and there is still a lot of time before the season start, so Rod and Kiki might be able to do something between now and then.
 
In other news the Mavs resigned Antoine Wright lol

this was a suprise, i thought he would be playing in the NBDL next season

The Nets moves have all been in reaction to what they saw as last year's problems.

One of the big problems was a lack of chemistry, a lack of glue guys, particularly once they dumped Collins.

Najera is a chemistry guy...

That's the best spin I can think of. The Mexican thing doesnt work. It works in Denver where there is a large Mexican population. It does not work in New York.
 
Definitely a lot of mediocrity (to put it kindly) at the SF position. I really don't see much logic to adding both Hayes and Najera to a team that already has Hassell and a newly-acquired Simmons. But, given that the key players (excluding Vince and Harris) are all very young and inexperienced, I suppose one rationale could be to simply add veterans that are professional, not prone to whining about minutes, will deliver their best effort whenever asked, will compete hard in practice to push the youngsters, and can keep all three of the scrimmage teams in camp competitive so that training camp is livelier and more balanced than in past years. That is, afterall, where the rookies will have their best extended chance to learn before playing games that matter.

The four year term for Najera does seem odd, but the small yearly amount and front-loaded quality of his contract should make him fairly easy to trade in two years or whenever advantageous for the Nets. I'm pleased that the Hayes deal is only guaranteed for the first year and that the team has an option on year 2 (although one report said the 2nd year was partially guaranteed.)

At the very least, the 4 middle-aged SF vets can all feel some comfort together if one of the rookies plays well enough to keep them nailed to the bench (including CDR at the two, moving Vince to SF). Just a gut feeling, but I think Simmons will wind up being the starter since he seems to be the most well-rounded of the bunch.

Now I'm going to have Lakers finals/Mutumbo nightmares.

I can take signing Hayes, and I can take Najera; we needed a SF. I don't get signing two SF's the same day, especially with CDR and RA having great Summer Leagues; great enough to give reasonable expectations for regular reason performances.
 
Mavs don't have much assets left, after the Diop signing. Brandon Bass is essentially their only trade asset left and that should be packaged with Stackhouse/Jones for a 2 guard.

That was pretty prescient of you.
 
You seriously have to ask the question, what did Rod tell these guys to make them choose NJ? Especially at the prices they got them, I know with Eduardo's the length was important but contending teams were after his services, how did they sell Jarvis he'd get the PT he's been looking for? I'm really curious to see what our next move is now.

While these signings are a bit redundant position wise we did bring in two good guys. The only tiny issues are Najera's age and Jarvis vocalizing how he wants to be a bigger part of the teams he's on but neither are in any ways distractions. When it comes to basketball they're both hustling guys with size and range on their shots and I'd personally rather have 2 mediocre guys who put forth the effort on both ends than riding RJ for 35+ a night where he's so wrapped up about scowling over not getting a foul call and his man killing us on the other end.

The notion that these are perfect signings but a year too late are somewhat off, if we had RJ we wouldn't be able to get these kind of guys because the opportunity wouldn't be there for them to contribute and the thing about both guys is that they want to play and help their teams by doing so. While we needed help, we had a very set rotation for a couple seasons and most free agents didn't see a viable way of cracking it that would make the peanuts we had to offer them worth it.
 
Yeah, you definately have to question why a 30 plus player would sign a four year deal with a rebuilding team.

Still, like both players.

I think we're seriously just stacking up as much talent as we can get our hands on with what we have. The benefits to these kind of additions is that we can really do some creative stuff matchups wise now. We have guards who can post, bigs with jumpers, bigs who can score on the block, alot of guys with 3 point ability, a lightning fast pg, and one guy that's going to run the show and command enough attention to make everyone else succeed. We do still need a nice backup pg, preferably one with a defensive mindset but we can go big or small on just about everybody at this point and we added a good amount of firepower. It will just come down to finding the right mix and we just have to hope Frank throws everything out there to see what works.

Exactly. I don't see why are people are so upset the Nets signed two guys who can shoot. Especially since the off-season isn't over yet.
