Meeting between Dame and Cronin today

Joe doesn't have the balls to make that kind of ultimatum.
I knew that when I was typing it. I was just saying if I was Joe that's what I would need in this meeting. Who wants this bullshit? I wouldn't. Joe very obviously has an eye towards the future and I think life is a lot easier when your main focus professionally doesn't have to be divided by competing interests.

I guess I still don't know what Joe was supposed to do. Would Zach Lavine make Dame feel better? DDR?? Who else was an easy get? Bridges is not going anywhere. No evidence Zion was really on the block and would that make Dame happy? PG?? Would that do the trick? He has to be smart enough to realize there were no moves to bring a healthy mid-career all-star to POR. If that's the case then he should walk. I do think he is responsible for some of the mess. Why not demand, much as he is demanding now, CJ to be traded? Why not demand Ant or Nurk be dealt? Why the obsession with getting Grant, his friend, on the team? Did that really help? He has a role in this debacle too. Not blaming him but he has a part.
Dame would counter that with...

"The Lakers took the risk of bringing AD to LA with LeBron, and despite his health, guess what? They've won a championship."

Honestly if I was Joe I would want a commitment from Dame. I would want Dame to either tell me to trade him right now or that he's at least here until next off season. I kind of think Joe will be relieved if Dame demands a trade. He can knock that trade out pretty quickly and focus on the rebuild he has already been doing while saying he's not since he got the job.
Agreed, the team needs to make other decisions and need to know if Dame is committed for next season. Resign Grant, whom to target with the MLE, etc. Do we have a spot for Ant or need to trade him? What about the assistant coaches - do we want win now ones or development guys?

Dame needs to commits to all of next year or just say he can't and he's fine with a trade. Ideally the sooner the better.

It is kind of ridiculous when the franchise has unconditionally committed another $211 million to him that his commitment back is so conditional. I don't like that, and I especially don't like that its played out so publicly. If him and Joe had private conversations then just announced when a decision was made that would be fine. This soap opera of will he won't he is kind of ridiculous.

Cronin flat out said he told Dame of the strong likelihood of using the pick. I have no real issue with this. If the right deal didn't manifest, then this was the right thing to do at the draft.

But we have a bunch of assets outside of 3 that we have to use. Not sure Joe can or will use them.

I know your opinion of Joe but do you really think he hasn't gauged the value of the other assets individually?

When did fans start to think Dame would do something selfish that would hurt the Blazers cause in the end even if he asks out he does not want to go really but he will feel forced out by Jody Allen and lack of support he has gotten on the court. If you really believe this then as far as I am concerned you were never a Blazer or a Dame fan and you can pound sand. I hate having to be this much of a A-hole but when I see certain fans give Dame no respect after all he is done it really pisses me off and if you do not like my attitude well tough stop acting like a fool and the tamer version of me will return til then you get what you deserve the pissed off , man on fire version of me -- Enjoy
Could you provide an example of who you are responding to or is this just delusional ramblings of an old man yelling at clouds?

"bunch" of assets, our only asset is simons

they have tried to trade nurk, it didnt happen, theyre not gonna trade scoot or sharpe (neither they should), the other two rookies have no value, what other assets are there (walker, eubanks, keon, little, watford, winslow lol), thybulle, grant & reddish are free agents, we have no picks to trade

The guy said what he wanted. He was very clear.

The Blazers did what he said he didn't want.

He said he'd have a separate conversation with the team if that happened. It seems like he is now having that conversation. Will he ask to be traded ? I don't know. But Dame strikes me as the kind of guy who says what he means and means what he says. So if he comes out and says that he doesn't have an appetite for another 19 year old rookie, and that a youth movement is not his path.... that would lend itself to him asking out.

He was only clear if you leave out all the other stuff he said that didn't fit that narrative at the same press conference and other media ops.

This is getting like someone asks you if your chicken salad sandwich was good, you answer "It was the worst chicken salad sandwich I ever had" ... and then when someone asks about your exchange, they recount how they asked if the sandwich was good and he said "It was."

Dios mio.

Agreed. I've grown weary of hearing his constant waffling. Pick a lane. I don't think he realizes how much he's shitting on his Portland fans these past few summers.
Lmao, go cry yourself a river and everyone that liked that post, he a far from shitting on Portland, he wants to win here.

Drama queens

We were sold on 23. We were sold on 5 seconds. We were sold on cap flexibility. We were sold on paying off Chicago to use future picks.

This isnt speculation. This is what Cronin has told us. And presumably told Dame.

It's true, and it doesn't change my point/opinion.

He still gets way too much TLC. Being the best Trail Blazer ever doesn't make him the GM, or the owner, or someone who cares about the fate of the team past when he's employed by it.

maybe theres hope if we can free our picks (not sure how that works, but thats the only hope)

with simons + picks + fillers, you can work, without it its not possible

It's comical watching folks try to impose their will/opinion of what they want to happen. Then paint it up as neutral.

I hope he stays, I hope he and the organization come to an agreement together on how that works.

Stop sugar coating your desire to dump Dame and rebuild as 'What's best for Dame is to go to a contender".

Jesus. And folks talk about Dame being misleading. Not talking about any one individual here. It's a ton and in general. Some may not even realize they are doing it
Preach, and you notice it’s a certain bunch of the same people on here, 24/7.

Cronin said he told Dame that two days before the draft.

What did Cronin tell him when he convinced him to sit out the rest of the season?

What did he tell him at the end of the season?

What did he tell him after the lottery?

What did he tell him last year?

For all we know, he told him 2 days before the draft, "Yeah, I know what I told you before, but it's just not going to work out, so we're keeping the pick." While I admire the transparency, and even if it was the right thing to do, IF he told Dame that we are going to "push our chips all in this year", then you can't blame Dame for waffling ... because the organization is waffling on their promise / word / whatever you wanna call it towards Dame.

We will see what he has planned for free agency, but they've got to start taking some swings, as I don't believe they truly taken a single "swing" since they've said "Yeah, we're trying to win with Dame".

Yeah Simons likely has some value - Nurk might have no value or negative value. 3 and 23 were the big chips and those have been cashed.

Blazers don't have much else unless they want to give up future draft picks. That seems very stupid with the franchise on the edge of a rebuild.

Maybe he did maybe he didnt. Doesnt matter if he did given where we ended up after the draft, does it? He simply took BPA at every pick.

You remove Bill Walton from our history and you remove an NBA Title

You remove Damian Lillard from our history and you remove.... nothing? a WCF sweep?

Now tell me again who's the greatest Blazer ever

hopefully either front office tell dame lillard they have commited to the full rebuild or dame lillard says to the front office that hes requesting the trade

you have golden opportunity for the full rebuild with two potential all-stars in scoot henderson & shaedon sharpe who are 19 & 20 respectively, which means you can tank for a few years to add more talent with high picks and therefore make our future extremely bright and theres no way you should pass on that opportunity... we all love dame lillard, but theres no real possibility to contend and franchise should always come first

I agree. Get ready to dodge the critics.

Perhaps you're right. Point noted.

I have to disagree with your last paragraph. I think the monetary commitment to Dame was almost mandatory but I think it was probably done in concert with a commitment to put a winner around him (I understand that's just an assumption I'm making). If Joe did commit to putting a winner around Dame when they offered him that extension then I can see why Dame would feel the way he has been publicly stating he feels.

Besides Jerami every move that Joe has made has eventually become a move that looks like it's designed to benefit a youth rebuild. I don't blame Dame for having conditions to his commitment to the team. All commitments should have conditions to them... probably with the exception of loving your kids. Obviously all of us view this stuff through our own prism and I think that's alright.

Best post in this thread..........and it ain't even close.

Stop trying to create a way that makes Dame going somewhere else as....

1) his desire
2) Cronin's desire
3) better for the team
4) better for Dame
5) what Dame deserves
6) what fans might deserve

He has earned the respect to be treated specially. Period. Cronin is doing his best, with the hand he accepted coming in to the position.

Whether that meets one's own fan desires or not....doesn't mean dick.

No.

It would be like if someone said "do you want a chicken salad sandwhich" and I said "No. I don't want a chicken salad sandwhich. I want to eat at this restaurant but I don't want that sandwich. I don't have an appetite for chicken salad. If that's all you're serving, I won't be eating here."
