Stern had better do something about this new prima donna-driven NBA contender-building phenomenon in the new CBA. Sounds like the next guy wanting to get in on it is Dwight Howard.

Actually, I think the Knicks could likely dump enough salary to be able to sign Melo and then force a sign-and-trade with the Nuggets in the same fashion that Miami used against the Heat. The Knicks are only committed to around $41 million next season and probably could dump a couple of guys to teams with trade exceptions or ending contracts if needed.

Ok, so we have the first round pick, we arguably have a comparable player to Brewer to add in. Now, where do we get the 11 million in cap space to absorb Curry, and save Denver on the LT? Wanting a deal to get done is one thing. Wanting our GM to create some REAL imaginary cap space to just absorb contracts in a trade is another. And then on top of all that, you want to include Roy in the deal. It's completely laughable, especially with your constant griping about Cho not getting something done.
Awesome. Go email it to Cho. And whine when he doesn't do it that he is inept because your TradeChecker trade didn't get done.
That leaves us worse than where we are now.
Also, the assumption would be we're dumping ROy because he'll never be a good-great player again. For the bonus of acquiring him, instead of just Carmelo, NY also loses Mozgov and Gallinari. Why, exactly? But hey, no need to think it through. It's possible on trade checker. We fit ourselves in, so Cho is an idiot if he doesn't do it.
Then why don't we keep him, and make him one? LA is developing into a first option. All we need is a #2 like Iguodala, or Devin Harris, or you know... Greg Oden.Roy would be an amazing 3rd option.
Knicks get Melo for just Eddy Curry, Wilson Chandler, and Anthony Ranolph?
Is that a joke? This would be on par with the Pau deal in how unbalanced it is in favor of the big market team.

I honestly think if Roy stays then he will "assume" the role of 1st option
I can't believe there's not a thread about this here. It broke last night and appears to be near official. I think it works great for all three teams. Knicks get Melo. Nuggets get Chandler, Brewer, and Minnesota's pick (possibly the top pick in the draft). Minnesota gets Anthony Randolph and Curry's expiring contract.
This is going to shake the league. This makes the Knicks a contender out East. But Denver will still make the playoffs with Chandler, I think. This is a big big deal. I'd love to see a Knicks- Heat playoff series. Go New York, Go New York, Go!

I think it's more comparable to a sign-and-trade in the off-season, when the guy getting traded was just going to sign with that team anyway. Like when Orlando traded Ben Wallace to Detroit for Grant Hill, back when Grant Hill was expected to be a superstar and Wallace was seen as scraps. Hill was planning to sign with Orlando anyway, so Detroit basically had to take what Orlando would give.
Similar deal here, except they're doing it before the season ends. Anthony has given no sign he's considering anywhere but the Knicks...so it's essentially a sign-and-trade, not a value-for-value trade.
I do agree with Vinyard, though, that the Nuggets blew it not taking the Nets' deal...it was much, much, much better.
Bleacher report?

The Denver Nuggets have had preliminary discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers on a Carmelo Anthony trade, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard on Tuesday.
The Lakers' package would be built around center Andrew Bynum. Denver has no interest in Ron Artest and isn't particularly interested in Lamar Odom either, sources said. A straight-up deal of Bynum for Anthony works financially, but there could be other players involved since Denver would look to shed more salary if possible.
My feelings exactly. If New York pulls this off, it's an unbelievable steal. I'm really sick and tired of the "glamour" teams getting away with this kind of crap.Knicks get Melo for just Eddy Curry, Wilson Chandler, and Anthony Ranolph?

Wel if that's the case we would be screwed anyhow, aren't we over the cap?
