Merged: blazers linked to serge ibaka

Magic writer on Portland radio this morning made it clear that Crabbe is the most intriguing reasonably obtainable player on the Blazers's roster for the Magic. Nate's proposed deal of Crabbe/Leonard for Ibaka/Green makes a lot of sense.
If we could do that that would be awesome. Even if Ibaka left, that'd be dumping $28M a year of bad contract.

Boston seem the most probable destination IMO. They should be trying to win now and have the assets to trade for him.

They did hire a big man coach...from within the organization..can't remember his name though.
I believe it's Jim Moran

Lol, Jim Moran a 6'7" small forward as our big man coach. How's that working out?

WTF is with the Blazers and promoting video coordinators to positions WAY over their heads? Skippy Canales a head coach and Jim Moran a "big" man coach, right...

I can't imagine that Bill Laimbeer is so enamored with the WNBA that he wouldn't jump at the opportunity to be an associate head coach in the NBA. I'd love for him to impart a little attitude to our guys.

I'm more interested in teaching them the fundamentals of the position, than attitude. Laimbeer, for all his toughness, did not exactly dominate in the low post. I suppose he could work with them on boxing out and defensive position, but I think just about any experienced big man could help in those areas.

Give me Kevin McHale, Hakeem or Patrick Ewing any day. Too bad Pete Newell passed away about a decade ago. He was the master of teaching big men the footwork that is the foundation of playing their position.

They will be pursuing bigger free agents than him this summer, and have their sights set on better players

he won championships in the NBA and coached the Sparks to two of them in the WNBA....he's a great coach and a defense first coach....he's got a get track record of getting the most out of players. Attitude from his playing days is sort of ancient history...he's coached longer than he played....don't quite follow the gist of your post

Ibaka - 6'10", 235 lbs, age 27
Vonleh - 6'10", 240 lbs, age 21

Both of those are from basketballreference.com. It can be questioned if Noah is 6'10" but if they are both listed at the same height, maybe Ibaka isn't quite 6'10" wither. All I know is when Vonleh bumps people, they go down. He is slowly growing into his role even though that includes less than 1 play run for him per game. He is very athletic and quite good at defending smaller players on the perimeter.

Of course there is no comparison between the two. All I know is the 'undersized' Vonleh put Joel Embiid on his butt 3 times.

If the blazers do elect to trade for Ibaka, without including Vonleh in the deal, I think Ibaka will be a good influence on Noah. Imagine Ibaka putting noah under his wing, Noah could develop sooner than later.

IIRC, Moran was used with Dame to block his shots at the hoop. Make him learn new angles to finish better around tall shot blocking centers. No, I don't have a link, and I don't remember where I read it, so take it for what it's worth.....

We're not looking for a head coach - yet.

That's the gist of my post.

what does that have to do with getting a big man coach?

I don't think Laimbeer would settle for anything else, and we NEED a dedicated big man coach.

Plus, I think there are better choices for what we need. How many NBA big men has Laimbeer coached?

McHale has the most experience, but Hakeem and Ewing have also spent time working with NBA big men in recent years.

Ahh, that's it. Thanks for the correction! See, don't trust my shit if there's no link.... I remembered the guy was a video dude of some sort. So what's the deal- are they saving HCP for the head coaching position?

Offensive Line coach for the Seahhawks....Paul has had his eye on him.

Bill Cartwright is one of the true good guys in this world. He also was a beast of a big man in the days when there were lots of them.

He's been an assistant coach and head coach in the NBA. He's now head coach of the Mexican national team?

How about Kareem? Call him Lew Alcindor.

Crabbe with 4 games in January with at least 20 points. Nice.
