Yup. Portland got owned, not being able to overpay a solid role-player as if he were a star.

If this were a true impact player, like a Deron Williams or something, leaving Portland at the altar, then we could talk about Portland being smacked down.

I really have no idea why Wojo hates Pritchard so much. Like he has gone after him with such venom (even making up lies and exaggerating innocent comments by KP to make him out to be like this evil emperor overlord residing in a throne made of blood-stained gold in the ice covered northwest) for no apparent reason except the Darius Miles issue/statement... which KP didn't even make.

Sounds like he just used us to get more money from Toronto. In the interview from Oregonlive yesterday, he said winning and money were important. After taxes, the money he gets from us is the same as he would get from Toronto. We also have a better chance of winning. His actions are contradictory from what he said yesterday.

He never had any intention of signing with Portland. We just got used.

I'm bummed but maybe this opens the door for Andre Miller.

Then what do we do with Blake? backup PF?

fuck Andre Miller. He is not the answer. what kind of winning has he ever had? That was the point of vet leadership wasn't it? Playoff experience? yeah, that's a resounding THUD.

Feels like the good old days of NHL teams using the city to accomplish the same thing, don't it?

CP3 is not an option. He is the only thing keeping basketball in New Orleans and that franchise any good at all. It just isn't going to happen unless they got a superstar in return.

And you think thats realistic?

owner is a cheapskate and they're in financial trouble I believe. he's fucked up in the past many times IIRC. they don't have any fan support anyways so might as well blow it up since they have to pay him max money, the team isn't going to compete anymore..they've become a dinosaur even though they have a young core.

Bayless + Rudy + Outlaw/Webster/Batume might be a starting off point.

Oh well. Here's my plan:

Step 1: Renounce Koponen/Freeland
Step 2: ???
Step 3: END UP WITH CHRIS PAUL

While I'm sure many a people appreciate the fine hula-hooping skills of Travis Outlaw I do not think, and while only my opinion, that New Orleans management would find this to be an acceptable trade.

It is just never going to happen. They will gut the team of everything but Paul to save money, but they are not trading him until 2011/12 at the earliest.

SOLD! I'll take some snake oil too!

never say never. go big or go home seems to be the resounding theme in the NBA and its worked the last two years and likely for the next few.

right now the blazers are going home.

Talk about falling flat on your face.

You think that barring a major injury CP3 will ever be traded? You're out of your mind. NO ONE buys a CP3-less Hornets team, no one wants to watch a CP3-less Hornets team. CP3 is worth WAAAAAY more than his contract. Jordan never got traded, LeBron (barring injury) will never be traded (unless it's a S&T cuz he's leaving) and the same goes for CP3.

we shall see.

You know, something just came to me.

This is a guy who opted out of his contract with the defending eastern conference champs, and then left Portland's offer for one of 4-6 million more (over 5 years).

Should we be that upset over things? The guy obviously is out for himself and making the most money he can, regardless of his situation.

I'm not sure I'm that upset that a guy who left the defending EC champs, for arguably one of the worst teams in the EC, doesn't want to play in Portland.

The last two years were players who were on high lottery teams with cheap owners and incompetent management. New Orleans has a cheap owner but their management team is somewhat competent and New Orleans is going to be in the playoffs next year unless Paul goes down. Paul is very young, a MVP caliber player and it just isn't feasible to think that Portland can acquire Paul with anything less than offering Roy. They won't take LaMarcus because he is due for a bigger contract than the player they already have at that position, and a package of Outlaw/Bayless/Webster/Rudy/Batum will not get it done. Those are just players with potential who haven't put up big consistent numbers and unless George Shinn wants to have his body one day show up in the gulf half-eaten by crabs and other various sea-life they will never accept such an offer.

CP3 is good, but he's not Michael Jordan or LeBron James good.

If the Cavs offered the Hornets LeBron for CP3, not only would they say yes, but they'd pack CP3's bags and drive him TO Cleveland. and offer up picks for the next 5 years.

That said, he isn't being traded. ;)

I give KP some time now. What defines his legacy is how to responds/reacts to this. What happens next?

I'm willing to give him time. He has some work to catch up on. He needs to get some steals. He needs to work out some deals. But now, given current events, how he responds from this moment will likely define his career. He does nothing? Better hope Roy, LA, and Oden all reach their ceilings - that alone means huge things for Portland.

Pull out some magical trade or signing this summer, I think that buys him credibility with most folks. But if he stands pat, after come this close, people will doubt him. Right or wrong, that's the game.

Personally, I don't doubt him. He hurts, but he comes up swinging and make something happen. We'll see. As David Stern would say, "Kevin Pritchard is on the clock."

No pressure.

I have a question with anyone who wants to do some math. Won't Hedo really be getting less of his paycheck in Canada since he has to pay the higher government taxes there? I think if its 10% more or so over the life of his contract the money might look closer then it seems.

CP3 is good, but he's not Michael Jordan or LeBron James good.

He's almost that good. If he has a normal length career at the level of his seasons so far, I think he'll belong in the point guard class of Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson. He's been that good.

Oh, and as for Turk's wife....it's quite apparent the "small things" don't matter.

Yes, Turk. Congrats. You found a life partner that looks beyond the small things in life.
