Merged: Breaking News: Hedo rejects offer

i fail to see how odom helps the blazers. he's a good player, but he's by far at his most effective playing the pf position. the blazers already have aldridge there meaning that odom would end up seeing most of his minutes where he isn't best utilized.

I think he's as well capable of playing small forward as Turkoglu. He's also a 3/4 with the same height and weight, but Odom is more athletic and quicker. He's been valuable on defense because he can not only defend power forward but also pick up wings. He's played primarily power forward for LA because they needed him more at that position.

He has passing skills equivalent to Turkoglu's, he's an equivalently good scorer and significantly better rebounder and defender. Plus, he's a year younger.

Re: Breaking News: Hedo rejects offer

Ariza, I'm not hot on at all, but I would have liked Gordon.

IMO we have duplicates of both. Rudy to me is Gordon. Neither have good enough handles to be a PG, but both can shoot. Batum = Ariza without the "tude"

Turk offered skills we did not have. That sucks for this year but we will find someone else.

Wow. If Portland offered $52 million and Toronto offered $56 million....after taxes....Canada money = less than American money.

Eh, he doesn't understand simple math.

Just got off the phone with BLAZER PROPHET (currently out of pocket at the coast), who reminded me that, in his profession, he has negotiated with many various cultures of people. He's related that, generally speaking, Europeans are somewhat temperamental, passionate, and/or impulsive. He's virtually guaranteed that this thing isn't over.......that Hedo will be coming back to the table.

Stay tuned. ;)

FWIW.

Oh well, who needs that Turkish bum anyway? :(

Just like he went back to Phoenix after coming to an agreement?

Toronto is more cosmopolitan, much larger turkish population

and will suck as a basketball team for a lot more of those 5 years than Portland would.

I wonder what Marion is worth now? Not many options left for him.

Considering how Prichard treated, lied and used Miles

Why would any quality free agent want to sign with Portland? I have more respect for Hedo.

I would not be surprised if Hedo based his decision on the way Kevin brags about himself around the league and the way he treated Miles. These two situations alone speak in volume.

Kevin says he demands class and character from players on and off the court, but he's the most arrogant GM in the league. Hands down.

I realize that. But even he talked about the NBA being a business and money plays into it. Portland, after taxes, is offering more money. Plus, Toronto is a low seed in the East, even with Turkey. Portland, with Turkey, is a high seed in the West. You do the math.

I don't want someone that dumb on my team anyhow.

I'll change me tune if/when he comes back. Like any other fan.

I just don't understand why Toronto would commit this much to a player at thirty when they don't have Bosh committed for an extension yet. If Bosh leaves you're basically left with Hedo/Bargnani/Calderon with the possibility of DeRozan developing into something nice. That's.. really not a team that is going to make any noise.

Look you little *edited*. Go away. You have been a member for two days and obviously are just here to agitate us. You have not been a Blazer fan since 77' like you say because you are obviously not over 20 years old.

You know Blazer Mullet Woman is a regular poster here. Just without the courage to speak as his/her usual self, so he/she is hiding under a new screen name.

What I say? I have no idea what would have warranted editing....Personal attack? I speak the truth.

Do you think we have enough resources to put together a package for Gerald Wallace? or Devin Harris?
We certainly have the cap space now. (Could take a bad contract)

Would they be a good fit?

Alright. Seriously guys, come clean. Who was it that walked by Turk, yelling, "GO BACK TO TURKEY!!!!"?

Here's a quote about Marion from the article:

Marion was unreceptive to Toronto's offer of a four-year deal beginning at US$8-million per season. The 31-year-old forward joined Toronto in a trade-deadline move for centre Jermaine O'Neal, and Colangelo spoke glowingly of how the four-time All-Star fit into Toronto's frontcourt.

That sort of tells you what Marion is expecting.

On some of the boards, its been RUMORED that his wife may have had a hand in the decision.

Regardless, if he does get the reported 56M from the Raptors, then he makes out like a bandit.

Lon Babby also represents a certain player on Houston. I am starting to think that we just did him a solid and now he will return the favor.

Re: Breaking News: Hedo rejects offer

Well I was all for Hedo but I'm glad we didn't overpay the hell out of him

That is how I feel.

It is too bad this isn't working out.

I really, really, really wanted the Devin Harris deal all that time ago during the big Jason Kidd trade.

It seems missing out on that move has become a real lost opportunity. Nothing since has come close to being able to bring in that kind of talent in a consolidation / cap space move.

I thought Hedo could be a decent addition, mostly because of how well he fit. Not because he is a young stud. Not because he is a dominating player.

And because of those things, his price tag was painfully high.

If Toronto is so desperate to bring him in they will overpay that badly, there isn't a lot we can or should do about it.

Sounds like Toronto simply came in and offered him more money. There is nothing Portland can really do about that really unless come up with cap space out of thin air. Rumor he had agreed to sign the deal then backed out when Toronto apparently came in with a 5 year 56 million deal instead of our 5 year 50 or 52 million deal. This would explain the media meet and great that was scheduled that he no-showed on.

I think we can retire the whole "pritchslap" term

Excellent college and European talent scout and drafter, but obviously couldn't close a door.

I guess at this point we pray for Martell to get healthy and for Oden to become dominant.

I can't see us landing a free agent or making a blockbuster trade.

Should we hate Hedo?

Or is it not really his fault, just our over-eager media? Can we, in fact, blame this all on Jason Quick?

Battier would be a good fit.
