I'm with Shooter on some of HCP's posts just seeming uselessly dumb/vulgar, but I don't find HCP's avatar offensive at all. He takes funny, joking around photos of himself with Blazer personnel and shares a look at the team from a different angle, it should be obvious to any longtime forum reader that that is what that avatar is about, reliving a fun/joking around moment with Luke after his passing. It's like telling a funny story about someone at their wake/funeral, grieving doesn't have to be all dark and somber for everyone.

You're not pretending to know what HCP is thinking when he post that picture are you? you don't even know what you're friends are thinking.

I am ignorant in that way, too, of course.

I've run some studies, though, and focus groups tell me how to think about what HCP's thinking

Yeah, HCP's photo didn't at all bother me. Then again, neither did MIXUM's "offensive" posts.

These sorts of things are case-by-case, of course, and in THIS case, Denny made the call (although I know that I, for one, support him).

I will say that I believe previous posting history AND conversations (in threads and in PMs) go into every decision that is made regarding suspensions and bans. We really don't like to make this feel like a place where people will be punished for what they post (or put in their avatars, or fail to get me for my birthday) but if/when a decision has to be made to do that, posting history, conversations, and the level of extremity of the post or posts all are key considerations.
