This isn't meant to be snarky, but what does that accomplish?

We clear cap room, but does that matter?
Not a huge deal, but getting under the apron opens up the full MLE instead of just the mini, and opens up the possibility of getting other free agents in a sign and trade deal.

The thing is, with that many solid role players, there's at least a couple stars that will come out of that bunch. Some will have hidden attributes, where they didn't get the freedom in college (due to the coach, system, etc.) to showcase their true ability. Either that, or they already have a good base of skills. This good base of skills isn't that interesting, and just seems like the skills that will make them a solid role player. However, if they have the right base to build off of combined with a good work ethic, they can become a star. Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo are extreme examples of this.

Quite possibly. What I'm saying is, the guys being talked about haven't shown enough to separate them. Many of them looked like scrubs even deep into the tourney. Until the pre-draft workouts, it's just a bunch of barely educated guesses (no offense). There are a few posters here who talk up nearly every prospect and then trumpet how they got 1 in 20 right ... but don't mention the other 19. I get that we need something to talk about, just putting in my 2 cents that this draft class is way less appealing than it's been hyped up to be.

When you get three shots between 15 and 30, I think it's reasonable but optimistic to expect to get one good starter, one decent role player and one bust we might still be able to trade for a low value asset.

I am thinking one Jae Crowder level player and one Ibaka level player would be marvellous return. Getting a Jokic or a Giannis would be a dream but there's usually 1 or maximum 2 of them per draft.

NBA Combine began yesterday, not much action. Think they are measuring today so we might see some height/weight/reach/wingspan numbers come out later today

My ideal draft as of now:
-Draft Justin Jackson 15th

---Trade 20th & Ed Davis TO Indiana for 17th & 48th Picks
-Draft Justin Patton 17th
-Draft Harry Giles 26th

---Trade Al-Farouq Aminu to any team for 2nd Round Pick
---Trade Evan Turner & Meyers Leonard & 2018 POR 1st (Lottery Protected) & 2020 POR 1st (Lottery Protected) & Three 2nd Rounders (48th Pick & Recently Acquired 2nd & 2019 MIN/LAL 2nd) TO Orlando for 33rd & 35th Picks.

-Draft D.J. Wilson 33rd
-Draft P.J. Dozier 35th

Draft Haul: SF J.Jackson, C J.Patton, PF H.Giles, PF D.J.Wilson, G P.J.Dozier

------------------------------------
Cap Space going into free agency: $9M
Agree to contingent deals with one of NYK/BRK/SAC that will trade Harkless and Crabbe to one of those teams for cash if we agree to terms on a free agent. So either we have $37M in cap space to fill a SG, SF, and PF spots, or we have $9M to fill a PF spot.

What are the red flag on Patton? I haven't watched him a ton, but what I have seen is that he's a skilled, good footwork, soft touch, legit 7 footer. Why isn't he lottery talent?

IMO the biggest (likely) winner of the measurments will be Big Ike.

He's built like a taller Ben Wallace already - only 18 years old.

Guys I want us to stay away from in this draft that are in our pick range:

Leaf
Justin Jackson
Hartenstein
Rabb
Giles

i think the blazers should get patton with the 15th pick, OG with the 20th pick, and dwyane bacon with 26th pick. bacon, in my opinion, the steal of this draft, heck he will be better than that monk kid

OG won't be available at 20. He might be available st 15. Patton on the other hand could possibly drop to 20.

Awesome to live in a day and age where we can watch the draft combine on an iPad while sitting at the doctors office or on the shitter.

It used to be that we didn't have any access to it at all!

Agreed. I wonder if he could play some 4.

Dude doesn't really have much of a weakness except for physicality but he'll bulk up in time.

Biggest disappointment: Anunoby's wingspan is only 7'2. Not 7'6.

Jonathan Jeanne is a nice sleeper pick. Great mobility for his size, needs to add some muscle. Getting out worked in the glass by smaller players because he doesn't have the strength. You can tell why he's projected in the second, but the potential is there.

Kadeem Allen seems like a poor mans Lawson & Tony Allen hybrid. Quick and competent PG like Lawson with less offensive ability, great on ball 1/2 defender like Allen without all the skills TA possesses.

That first scrimmage was a lot of cringe

A lot of them won't ever play in the NBA, it is what it is. More about watching specific players who do have a shot at making it. I look forward to seeing Ojelay, Beacham and Simmons in the second scrimmage.

One of the announcers just slammed Portland. Said some player would fit here perfectly because we play zero defense, just like him.

The Blazers are going to have to change the reality before the perception.

Beyond that: If a team (Blazers) play lousy defense, then the last thing that team needs is another bad defender. Hence the announcer's conclusion is stupid. Another bad defender does not fit perfectly. A good defender however, would.

I understand. Just noting the perception from around the basketball world

Yeah. And the reality. Here's hoping the Blazers have a playoff level defensive team next season. Nurkic is a good start.

I am really hoping we can keep all three picks this year. There seems to be a lot of physical specimens with high potential available at all three locations. It would be nice to bring all three into camp and then decide what to do.

Does anyone see a Nurk 2.0 available as a backup? Player with a decent post game, can catch and score on the PnR, decent quickness on defense. Having someone who could do all that as a backup would be fantastic. Our PnR looks sooooo much better with someone who can actually roll and score.
