Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

here is a funny tweet about NY matching Houston's offer to Lin:

Marc Stein: Source with knowledge of Knicks' thinking: "They will match any offer on Lin up to 1 billion dollars"

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

A little bit of this ...

A lot of that.

Personally I think the Blazers are handling this situation the right way. They're telling Minnesota that there's no offer sheet that they won't match, which discourages the Wolves from trying ... and on the other hand, there probably is a number the Blazers will not match which might leave Minny holding one very expensive bag -- Kahn might look back and say "Yay, I won! ... right?"

Either way, I expect Nic will be back in a Blazers uniform at a much more reasonable number (or will accept his QO if he really does want out) and the Blazers will be in OK shape in contract terms, or Minny is about to throw a near max level guy at a player who won't be able to justify it and that's eventually going to bite them in the ass.

Win-win.

I sense that 13m/a year is our breaking point - the thing is, I think Minny's breaking point is about 12-12.5 if they are REALLY juiced on Batum. Hence, why I believe this meeting was about Batum trying to ask the Blazers to sign and trade him, rather than keeping him - as Minny's knows there only hope is for a S&T.

Jason Quick: Had a good off-the-record talk with @Nicolas Batum in downtown Portland on Thursday. He leaves for France on Friday. http://t.co/qpq8MyYj

Nic was one the phone with his agent when I took that photo. Couldn't understand a word; it was all in French

I think I'm safe in saying this: Report of @nicolas88batum saying he never wanted to play for Portland again was inaccurate

Still guessing that Batum wants to leave Ptd, but glad to read this.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

If they pay Batum more than $10 mil, I will LMAO. He is a good player, but come on. He is not a great defender as claimed by some, he is a weak ballhandler that requires assists to generate offense, he's a solid 3pt shooter, basically a slightly above average starter at SF. Good glue guy, but maybe the third or fourth (probably fourth) best player on a championship team. He just isn't that consistent in any facet of his game.

For 11-12 mil, I let him walk and don't cry about it for a second... and he's one of my favorite guys on the current roster. The new cap situation is restrictive enough that it just isn't worth going that high for a Batum level player.

Too bad you didn't take French in college, Jason. You'd have a scoop to rival your prior masterpiece, the peeking through the blinds story.

I think its entirely possible if we dont get hibbert that batum plays for the qo and becomes unrestricted next year

I'd trade him during the season if that's the case.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

can't without his consent.

out of nowhere

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

At least now we know what we are dealing with

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Somebody find out who all the other 11M players are..........

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Pretty sure we'll match that.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Well, the game of chicken just got really interesting. I'm still of the opinion the Blazers match if they get Hibbert and take a pass if they don't.

thats all it means really. He wanted X, he signed for X, thats what he'll get. Either in Portland or Minnesota.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Gallinari signed for 4/42

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

At roughly $11m/per I think you match easily.

Going into the summer I thought that was his ceiling.

Fuck you, Kahn!

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

It's more than Gallinari and less than Deng/Iggy

Dwight Jaynes ‏@dwightjaynes
Folks, if he wanted to be here, he'd have come to an agreement with the Trail Blazers. It's that simple.>>>>>>

Did you expect Jaynes to say anything different?

Lol at this line by Jaynes

The Blazers were letting him set his market. Why pay him more if no one was going to give him more? Why bid against themselves?

They probably told Batum get an offer you like and we'll match it.

This is my opinion, too. If we don't get Hibbert, then we will probably struggle to get into the playoffs even with Batum. So we might as well go young and maybe get a good draft pick again next year, while saving some cap flexibility for the future.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

If he doesn't have a hardball offer to call the Blazers' bluff, the Blazers would lowball him. To get full value, he had to get that offer.

No big deal, IMO. In fact, I'm convinced he visited Minne first and Minne only because that's the team that would likely offer him the most.

That being said, I thought Minne wouldn't have the cap space after agreeing to terms with B-Roy?
