Minny reportedly to offer batum 4/$45m. Blazers almost certainly match. Fair value for nic. #ripcity #blazers

slam dunk, and well worth it

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

can live with it. will be positive pressure for Batum.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

I really don't think Batum is worth this kind of money, but if we do somehow get Hibbert we'll be over the cap anyway. The only alternative, in my mind, would be to do a sign-and-trade. Or we could throw more money at him and hopefully get him to wait until after Hibbert is sign-sealed-and delivered.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Not enough info yet.

At 4/45, I'm not going to scream if we match. It seems a bit high, but with GMs going cray cray (to coin a phrase) and doing things like offering Crash 4/40 then I think it's below market value.

BUT, if MIN would give up D. Williams and a future pick or two then it's worth seeing if our 8-9M left over after Hibbert could get us Asik or Ilyasova. I'd need to know what Olshey's heard about their value, willingness to sign and ability of team to match...but I think I'd rather have D.Williams and Ilyasova or Asik than Batum and a shot at Freeland. Chauncey for our "Room" provision (~2.75M, iirc) gives us a stable of bigs, some young wings, Lillard/Mr. Big Shot at PG and T.J. Houshman.....Houshmayday...Houshmenable.....

CHAMPIONSHIP!

Lillard/Billups/Nolan
Wes/EWill/Barton
D.Williams/Claver
LMA/Ilyasova? or Asik?
Hibbert/Leonard/Thomas + MIN's future first?

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Another option is if IND matches, we tell Mr. Ndaiye that we're going to match unless he gets on the phone and swindles MIN for us. Williams/Darko/1sts or the like.

If we can do that, and then work with HOU to do LMA for Scola+T.Jones or White and a future 1st...we effectively trade LMA and Batum for Scola, Williams, T.Jones, Darko and 2-3 first rounders coming up and still have bunches of cap space.

Lillard/Nolan
Wes/Ewill/Barton
D.Williams/Claver
Scola/T.Jones or R.White
Leonard/Thomas

+ 2-3 firsts and 16M or so in cap space. SUCKFEST! Lotto, BABEEEE! But I'd watch.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

But he cannot sign an offer sheet until July 11. So it's staying awake until at least then.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

just to put this to bed

THE BLAZERS CAN NOT DO A SIGN AND TRADE WITH BATUM AFTER HE SIGNS AN OFFER SHEET

per larry coons comprehensive faq

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q43

Yes, and?

This is how this kinda stuff goes:

Batum gets the dog and pony show from Minny.

For some stupid-ass reason, Nik gets the bright idea that the T-Pups and absurdly cold Minny is where he wants to be.

This info gets back to the Blazers. They ring up Nik's agent and say, "hey, yo, so Nik is outta here?",

Agent: Yeah, I told you fools. I was gonna fuck you up real good cause I don't like your smell.

Blazers: Uh, whatever, we have never met, but regardless, does Nik not want 5 guaranteed years, because that is what we are offering.

Agent: Go to hell

Blazers: Ok, well we can still get Nik 5 guaranteed years by working out a sign-and-trade with Minny. We are more than willing to see if we can do something.

Agent: Go to hell

Blazers: We will certainly be sending a certified letter direct to Nik Batum and a copy to the league office so that everyone is fully informed of what is going on here.

Agent: That won't be needed, I am going to call Minny right away and get this started.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Trade away an all-star for an overpaid vet and late first rounders? Horrible idea.

The Batum S&T for Derrick Williams idea would be great, I'd do that, but don't think Minny would bite.

The worst idea I've ever seen on S2.

Congratulations.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

News flash..."overpaid" Scola makes 5M a year less than LMA and only has 2 guaranteed years left, T.Jones is a "late first" in what world? and if you're counting on MIN and HOU making the top tier of the West in the next two or three years then I dont know what to tell you.

Coming from you, Fez, that's a compliment. Maybe we could get Willie Warren to fill out the roster? ;)

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

if we match 4/45 i won't complain. and really really love our team...can't go much higher than that for nic tho. I really do like the idea of derrick williams too, if it's possible to do a S&T...I'm still confused on that.

in other news, water is wet

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

here's how it would work. In the next week or so, someone from POR contacts someone from MIN (with or without Mr. Ndaiye's interference) and says "we're going to match 4/45...you know that, right?" And MIN says "we really would like Nic, and he seems to want to be here...is there anything we can do?" and we say "Sure. Don't give him the 4/45 offer....we'll S&T him to you for 4/49M and we get Williams and a first (or whatever)." They either say Yes or No.

Then you get Nic's bridge-burning idiot of an agent on the phone and let him know what's up.

you can def do a sign and trade, i was just correcting some posters who thought we could like use the possibility of us matching as leverage...once he signs an offer sheet, we can not sign and trade him, in fact we can not trade him to that team for the entire duration of his contract

i.e. we can sign and trade, but not match and trade.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

that's right. I'm sorry if what I wrote made it sound like it was something that could happen after Nic signs. My post 107 is what I was talking about. We CAN use matching as leverage before he even receives the offer sheet.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

and just a reminder, this is basically speculation batum still has teams he is visiting right?

not a done deal by any stretch

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Can't do 5 year S & T with new CBA. Only 4 years. Really there probably won't be many S&T anymore.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Can we trade Nic for Minnesota's coaching staff?

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Minny will try to get him signed and the contract sent off to the league as soon as they possibly can, because they know that we will be trying to do the same thing with Hibbert. If they can get it submitted to the league before Hibbert, we will pretty much be fucked.

You're right. You can get a higher % though....4.5 vs. 3.5 iirc. But it's not going to be much/

Oh really?

Time to learn the new CBA.

Catching up on reading in 4, 3, 2......

time for a Sunday nap.

Do days matter?

Do hours matter?

What is the procedure?

What if Indiana declines to match on Hibbert same day, so they can move on and use their cap space on something else?

I would guess it could be even minutes that matter. I'm not citing anything, but I would guess that it depends on when the offer is formally submitted to the league. If Indy declines to match, that's great for us, but I would think that Minny wouldn't want to give us very much time to consider our options.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

someone with twitter tweet larry coon @LarryCoon and ask him about the timing of these offer sheets, when they say 3 days do they mean 72 hours exactly?

I'd be interested to hear more clarifications on these procedural rules too.

But ultimately are we going to change our mind on matching Batum based off Indy matching? That is mostly the only reason the order would matter.

If we are matching Batum regardless or letting him walk regardless then who cares if the Hibbert offer is 4 hours later.
