I've said it before, but the name needs to be Portland Swifts. Bird names are all the rage in MLB. They would be named after the annual roosting of the Vaux's Swifts at the old Chapman school. Easy and awesome logo. Has a classic Baseball feel. Plus, swift also means quick or fast.

Make it happen.

Honestly, I hate that name. Swifts sounds like a rec league baseball team name, not the name of an MLB team.

I just wish they could hit balls in into the water. Have a boardwalk with the bridge behind it, would be ideal. But I'll take anything they give me!
It almost looks like you could walk along the boardwalk and watch. It would be cool if balls could be hit out there.

Even though it sounds like an arena football team, I kind of like the Steelhead. Especially if they somehow combine the fish theme with the river location.

The lamest and most stereotypical name ever.

Never has a more truer statement been uttered in this forum. I swear to god if the team is named after something to do with Rain, logging or fish...

This is 2018, not 1818 or 1918, lumberjack (or any variation of said name) isn't exactly something that resonates with the people of Portland anymore.

The Portland 90's.

Then they could use the theme from Portlandia ...

But the Portland Chokers would be such a good name.

The names that were in the list supplied by the Oregonian (I believe) were some of the lamest suggestions ever. They were obviously done by someone who either A: thinks they're funny (and they're not) or B: not actually from here and just went with stupid stereotypes to be funny.

Mavericks doesn't make any sense anymore. Especially since pro sports teams tend to not share names anymore. Outside of Rangers, Giants, Cardinals, Panthers, Kings and Jets, there aren't duplicate names in pro sports.

And in the case of the Giants and Cardinals, they were in the same cities at one time. And of the list, only 2 of them are relatively recent teams/expansions.

Just do the Green Sox.

Portland is Green. It fits into the history and nostalgia of baseball. Yes, there are two other sock colors.... oh well.

I hope whatever the name/logo/colors are, they don't base it on an outdated stereotype of Portland, or make it a reference to something that will be horribly dated in 5 years (see: Mighty Ducks in reference to a movie and the original Toronto Dinosaurs uniforms/color combo).
