How many in here like the P that is being used already? The old tradition Detroit look.
I think the colors should be green and yellow!

Reality check!
If Portland is getting a MLB franchise and the Stadium is along front avenue an at old shipping terminals that happens to be in a busy shipping harbor, wouldn't it makes since to0 call them The Portland Pilots!
Besides they will be directly across from UP.

no. needs a refresh,

I absolutely abhor baseball, and haven't lived in PDX in over a decade now. But the stadium stuff is drawing me in.

Another bird name, since you know I love birds, is The Portland Meadowlarks, since the Western Meadowlark is our state bird.
Well, since some think this whole idea is nothing but a Lark....sounds appropriate.

This thread went from conversation about if the team would ever come here to discussing names! I love it!

To be honest it's not a done deal yet. I still don't believe it will happen, but it would be nice. I would prefer Hops to be the name if the Hillsboro team ends up leaving.

I still don't think it's happening.

I tend to agree. I am old enough to remember my dad going ape shit over the shortsightedness of not building a football stadium at Jantzen Beach back in the day to get an NFL team when it was there for the taking. Even though this a little different as it is almost all private money.....I still see an "Occupy Terminal 2" situation in the future when the wack jobs in Portland start demanding that the private money go to "other things" instead.

Just curious, what do you think will be the thing that prevents it from happening?
Not in any specific order

1. No guarantee of a team
2. Public funds passing?
3. Transportation funding passing?
4. Mariners own TV rights in a lot of the region. They could block this

The state raptor is the Osprey as of the closing of the 2017 legislative session. Oregon Osprey. That's my vote for the team. Be inclusive, get the entire state behind the team.

I hope whatever the name/logo/colors are, they don't base it on an outdated stereotype of Portland, or make it a reference to something that will be horribly dated in 5 years (see: Mighty Ducks in reference to a movie and the original Toronto Dinosaurs uniforms/color combo).
Despite my absolute LOATHING for the game of baseball, I am HIGHLY interested in the naming/branding. And I fully agree with your post.
With baseball being such an old/antiquated game I wouldn't mind something that would fit with the game's early days - something like Portland Roses. Perhaps it's a bit too on the nose, but it sounds like a team that would have been around in the early 1900s and I think some really nice classic looking uniforms/branding could be done with a name like that. But regardless of what direction they go, I just really hope they steer aware from the "ferocious animal" cliche.

Portland Saints, Portland Blue Birds, Portland Bearcats, Portland Sluggers, Portland Perfeecto's, Portland Flyers.

I’m the same way. Baseball is extremely boring to me. I’d rather watch soccer honestly. Atleast there’s constant movement and ankle breaking moves.

To me what excites me is the stadium and surrounding development

The best marke

Roses...wow I'm not sure that would go over well in Stump Town. Its got to be 110% ferocious or manly. PDX has to repair the perception this town has earned over he last few years.
