The Portland Pints!

It really is too bad the Hillsboro team took the name of Hops. It would be a fantastic MLB name for a Portland team. Almost too good.

Pretty sure that (a) the Hops would be leaving town if MLB came in, and (b) an MLB team could afford to buy the name from the Hops.

Since Portland ends in a hard 'd', something that starts with a vowel might be good. I liked the sound of Portland Expos when they tried to make that happen.

Or a P. Like Portland Petards

I think it's going to be hard to name the team. I hate to say it but I fear the worst.

Well, I vote for Portland Hops then.

That is why I want an expansion team. If done right they could follow an Astros/Royals type blueprint and just focus on developing young players for a few years and then hopefully pop a couple years before all those players need new contracts.
Yep

I think that if a group of people are coming together and buy land (without tax payer money), build a stadium, etc, (without tax payer money), they're probably not a bunch of small town chumps barely scraping the barrel to make a profit.

The day of blaming market size for the reason a team is successful or not is over. Teams that are run poorly are the ones who are don't win. Big markets doesn't guarantee anything (see: Mets, Padres, Oakland, Seattle, Detroit, Miami, etc).

It's like the NFL where teams are making money hand over fist, but the economics for baseball are different today than they were 20 years ago.
MLB teams pay 31% of their revenue into a profit sharing fund. Is Portland going to earn what the Yankees do with the YES network? No.

There is a huge imbalance.

Another bird name, since you know I love birds, is The Portland Meadowlarks, since the Western Meadowlark is our state bird.
