The team has to stick to names that aren't too close to another teams name, or of a similar concept.

I'm not sure the Blue Jays would totally be OK with Blue Birds, and I bet it would mocked by everyone in the sports world due to the fact it's a bad name and super close to another teams names.

It'd be like saying they should the Portland Pilots (Mariners), or Portland Americans (Yankees or Canadiens), or Portland Sparrows (actually, I kind of like that name).

Their #1 goal should not to have a gimmicky name. I realize that when the Blazers team name was announced it wasn't super popular, but at least there wasn't any other team in the major sports that had that name prior to them.

Jack Sparrow could throw out the first pitch. Or be our mascot.

I'm sure the Pirates wouldn't mind.

Too bad we couldn't get the Pirates to come here. Portland Pirates would rock.

Bro, remember when they announced the Blazers name, this place went CRAZY!!!!!

It took that long for the message to travel that the Blazers were named? Did Doc Brown deliver it to here? lol

Honestly, if I had been alive when they named the Blazers, I would have thought the name was pretty lame.

I can’t wait to give up the mariners. That sounds bad but we all know the past 15 years have been rough.

Also, Fox 12 plus better buy rights to show the games at least 1 or 2 a week. I know it’s not that easy, but hopefully something gets worked out to maximize the audience and build a fan base

Trailblazers was such a great name that Chevrolet copied Portland and used it for their midsize SUV.

How do you feel about The Portland Platypi?( I don't think the other pronunciation would be considered for obvious reasons. Juvenile reasons.)

I think of a grade school soccer team.

I say they should go with the Portland Wolverines.

And have Hugh Jackman be their mascot.

That it did. I found one of the posts.

I don't know if I like this name. I wish they had gone with the suggestion I came up with, the Portland Peccadilloes.

What are we supposed to call them? The Portland Trails? The Portland Blazers? Or some variation on said names? the Trailers? The Blazes? The Zers?

I fail to see how any of those names won't get ridiculed, especially the last one, by people in other cities.

I do understand why they went with the name though. It does pay homage to the Oregon Trail, and I like that. By the by, wouldn't that make for a cool board game? The jist of it being that you are simulating the process of crossing over the Oregon Trail, and you have to suffer through the difficulties of the march across the Oregon Trail. Honestly, though, I don't really know how I feel about it. Do we really need another professional sports team in the Portland area? We already have the Buckaroos, and let us be serious here for a minute. This city is a hockey town. I will personally guarantee you that the National Basketball Association will not last here. If the city was going to get a professional basketball team, it should have been with the American Basketball Association!

I with Harold Glickman had went with that league instead.

I am excited about the prospect of more job opportunities for me. I am a free lance landscaper, and the National Basketball Association will bring jobs for yours truly.

As always, I am grateful for the group of gentlemen that we have among us here. You guys are all people I rely on for my sports knowledge, because as I'm sure you already know, I am very much lacking in that department.
