At least with Golden State, it's an effort to brand the team as representing more than just the Bay Area; Rose City is still just Portland. Yeah, it'd be unique, but aside from that...why? I mean, we could accomplish the same thing by being the "Willamette Valley Wolves" or something like that, and that would even be inclusive of Salem and Eugene.

Unique--yes, I acknowledged that.
Prettier--Umm, OK, I guess. Wanting your sports team name to be "pretty" is a matter of personal preference, I guess. Not a benefit for me.
Rolls off the tongue--I'm still waiting for the team name that would couple with "Rose City" that sounds better than "Portland Pioneers" (my fave so far). Haven't heard one yet (Not personally a fan of "Rose City Reign").

I think it makes an otherwise lame name more unique and cool. They could incorporate roses into the home run area and logos and things like that.

Portland Mavericks sound better as Rose City Mavericks, in my opinion.To your point we could be the Beaver State Mavericks, lmao. That would incorporate the past history of the Mavericks and Beavers, ha ha.

OK--this one I agree with. I've not been a fan of "Mavericks" all along, but I could probably get down with "Rose City Mavericks".

You've won me over, tentatively.
 
I still like Not Happenings for a name. Cuz it's not happening.

Yuck on Mavericks only because I don't want to share a name with another pro sports team

That's the one downside to that name, I agree. I understand the whole "connecting with history" aspect of it, but I agree with you that I would prefer a name that doesn't exist in US major league sports. However it's not a total deal-breaker for me.
 
We definitely should NOT take a name that another franchise has, regardless of the sport.

I agree, I was just using it as an example for how a generic name like Mavericks can sound more unique. My earlier point is that the Oakland Warriors would've been a very bland name but Golden State Warriors makes it sound original.

Reach deeper into history - Portland Webfoots! Ain't nobody in pro sports with that name!
And given the placement of the proposed park, we could also reach into our history and name it Vaughn Street Park (or just Vaughn Park since it won't be directly on Vaughn St.).
 
I would prefer Portland or Oregon over Rose City. Rose City sounds like some bowling team name ora women's stitch and bitch group.
