Ive come around to where Id like to see a Baseball team in portland, though Im not a baseball fan. Im not sure how I feel about this diamond project group though. Something feels sketchy about them to me, but hopefully it works out. I think Portland would be a good fanbase!

It will make traffic even worse when 81 games are played at home. Personally, I don't give a damn. I don't live or work in Portland anymore.

However, I will go to a few games if the prices are reasonable.

Traffic wont really do much for me as Im barely ever actually in Portland city limits anyways. I just think their are people who would really love to have a team and I hope they get it, Portlands big enough to support it, and I would probably go once in a while as a social thing.

Yeah because those 41 Blazer games make it so bad also. We are talking about summer evenings in Northwest Portland. Not sure that is a big issue? If the game starts at 6 or 7 the people going to the game are traveling the opposite direction of rush hour. Might even make rush hour easier if a bunch go to the game instead of driving home at 5 o'clock and stop to eat beforehand. Uh oh? Now we are talking about stimulating the local economy too?

LOL! I've read some delusional posts in this here forum, but this as got to take the cake. A pro sports team is going to improve traffic. Yeah, sure.
Theory behind it is it forces infrastructure to improve. It also has 20K people not leaving town on a week day.

Your probably biased but do you think they can finish higher than the Phillies?
Sure they can, but I think it's going to be a tight race all year between those two and the Nats. For ATL/PHI, I think it's going to come down to pitching for both.

Braves #1 starter is still rehabbing his elbow, and they've presently got rookies (albeit highly-touted ones) at #2 and #3 in their rotation. If the vets pitch the way they have over their careers, they're going to have to score 5+ rpg to win, and that's not something you can rely on, even with Acuna, Freeman, Donaldson, et al.

The Phillies have a lot of firepower, no doubt, but will they gel? Which Harper will they get: the MVP candidate from 2015/2017, or the inconsistent, disappointing version from 2016/2018? Same thing can be asked about McCutcheon; he's several years removed from his MVP caliber seasons. If they hit the high end of expectations, sure, they'll win the division easily. But I don't think it's a slam dunk that their offense will be as impressive as people are projecting, and I think they'll be a lot more dependent on Nola/Arrieta than on their hitting.

I'm not sold on the Phillies either but they have a pretty solid lineup even if Harper and McCutcheon struggle. Should be a fun race to watch.

Kj, Moda seats how many? Baseball typically seats how many?

With that said, baseball plays day games all the time, so the spread out will be not as bad as all evening games.

I can’t wait for opening day in PDX! I’ll def be there live

Until then go mariners! Thanks for blowing the team up after a decent 89 win season

Moda Center is just under 20,000

I think the Portland Group wants the stadium to hold between 30,000 and 35,000. I don't want to speak for KJ but I think part of his opinion is that if that area is developed for a stadium several of the roads and highways leading to there will also get upgraded. It would have to be since right now there is no way that area could support that much traffic.

Well, uh...not a good start for my Bravos...

Thats a small stadium. Correct me if im wrong, but I thought most baseball stadiums were in the 35-50 thousand area? Safeco is like 44 isnt it?

I think the issue with the diamond project vs rfthe Moda is the Moda is central. People leaving and going norht, south, east and west.

Where the proposed site is for the diamond project, EVERYONE will be heading east ( or west to the St. Johns Bridge)

But no one can go north or south really because of the hills and the water. highway 30 and Lombard will be a complete mess every game as I see it.

They want a more intimate setting and almost every baseball stadium that is huge ends up being more of a problem. The thinking is to keep the tickets as a hot item and to always have demand for it. Also, just about every seat would be good in a 30,000 stadium.

I can wait because I still say there is no way it happens.

Like Apple and their planned shortages with iPhones.

You missed my sarcasm in the beginning
Totally agree. I don’t see a problem with traffic unless they are in the post season and if they are who cares?
