Serious question:
Can anybody name an available center they would actually be *excited* about getting? By consensus, Gasol is the best of the bunch and even he has holes in his game.
Why does Monroe want out of Detroit? Maybe because it requires living in Detroit...I think Olshey is trying to build the best bench in the league. If Monroe takes Kaman's spot, he will build leads like crazy against 2nd units. Lamarcus and Plumlee start, Monroe and Leonard come off the bench..what team can deal with that? He's young, Remember Lamarcus at 25?
It's one person doing this bro. Don't group all of usSome of you dudes just need something to complain about. You bitch about us needing to get younger, guard a pick and roll and needing a low post offensive force. Then when we are rumoredto be meeting someone who does just that, more complaints happen about something else. It's like nobody can ever win

Iguodala got a ring coming off the bench, even if he does start you've got really good depth in the frontcourt.Monroe isn't signing a max deal to take kamans spot. He would start
Lol ok mags. If it isn't one guy, it's another. I.e. blaze when we drafted lillardIt's one person doing this bro. Don't group all of us

Steve Kerr was a genius bring an allstar off the bench..Monroe may very well start. I'm not setting the roster. Whether he starts or not, he'll get big minutes..I'd want his offense when Lamarcus was resting early in games. You're basically looking at Meyers, LA, Monroe and Plumlee..shuffle these four guys any which way according to matchups and you've got a hell of a teamSay what?!?!?! Dude Monroe will start

I don't remember seeing almost every team in the league want to sign JJ Hickson to a max deal..these guys know a bit about the game you knowHere's the thing:
Either LA is staying or he's going.
If he's staying (or if we want to convince him to stay) we want to sign players who will work well with him. A big defensive-minded center would be that. Ideally Marc Gasol, of course, but certainly Tyson Chandler or DeAndre Drummond. Not Greg Monroe.
If LA's going, then we can't afford to tie up our money in less-than-stellar players. Greg Monroe is no replacement for LA, especially if he can't play PF, because then we'd have a logjam at C and no PF, and we've spent all our money. (The idea of Monroe and Leonard playing together only sounds good if you're just thinking of O. It would be horrifying on D.)
So Monroe is far from the best choice whether Aldridge is staying OR going. It just smacks of desperation - just like Kaman did, only more expensive and at a more pivotal point in our development.
People seem to think Monroe is a good player because he puts up good points and rebound numbers. So did JJ Hickson.

Well said DracoThe problem is Neil isn't running a fantasy team where he can just pick whatever the NBA's best centers are out there. Of course we'd love to have DeAndre Jordan or Andre Drummond. We'd love to have Anthony Davis as well. Those guys just aren't available. Your comparing Monroe to a handful of the best centers in the game and showing he falls short. Well no shit. The centers we could actually sign would be more like Brandon Wright or Kosta Koufous. Do you want to pay $10 million a year for one of them? Sure they are fine backups but they don't have the upside to their game that Monroe has.
Thibs probably wants to be a hc. But, I'd hope Paul Allen would be willing to open hiswallet and pay thibs big money as dcBeyond the roster changes, I want Thibbs as our defensive coordinator starting tomorrow, that's his natural skill and Stotts and Thibbs together would rock the league.
I'm convinced that alone brings a championship..coaching is also a team sport and he's done it for team USA with pretty good success. Nate is a defensive coordinator for Indy, Kanales in Dallas. Alvin Gentry did it for the Warriors..it's a good place to spend some money and see quick results.Thibs probably wants to be a hc. ISO ball is the same as ISO fandom..doesn't work. Defense is a complete team skill. Each player is virtually one appendage of a body and they all work together or it doesn't work at all. Spurs figured that out ages ago. It's how a team plays defense as a unit, not how an individual beat his assignment one on one.
Actually he failed at it. He's not a diplomat and can't bridge the roster front office gap. He's a defensive coordinator..won a ring in Boston doing that for Rivers and didn't get a ring in Chicago. He's a specialist without communication skills beyond coaching. He's away above of being an assistant at this point, Im thinking.
