I still think Happy Trails.... in '69 is them at their peak. At least guitar playing. Ken Kesey said they were a great bunch of guys but their egos took over.

One of my favorite bands as Blackmore and Lord (along with the rest of the group) were amazing musicians.

You ever heard Rainbow Munich Live in '77.... fucking destroys Deep Purple. Blackmore was right to leave.

That happened to a number of groups coming out of the Bay during that time period.

Yes, as I followed Rainbow as well, but Deep Purple Mk II is still better in my book. Even the changeover from Glover to Hughes and Gillan to Coverdale was damn good.

My favorite Deep Purple album is actually Burn which has Hughes and Coverdale. I like the soul influences on that album. Mistreated.... that song kicks fucking ass! But the reason I prefer Rainbow is because of Dio and Powell. They are a little bit closer to metal. Which is my favorite music.

Yeah, I'm more rock than metal along with some good blues as well. Have you heard the new singer for Rainbow? A spanish guy that has some lungs. This is him singing my favorite Rainbow song.

New Chris Cornell, with an album and boxset to be released November 16th.

I think your thinking of Quarterflash.
Yep, I am.

Too much whiskey straight out of the bottle over years and years will do that to you. Let this be a lesson, young man.

...fwiw, I think the song was originally going to be called "In the Garden of Eden".

Yes, that's what made the title confusing at the time.

...yes, but "Anna"?....sorry Lanny but that gave me a chuckle.

...but I'm guilty of "misheard lyrics/titles too...I remember when Hendrix' "Purple Haze" came out, there was a part of the song that I thought said, "Excuse me while I kiss this guy". ..... I eventually discovered that I was woefully wrong.

Iron Butterfly

In-A- Godda-Da-Vida
There's a great drum solo that starts at the 6:22 mark and lasts a little over 4 minutes.
I dare you to listen to this one with a fire in the fireplace, the lights out and high on weed, it'll blow your mind.

Did you ever watch the movie Manhunter with William Petersen? It was a prequel to Silence of the Lambs as well as an earlier story based on the same movie called Red Dragon starring Edward Norton in the same role as William Petersen. In the movie Manhunter, In a godda da vida was in the movie as the song when they finally catch the perp. Perfect song for the scene.

It's been so many years that I couldn't remember the exact title and I knew Google would direct me to the right path. I then paid attention to the song and not the title. I figured the song was the important part.

lol. yep. The guy that wrote the song got so drunk when he was reciting the llyrics to the drummer he slurred the title and it came out as In a gadda da vida and it stuck as the name.

...yeah, I remember that song vividly...I had become really hooked on music and I had listened that song so many times and trying hard to replicate that drum solo...lol...total fail.
...hell, I even remember the very first record I ever bought with my own money, it was a 45 rpm, "I Get Around" by the Beach boys...flip side was "Don't Worry Baby". Then of course, The Beatles landed shortly afterwards and everything changed.

Haven't heard that one before. I think it's more likely that he was stoned on weed rather than drunk.

^^^ the 60's were on one hand, a great time to be alive but on the other hand, a very scary time to be alive.

Growing up in the 60's was great as we actually played games outside rather than sitting in from of the TV playing video games. The memories of going down to the park to play football in the fall as well as basketball to many hours of playing wiffle ball in my friends driveway. It was a much simpler life where a parent can feel at ease sending their kids to the park to play without supervision.

I played a lot of wiffle ball in my driveway. Also, played a lot of football up and down the street. I remember quarterbacking and telling my receiver to go to one parked car on the side of the street or another car parked on the same side of the street or another car on the other side of the street.

We had a mean guy who told us not to lose a ball on his property or he would keep it. He also would raise hell with us whenever he drove home from work and it took us 2 or 3 seconds to get out of his way. "Hey, you kids, get off my lawn!" You know the type. I've never objected to kids playing in my driveway or stealing apples off my apple tree. I've got a lot of games I played that intruded on neighbors to make up for and a lot of fruit I stole from neighbors' trees to make up for. Besides, I love the sound of kids playing. That's a big reason why I love living across the street from a high school that has three athletic fields abutting my street and directly across from me. They've got two others on the other side of the school plus 6 tennis courts and a building housing their swimming pool. Lake Oswego also has a public golf course two blocks from my house that the HS kids play and practice at. HomerLovesKoolade has a son that golfs there and the dad and son are both excellent golfers. His son has won a ton of awards. Good kid, I wish I were his uncle.

...needless to say I'm a Yankees fan but pro baseball and football are no longer the same games I grew up loving as a kid...but if y'all want a real treat, the next time you drive by a ball field and there's some little leaguers out there playing, just for shits and giggles, take the time to stop and watch them for a few minutes. It will make you feel like a kid again.
