Actually I think both of our math was wrong, fwiw. It was just under 46% according to this chart. We had 36% chance to get better pick. Not 70.
Here’s a wild thought. Now that the Blazers failed to move up, getting Grant is the way to appease Dame because he wants to play with him.
Two possible scenarios? If we get lucky and get Murray at 7 why would we trade for Grant?
It would be nice to have a forward as our #2 scorer. Here’s a wild thought.
Maybe Dame, Chauncey, Cronin and all the others working with the team know a thing or two also?
Maybe they see Jerami Grant as being misused and they feel he would be a much better fit playing with Dame and for Billups?
Maybe he comes here and excels dramatically?
Maybe all this talk on this board is just a bunch of fans that use stats to make their assumptions?
Maybe he is exactly what this team needs?
I had that thought as well but assumed it might have some substance. I have read it and heard the possibility on media platforms other than S2.I feel like I’m pretty connected to what’s going on but I may have taken a nap or something and missed why Grant is such a done deal. A couple media rumors? Damian likes him? What did I miss?
Management that is out of touch with how close the roster is to contend. Dame and Grant are friends. GM that settles for whatever other teams ask. No other great options to add starting talent since we already traded out 3 starters for Didi and Bledsoe. Current team has no use for him or desire to pay super max.I feel like I’m pretty connected to what’s going on but I may have taken a nap or something and missed why Grant is such a done deal. A couple media rumors? Damian likes him? What did I miss?
HYPOTHETICALLYGetting the #1 pick might have been a way to only be a few trades and free agent signings from contending with Dame.
Now, it's even more of a pipe dream. Probably time to start thinking about Dame trades that make long term sense.
HYPOTHETICALLY
If Portland can trade 7 for Wood and 15
and land Grant for 15 and change
Then use mid level or whatever on a shooter
Dame
Ant
Grant
Wood
Nurk
is a pretty damn good starting lineup
Hart
Nas
FA
Brown
Watford
not a bad bench
Wood is totally checked out when he's not being fed the ball. He was a big reason they were awful early in the NBA season when he was featured heavily.
I figure it's possible Cronin did make an offer for Grant at the trade deadline that was refused. Somehow that's been translated to Cronin being fixated on Grant.I feel like I’m pretty connected to what’s going on but I may have taken a nap or something and missed why Grant is such a done deal. I'm just very willing to sell on our future to give Dame an actual chance because for me it's either actually build a contender around Dame or trade Dame for a pick and some young players and build around that and Ant. I don't want any halfass bullshit like Dame, Ant, Hart, Grant, Nurk, Nas, Justise, some bargain basement free agent and whoever does the best out of our young guys. That is some play in fodder that would have no chance of making it past the second round if they could ever even get there.wait 3 firsts for grant….? I think you’re going to be happy when the trade happens
Maybe he did. It’s just crazy how locked in people get on a guy because of some rumors. I feel like we’ve done this before with players….I figure it's possible Cronin did make an offer for Grant at the trade deadline that was refused. Somehow that's been translated to Cronin being fixated on Grant.
Then brace yourselfI'm just very willing to sell on our future to give Dame an actual chance because for me it's either actually build a contender around Dame or trade Dame for a pick and some young players and build around that and Ant. Unlike guards like Dame and CJ who play on one end of the court and only really on the perimeter, forwards like Grant and Murray are the kinds of guys you want duplicated on your team. Both have length and high level athleticism, both can put the ball on the floor, shoot, finish at the hoop and make the right pass and both defend on the perimeter and in the post. So although I don't see either doing it at an all star level next year, I think both could be a notch below that and that would be a big step up from any forward tandum we've had since Nic and LaMarcus. If we get lucky and get Murray at 7 why would we trade for Grant?
Please don't be right about that. I just can't see Dame wanting to stick around for a team just as midling as the one that had his boy CJ on it... just without CJ on it. I think if he doesn't see real improvements after what we just went through as a team last season, he'll start to finally want to see if the grass really is greener. That look on his face at the lotto today wasn't one from a guy who is enthusiastic about what's going on around him. I mean none of us are feeling over the moon about today or the Pels pick situation but this is Dame's life and he was willing to give up on the dream of winning with his friend and teammate he'd had the longest probably in his whole life but I think he was only willing to if it meant winning with other teammates, not if it meant doing the same shit with other teammates. Then brace yourself
I think Duren and Grant is realistic.
Dame/BWill
Ant/Hart/Keon
Nas/Winslow
Grant/Watford/GB3
Nurk/Duren
A couple 2nd rounder to fill out the
bench.
If that^ happens are you mad? Do you expect more than the 5-6 seed?
If that happens I'm confused. You don't tank to draft a guy who sits. If we did pick Duren I would hope that we would cash in Nurk with a sign and trade. I also don't think Nas starts over Hart unless somehow he's made another big leap forward but this time as a shooter, even though his shoulder has been messed up. I get why you would put Nas as the starter though, because Hart is a known commodity and what we know is he's the guy you want coming off the bench or the fifth starter with at least a couple all stars in that starting lineup. So hoping Nas breaks out a lot more and stays healthy keeps things exciting but I don't know if it's realistic.I think Duren and Grant is realistic.

And if all else fails we still have a small/big to build around in Simons and Duren.I posted that a few weeks ago. That would solve two holes. A backup center and a starting PF. We would get real long real quick.
I still see no reason why Detroit would not take a future 1st for Grant. I like Jerami but for Detroit to hold out for a lottery pick is too much. No one else will give that to them without making them take back salary.
I think the potential of the 18 year old Duren at 20 years old is much greater than getting a Griffin or any other player at 7 that would start. No one we draft at 7 is gonna supplant a guard so we are hoping a starting Forward drops. I don’t think any of the big 4 forwards will drop so it’s basically a Griffin or Mathurin imo. Will they make a bigger impact year 1 probably, but I think Duren will be the better prospect after that.If that happens I'm confused. You don't tank to draft a guy who sits. If we did pick Duren I would hope that we would cash in Nurk with a sign and trade. I'll tell you what's definitely not realistic, putting that roster up and then mentioning the fifth seed. Do I expect more than the 5th or 6th seed? No I expect much less, I expect that team to struggle to make the playoffs and when looking at the rest of the West maybe that team struggles to make the playins.
