I honestly just looked for some kind of data that would support such a statement. I honestly looked with a open mind. Just nothing about any of the corridors in the Happy Valley area saying they are more dangerous that the worst 42 in the Portland Metro area. There is just nothing I can find to support that. Now as far as living in both Oregon City and West Linn as compared to Happy Valley? They seemed to be quite similar to me. Yes I have lived in all of them for extended periods of time though West Linn was by far the shortest at 3 years. Nope never going back to West Linn unless I get very rich and can move to the mansion area.
My comment has totally been my experience. Thought I made that clear, but I guess not. I've been at red lights and have seen multiple people rear ended stopped at a light on Sunnyside. It is one of the only streets that make me feel uncomfortable due to other drives that I drive through. Not because I want to, but my spouse grew up in the area.

I wonder how many of you actually own a business?

Maybe from a business point of view, especially when your business has been affected by the protests, the homeless and drug addicts, if you will still be signing the same tone.

When you’re working for someone and getting a check regardless of what happens to a work place you might have a different view I guess.

When money is coming out of your own pocket for you and your family due to the things that have been going on in Portland I am 100% sure peeps would be singing a different tone
If somebody harms my business I blame the person who did it.

Not some event in which the organizers are trying to convince people to be peaceful and cause no harm.

Nah. We jacked it up and put it on skates in 98. It's mostly up to the standards set in the 90's. Yes some retro could be done but that building ain't coming down in a 8.0 or lass. Now if we get THE BIG ONE. Anything can come down of course.

Oh well cool then fuck those hippie leftists for ruining innocent businesses.

There is no need for more offices in Portland. Portland needs to stop thinking they can rely in that office space being full.

Convert that space to other uses.

Yes, convert the empty office buildings to apartments or condos. That will help a little, but commercial real estate tenants tend to pay more in taxes than someone renting an apartment to live in. More businesses downtown mean more tax dollars for Multnomah County.
Ideally, you have a nice combination.......people who live and work in the downtown area.

I believe we got on this topic because of how it relates to attracting sports franchises. (i.e, selling luxury suites to businesses in Portland compared to SLC) They don't need Fortune 500 companies, but they do need to reverse the trend of businesses moving out of the area.

I don't get the hate of any part of the metro area.

No one place has the monopoly on cool or uncool.

No need to divide us based on arbitrary boarders.

I love Gresham as much as Beaverton.

Now do I enjoy driving *out* to Beaverton?

God no. But that has nothing to do with the city of people who live there. Highway 26 is horrible to use.

This is the thing my friend (who builds affordable housing) talked about. Converting the buildings triggers the earthquake inspection because of the zoning changes. She can’t buy the buildings because it could cost way too much to convert them because of the earthquake protections.

You will get more businesses if you get more people living there. That will just happen.

Focus should be on getting as much converted to residential as possible and making public transit faster than driving a car in good traffic. And maybe making public transit free.

And doing these things as fast as possible.

This is a valid concern. Worthy of a public money solution, IMO.

Sure, but I don't think that helps with the topic of competing with other cities for additional sports franchises and luxury suites.
Why not? A more vibrant downtown would bring money to businesses. If more people live in Portland more businesses will want to be closer.

Mixed use zoning would be helpful, for sure.

That has absolutely nothing to do with a basketball game. Sorry. This is exactly why the whole movement has lost credibility. Keep the politics out of it and allow everyone the safe place at the game.
Lost credibility with whom? We lost credibility because we want equality? It shouldn't have anything to do with a basketball game unless someone makes it relevant by taking away our one celebration.

How do my rights make you unsafe pray tell?

As someone that lived and grew up in Gresham over 17 years, it’s not what it once was years back IMO.

There’s also a reason why they put a police station in the middle of Gresham many years ago.

Those things wouldn’t have happened in the first place it wasn’t for the protest.

And all you’re gonna do is just blame the person that harms your business? Or actually hold them accountable?

At the end of the day, if you and your family is affected money wise for you and your family over the protests, you would not be so ok with all the protests going on every damn month in Portland

Yes that would be helpful for sure. It would help small businesses, which are needed as well.

But small businesses don't buy luxury suites. The topic was competing with other cities for multiple sports franchises. Portland could use a few more large companies for that. Not saying the city can't currently support both baseball and basketball, because they absolutely can.

But it is very competitive, and there are other cities that might be more attractive. A few questioned how SLC could beat us out, and that is how. True, they don't have Fortune 500 companies, but they do have more medium-sized companies. The city and state are considered to be business-friendly.

There are police stations in the middle of most towns and cities. Courthouses too. Oh, and post offices. And fire stations. Many even have these green spaces called parks.
There was a Fred Myers there that was thriving and doing well.

Then lots of Mexican gangs starting causing trouble, shooting during the day and etc.

then entered the police station, after all of that.

if it wasn’t the uptick in crime and shootings in that area, they would have never added a police station is my point, aka not like it was before

You're talking about Rockwood, close, but that's not Gresham.
