A 2015 first round pick, a 2018 first round pick, and giving up an expiring contract to get Noel for 25 games before paying him a massive number.
Dallas gave up quite a bit.
Chill out, dudes
Sure, if we trade only Festus for him and the don't resign Bogut this summer. Is there a way we can scoop up Bogut without triggering the first luxury tax hit?
No, they gave up Noel for a first and cash savings (Bogut gets them above the floor, saves them roughly $5M, net)Basically, Philly gave up Noel and cash for a 2018 draft pick.
reason Neil likely did not grab him is his RFA status this summer is my guess, we can't afford another 20 mil or so contract to matchBasically, Philly gave up Noel and cash for a 2018 draft pick.
I dunno. Doesn't seem like much of a return to me. Just because Anderson was a first-round pick doesn't mean he's going to really be any good. If being a first-rounder means you're going to be any good, wake me up when Nolan Smith reappears in the NBA.
I get why NO didn't grab him, but I don't consider this a great haul for Philly, either.

If they view Anderson as an asset, perhaps they feel they did. Low minutes, but he is a 15+ PER player so far this season (despite 40% FG, 30% 3P)True. But they could have grabbed a different player with more potential and somehow that could have helped them long-term. They could have acquired an asset, rather than a contract to dump.
Noel would add like $15M to our cap next year and for several years after that. The only way to afford that is if they took Crabbe. They probably didn't want the cap hit. He's also not a perfect fit, since we really need a PF.With the protection on that pic, that really is not very much for Noel. There will be a lot of questions, which Neil won't answer, about if Portland could have offered similar or better to bring in an asset like Noel.

I did miss it, my badHence why I said I understand why NO didn't go after Noel.... I think you missed that part of my post.
But that still doesn't mean that Philly got a good return.
There was a reason a weak team like Orlando soured on Harkless, but we seem to love him here. There's a reason a weak team like Dallas has soured on him....
Mavs aren't done. They will ship off DWill soon.
be interesting to see if Noel could be more effective for Mavs this season and they win more games, if they move ahead of us in the standings I am good with thatThis would not surprise me. I expected them to go into tank mode after the break. Only 27 games left. makes sense to dump your often injured vets.

PHI needs 3-point shooting from their wings to help space the floor for their bigs. So, they went out and got a guy who is a career .288 three point shooter. Yeah, that makes sense.
With Harrison Barnes playing the 4, the starting SF position in DAL was Anderson's for the taking. He couldn't cut it, so DAL has been forced to play Wesley Matthews out of position at the 3.
He wasn't good enough to get significant PT on a crap team in DAL, but PHI thinks he will help them? PHI just took a step backwards. They were a better team with Noel backing up Embiid, and occasionally playing beside him, than they will be with Justin Anderson backing up Ben Simmons. The pick they got will be in a much weaker draft. So, that won't amount to much.
BNM
Yeah what gets overlooked is that Noel would have had to be re-signed next Summer. If Philly were not planning to do that, his value was going to be low. You could say that they would be able to trade him next year with long contract but would they really be able to if this was a max deal, and it likely would? Not many teams would trade pieces for Noel tied to a $100M contract.I think this trade is actually smart for both teams. DAL will now pay Noel max or very close to it. PHI wasn't ready to make that commitment to him (and I don't blame them even though I like the player) so they could have lost him for nothing soon.

Wake me when Philly is relevant. They've clearly established themselves as the clowns of the NBA. I take everything they do with a grain of salt as they literally remain the doormat of the NBA for years.
