I think ownership realizes after Dame's historic 55 pt double OT masterpiece that with his marketing machine...global status....tv commercials...tennis shoes and rap career, movie role and all the razzle dazzle that is Lillard..that it's time for the gazillionaires to stop worrying about paying some luxury tax and getting what you pay for roster-wise in this small market. We have a historical team leader we may never see the likes of again here and a handful of years to give him the best chance to get to the big dance...We've got Paul...now we need to find John George and Ringo... if you fail to build a team with this guy, you blew your chance...you pay Norman Powell now and pay him well...he's George

Look at the Lux tax Nets, Warriors, Bucks & Clippers are paying.....wow

I think Olshey knows his jobs on the line and that CJ is our most tradeable asset. The Lillard/CJ combo has ran its course and it’s not rocket science to see that combination won’t ever win anything
CJ is not our most tradeable asset. He may be close to our LEAST tradeable asset - at least, if you want anything close to equal value in return.

People don't realize how much money the owners of the team have and what they spend it on...we have an extremely wealthy owner.

You'd think FA players (stars players) and agents would know that and try and capitalize.

Here’s the real challenge, do you trade CJ first to show Norm you’re serious about keeping him or do you try to sign him first and trade CJ second?

I think you trade CJ during the draft... it's the best time to make deals. I think we're allowed to talk to Norm between now and then to make sure the right role and coach will keep him here.

Portland has Powell under contract. As far as I know, they are allowed to discuss just about anything with him and his agent

Powell would be an idiot to agree to anything at this point, IMO. He can nod his head and make encouraging noises though

Obviously we disagree.... That's fine.

However, I don't want Norm playing ANY backup PG minutes. I don't even want CJ playing backup PG.... I would LOVE to have a real backup PG on the team for once. Who was the last one -> Tim Frazier?

Also, this last season was could statistically be considered CJ's best season ever. So I don't understand your sentiment about 'recapturing his pre-injury form'. CJ is who he is (and has been for the last 5+ seasons).

Rasta has been pushing really hard for Portland to trade Dame and keep CJ

Oh yeah, I'm just saying that we can work out something tentative with Norm and at least know the ideal situation for keeping Norm.

The darkest timeline. I would stop watching the team.

me too

Dame gone while Olshey and CJ remain...that's yuck to the 7th power

on the bright side, a blazer fan wouldn't have to worry about watching blazer playoff games and the lottery would have meaning again

I haven't been "pushing" for it, I've been pointing out that it's the only thing that makes sense. And so far, nobody's bothered trying to rebut those arguments. (Saying "ew" is not a rebuttal.)

To recap the main points:
1. Dame is at his very peak, both of talent and value. It's downhill from here.
2. CJ is probably at the nadir of his value. His value would improve if he played without Dame
3. If we trade CJ to "make the Blazers better in Dame's window" then we'll almost certainly have to package him with picks.
4. Picks are more valuable to a small-market team that can't sign FAs than to other teams (like the Clippers) that have unloaded them
5. Trying to build a better team around Dame by trading CJ will fail and hamstring us for years.

To be clear, I know no Portland GM has the cajones to trade Dame. But Olshey is also no doubt being made painfully aware of how little he can get for CJ and will not trade CJ either. So. Get ready to run it back with diminishing returns.
