Norm RoCo traded

Ok maybe the line do your research was a little much but all i see is the blazers free up 15m ish when they cut him at the end of season.

Can someone explain to me WHY i am wrong ?
I just did... it's because we could have freed up 12.9M just by letting RoCo walk. The only reason the number is higher than 2.1M is because we took less salary coming back in this trade than we sent out by like 4M.

OK but who says we will extend Nurk -- this is why I said wait and see what else happens before totally losing it,

Like i said -- talent for talent wise this trade is dog crap no way around it but see how the rest of the deadline plays out and the draft THEN let's revisit if this trade was total dog shit or the tip of something more maybe better

ADDON -- I see but then you take Justice contract from that 15 so we free up 11m then so still a decent dump but like I said this could still be a good thing as long as more is coming

I think, tbh, everyone needs to relax and realize this is just a precursor to something else. It’s way way too bad to just be a singular deal and that’s all. This team sucks and needs a total shake up. More to come I’m sure.
I hope so, this is almost as depressing as Oden blowing out his knee, ok maybe not that bad lol. Just hate the thought that we couldn’t get a 1st rounder back for either guy and let alone 3 bench players

Lmao- so just give away assets for nothing? And the guys you mention are not ready for big minutes, they are 3rd stringers at best and we gave up starters to make time for them lmao. Come on this was horrible trade we got zero assets back.
I've always liked Bledsoe.
He's a dogg, and this team needs that attitude.
Also, with Anfernee becoming a starter, where is the scoring from the bench?
I love DSJ but he can't shoot.
Playing the young guys will hopefully increase their trade value going forward.
Sometimes, "assets" come in the form of opportunity, so I disagree the Blazers got nothing back.
This trade wasn't intended to make the Blazers better next week.

A lot of people are forgetting order of operations.
When you have cap you can use your cap room to sign new guys then sign your own free gents back to go over the cap.

nope....all those free agents of the team have cap-hold amounts almost always more than their actually salaries

for instance, Nurkic's salary is 12M this season; in July his cap-hold will be 18M

Except your own free agents are also cap holds, which then reduce if not completely eliminate whatever cap room you might have had.

theres no way this was to get under the tax or that were going into full rebuild

cronin is onto something, there will be other trades for sure, its all part of a bigger picture

Dame ask for a trade yet? Cronin got Pritslapped

Some of you are assuming we do not trade nurk and with this trade it looks like the Blazers have thrown up the white flag and said we are toast time to tank so NO reason to think the Blazers might not try and trade CJ , Nurk and Nance or others to free up money and /or get assets.

At least for tonight's game, we get to keep the 3-guard line-up alive.

It better be. Cause this is fucking stupid.

But since he's a Neil protege and we saw this one move, I have my doubts.

You don't know about cap holds? Ant's is like 12M and Nurks is 18M. So without relinquishing their bird rights, that 30M counts against our ability to sign anyone.

I think almost all of us are assuming that Portland could have received better draft assets, and maybe better talent assets, by trading RoCo and Powell elsewhere

They have to. Anything else is unacceptable. Trade CJ by Thursday. Nurk too.

But now I have no trust we are gonna get commeriserate value so fuck me.

All you'll get is PR speak
I'd just love to hear the spin on this but as many have pointed out, the deadline is like six days away and a lot can happen between now and then that would make it easier to spin this but if this is all that happens there's just no way the media won't kill Joe with questions about why he gave the Clippers such a giant discount on two starting quality players.

I'm just beyond belief that this dude makes THIS deal as his very first one....

Like at least for optics sake, don't you reconsider?

What does our new bright assistant GM that we just signed think of all this?

This is the problem some fans are not realizing - could we have gotten better players and/or assets -- SURE but if the goal was to free up cap space for the future then this deal works even if on paper talent for talent it sucks. Also could you all be right and cronin is a complete idiot -- very well might be but again let's wait and see

I understand why fans are unhappy when I 1st heard about it I was like WTF is this but I am willing to see how this plays out before losing my mind and having a complete meltdown.

live look at joe cronin

You realize Powel was averaging 18 points? Bledsoe may be dog but wasn’t with Powel alone we through in Roco and said we only want two bench players and a 2nd rounder back. If you wanted to make room for other players to get more playing time then trade these guys for expiring and draft picks but don’t just piss away to assets for nothing
I never said I WANTED to make room to play the young guys, (personally, I don't think any of them are any good..)
I said, this forum (sportstwo/blazers) wanted that.
And Powell's stats mean nothing. He did not make the Portland TrailBlazers a better team.
RoCo, at least had his moments and flashes with tipped passes and blocked shots. Winning plays.
So, for me, I guess this is the ol' "Addition By Subtraction"...

That's your opinion.

The fact is they had positive value around the league and we didn't take advantage of that.

It's really simple. Please figure it out.

Apparently they didnt

If he has a specific target that let's say makes about 33M and they want Nurk and Ant for that guy, plus a bunch of money that drops off at the end of this season... then having Bledsoe's money that can drop off and match 18M of that 33M makes more sense than having RoCo's 12.9M. And that can be plugged in with any combo of players. So the only thing that makes sense is that we have a specific trade on the table with another team that needed a different amount of money coming in than we could have put together with players we're willing to give up.

Still though, we should have made the Clippers pay a lot more in draft assets to get that much better.

Both players were at the nadir of their value.

Norm felt like a slight to modest negative asset depending on team to me and Roco is an expiring with a questionable playoff track record + past his prime.

Tax savings, slightly better prospect than Keon who I did like somewhat in the draft and a heavily protected first was a best case return.
