Any interest in a young, big center whose contract is $1.9M this year and $2.9M next year? The Nuggets have two 7'ers and have chosen to go with Jokic over Nurkic. This type of cheap contract for a player who has fallen out of the rotation seems right up Olshey's alley and certainly not a 'needle mover' so that would make it much more likely.

I'd be shocked with Nurkic cost that much. I'd even be surprised if he cost a 1st and Noah.

(I'll say it again) Nurkic doesn't strike me as a Stotts-type player. He's old-school high usage post scoring.

He's an offensive non-entity but was very good on defense until this year. This year, he's been bad on both sides of the ball. His defensive failings may be small sample size/frustration; I'd expect him to be at least solid, if not better than solid, going forward on defense. I'm just not sure he'll ever be worthwhile on offense. You can't play 4-on-5 offensively these days.

I'd trade Vonleh, but that's about it. Definitely no first rounders.

That's a bit harsh. He's scoring the same per 48 as gunner Will the Thrill (and easily more than every Portland rotation player other than Lillard or McCollum), and shooting 53% doing it.

He has ATROCIOUS +/- numbers, though.

Yeah, and his Offensive Rating (his points created per 100 possessions) is also awful. This is also the first year that he has even a passable scoring efficiency (.534 TS%)...but that's still pretty low. His TS% before this season was unplayable.

So, he might be improving. How much he's likely to improve is a scouting question that's beyond me. If you believed in his offensive upside, I could see tossing in one first-round pick. It'd be a risk, but a big payoff if you were right.

Nurkic shows offensive potential. I watch him a lot. He can get to his spots against literally any big man. His stats don't concern me, because he's still young and barely plays enough to get into any sort of rhythm. There's A LOT to work with on both ends with him. He is also a beast on the boards. He was getting the better of Steven Adams there last night.

who ever we get has to address the defensive issues. Our guards always get blasted as the culprits but you go back and look at the box scores the players who often have the biggest games against us are the other 3 positions. Guys like Gallo....but can he play D?

I have been trying to research Nurkic’s game.
The impression I get from fans that know his game (which I do not) is he is a good one-on-one paint defender, but not a good rim protector or shot blocker. He has "some" O game in the paint, and can pass. His game sounds very similar to Plumlee’s.

Also, I believe Denver rates very low at rim protection. Reason, their wings are not good defenders and a lot of players get past them.

In other words, Nurkic does not bring the rim protection and shot blocking skills that we need. Plus he has played under very similar conditions that he would with the Blazers wings.

At this time, Nurkic does not appear to be a good answer, unless we could get a steal of a deal.

Was thinking exactly the same thing. Plums is going to get paid...to the point he may be tough to keep. Nurkic would allow an additional year of cap flexibility.

Not only that, I think the lineup would be better constructed with a post scorer who also can finish on the pick n roll.

I do like Plums, but he's no automatic post bucket and I cringe when I see him try to take it to the hoop from more than a couple feet from the basket.

Nurkic is more traditional C than Pek ever was. Nurkic can post up and block shots.

I'd easily give up a 1st round pick for him if we can swing a bigger trade for Whiteside or Brolo.

Big men regress, and play further from the hoop, every year they play under Tater Totts.

Yes but he was an overall guru, not really specified as the 'big man' coach like Moran and the guy that was Meyer's personal support system before him.

Yea I like this kid I don't know what happening in Denver I would trade for him. Nice touch around the hoop and Reb and block shots. Be great pick and pop he be perfect for us. Move Plum to the 4 and we be solid in the front court.
