Pelicans were missing a bunch of players and have been playing 3rd stringers. A 2 week NOLA mini tank. They finally got McCollum and Ingram back this evening, but ran into that industrial sized buzzsaw Nuggets team.

What do you mean they "finally" got CJ back?

He's missed 6 games all year.

Suffice to say, Lebron likes playing with the Hachi.

We could’ve had him for a bag of Doritos and a pat on the back. Ugh

These are the type of talent upgrades we need on our bench. Can’t be asleep at the wheel, Joe.

Why do you say Kendrick Nunn and 3 second round picks a "Bag of Doritos and a pat on the back?
He's making over $6million this year? What player are the Blazers giving up for him? Blazers have space on the roster but would have to find a way to work it out?

Because Nunn sucks. Watford is an equivalent talent. The Lakers traded them 2nd rounders from up to 6 years down the road.

and all that and they're (checks records) 2 games better.
Oh hold on, you just said they haven't had their best player and their 2nd best player to be honest for most the season.... how would that affect/effect OUR record? Lets not let your fandom of the pinwheel block the common sense factor. You actually got 2 clowns to like this post is baffling.

the issue is, injuries seem to be a major player in Zions career. That has to play a role in deciding things too.

CJ missed a grand total of 2 games in December & January

the Pels were not missing a bunch of players; they were essentially missing two players from their rotation, Zion and Ingram

and it was a hell of a lot more than a 2-week tank. The Pels went 3-14 in January (+Dec 31). The Pels got wildly overrated early in the year because they had an easy schedule, overloaded with weak teams and home games. They had a stretch of 15 games where 12 were at home; and that was part of a stretch of 24 games when 17 were at home. That's why they had a 23-12 record. Since then, their record has balanced out, Zion & Ingram have been hurt, AGAIN, and they have gone from 1st seed & 11 games over .500 to 10th seed & even at .500; and only 1 game better than the struggling Blazers (tiebreaker)

they are a better team, at least on paper, than their losing stretch(es). And if they can get healthy they will likely start winning more games. But, as Nate said, they are built on a very shaky foundation. Their two best players are known injury magnets. They are not anything close to a contender

the thing is, the "Zion is injured" excuse seems to always be in effect. He's played in 114 games and missed 172. That's less than 40% of games. This situation is almost to the level of talking about how good the Blazers were when Oden played.

It seems pretty clear that Zion can't stay healthy playing at the weight he's been playing at. Maybe he can lose 3o-40 pounds, but then he wouldn't have the physical game that makes him nearly un-guardable around the paint

Because Nunn sucks.
Not sure i agree with you there. Had a knee injury last year but has been decent this year on a badly constructed roster. Giving 20 mins a game off the bench.
When he played for the Heat in a much better situation he played well. Could drop 20-25 on any given night. He plays decent defense as well though not great.
At this point he's a decent backup PG. Whatford has never even sniffed those numbers.

Zion is injured = Zion
That is what he brings you. All star level play in 40% of the games.

It was extremely predictable after his injury at Duke. The guy clearly can't stand up against the rigors of the NBA.

Maybe the Pels are getting to be cursed like the Blazers. First, they could not keep AD healthy, and now Zion.

Yet they STILL have a better record than us?

LOL...make up your mind....sure looks like Portland's record is right around your prediction you're so proud of...

...so then, why would it be surprising that the "very stacked", "very talented" Pelicans are a game ahead of the Blazers? And it's not like the Blazers haven't had injuries: Dame has missed 12 games; Nurkic 6 games; Winslow & Little 21 games each; Payton 39 games. The Pels aren't the only team that can retreat behind the injury excuse...

Suns: Booker has missed 23 games; CP3 has missed 21; Ayton has missed 9; Cam Johnson has missed 38; Payne has missed 24; Shamet has missed 22

Clippers: PG13 has missed 17 games; Kawhi has missed 26; Powell has missed 10; Wall has missed 20; Kennard & RoCo have missed 21 each

so, while you and a couple of other posters have morphed from nut-snuggling the Pelicans talent/future to shedding crocodile tears for their injury luck, a lot of us haven't been as impressed with the talent nor as sympathetic about their injuries. Blazer fans know all about injuries

yeah why no stat muse for how many games Zion has missed in his career? oh how times have changed...

I don't' think anyone could keep AD healthy. They just keep drafting super talented and injury prone players.

Yeah, that is why I was comparing them to the Blazers. Those were two #1 picks
