My guess is Cam Payne is a salary cap move. SA is under the cap, they can take his $6.5MM expiring salary, and they get a little bonus for their trouble. Not a back backup PG for them.

it's a cap move for both teams. Phoenix needs to get below the 2nd apron and the Spurs need to stay above the salary floor

If they don’t win a ring before KD is toast that will go down as a terrible terrible trade.
I guess. Only one team wins a year. They definitely are going for it. Maybe nort being able to acquire as much roster depth as they needed would be the real reason. When you roll the dice, you are taking chances obviously.
They weren't going to win it BEFORE the trade, so why not go for it.

I liked him when he was here.
Damn good coach. Good dude! His son is heading to FAU for hoops this fall. Happy for him.
His last season with us, the summer before, he said he left his interview with the Magic assuming he had the new head coaching job…. Changed their minds last minute. quality pick up by the Wiz.
