Yes, we'd still get hard capped but that would become a possibility. Although we'd have to assume the team would be willing to pay the tax because they might not want to in that scenario.

How is Lee going to make us go into more purgatory? His contract expires in 2020 with our other big contracts, and we'll have cap space then. Until then, who cares what were paying? We'll never have cap space until 2020. Lee is a big improvement over Connaughton. You don't take defense into account and if it's not a big name then there's no point to even add them to the roster for nothing.
