Jordan Hamilton has turned into quite the shooter.

He was a Blazer pick that was sent to Denver in that horrid Felton deal.

Lillard The Leader

The bulk of the Blazers' young bench for the 2013-14 season has played major minutes during the NBA Summer League tournament. But even more revealing than the action on the court has been the star who reported to Vegas to take a seat on the sideline.

Want proof that after unanimously winning the Rookie of the Year award that Damian Lillard has changed? Look no further than his actions during the Blazers' two opening games in Summer League.

Lillard has changed — for the better.

"I want to establish myself as a leader," Lillard said, explaining his presence at Summer League.

Lillard sat on the Blazers bench, in the first chair between the coaching staff and his teammates. At times, he stood around the perimeter of the huddle, listening to every word. During substitutions, Lillard often greeted the player coming off the floor and offered a few words.

Though Lillard did not play in the games, he decided that a trip to Vegas would be the first step in growing into a leader on the team for next season.

"Last year, I was a rookie, and I wasn't afraid to do it, but I felt like it needed time," Lillard said. "And now this summer, I feel like we've got Meyers, Will, Vic, Joel and CJ who are all on the team and they're playing here, so I'm young just like them. I didn't have a reason not to be here.

"It starts right now."

The sight of dressed-down NBA superstars watching games inside the two arenas was more common than tourists snapping photos in front of the Fountains at Bellagio. But while these young standouts like Washington's Brad Beal and John Wall attended as courtside observers, Lillard remained involved and active with the team. His team.

With reports still surfacing that LaMarcus Aldridge wants to be traded, the Blazers could belong to Lillard quicker than expected.

Who? Jordan Hamilton was a Dallas pick who was part of the 3-way trade for Felton, meaning he was only a "Blazer" for a few minutes, and only because Denver wanted him. He was never on Portland's radar, and was a Blazer only because the trade was already agreed to by all three teams.

Summer league stats.

http://www.nba.com/summerleague/2013/statistics/las_vegas/index.html

Valanciunas is the obvious MVP, but nobody really had a "wow" of previous years. Kind of goes in line with the consensus of what a weak draft this really was, and although McCollum is already taking shit from this board, take a look at some of the other first and second-year guards, and their stats.

Overall, a weak summer league lessened because some teams played guys from the ABA days, and are still in the 'tournament'.

PJ Tucker was drafted in 2006, ffs, yet he's starting for the PHX team.

I'm not bitter at all about it. I just find it funny that PHX is playing two starters in the Morris twins, as well as PJ Tucker, who started 45 games, along with a bunch of other veterans. They have also said more than once on NBATV that Hornacek wanted to win the summer league to restore a "winning attitude" on the team. Hell, he's even coaching the summer league team, and has two of his veteran starters playing in it.

Previous summer leagues didn't have stacked rosters like these, and most veterans don't play after their second year. The good ones don't play after their first year.

The Morris twins aren't starters and PJ Tucker sucks.

I looked at all of our summer league boxscores, and just two players ended up with a positive +/-, with +7 and +2. Guess who they were.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was Barton and Claver.

Although 3rd of my guesses would be TRob, he had alot of big rebs/plays when we were on our comebacks to force OT after being down big.

Claver is the +2.
Barton: -27
TRob: -32

Markieff started 32 games. Tucker started 45 games. Morris is in his 3rd year, started over 1/3 of PHX's games, yet is on the summer league roster. Marcus Morris started over 20 games last year.

It's embarrassing.

"Surprises and disappointments of Summer League"
Agree with most of them that I saw. Under "surprises"

Stefhon Hannah, D-League Select: I'm pretty firmly on the record that I believe Hannah is an NBA point guard. His play turned heads this week and his ability to defend point guards was on display. He showed a Lindsey Hunter-like ability to harass guards for 94 feet.

Under "disappointments":

Thomas Robinson, Portland Trail Blazers: When Robinson was just being an athlete, he looked incredible. He dominated the boards and had some great moments around the rim. When he needed to make decisions and plays, he looked really bad. He could really stand to study video of how Amar'e Stoudemire scored as a young player and try to emulate that.

Disappointment or not, I still am a fan of what Wroten can grow up to be.

And I'm a fan of the parallel universe Blazers where Brandon Roy's and Greg Oden's knees are pristine, and where we didn't pick Nolan Smith.

Under Disappointments:

"Otto Porter, Washington Wizards: I tried to avoid putting rookies on this list because I think it's mostly unfair to expect them to play a certain way in such a potentially chaotic environment that won't often mirror what they're doing at the NBA level. Porter was disappointing in the sense that he just never seemed to move the needle at all when he was on the court. His game was very subdued and pretty boring overall. It's likely he's just the type of player who can complement good players nicely but doesn't lift the level of fringe guys."

^
I thought this was a interesting for two reasons. I agree with what he says about how Summer league won't often mirror what they're doing at the NBA level. (CJ is a good example)

and his comments about Porter are exactly what I thought when I watched him last year in college.

Porter will be good. Thats just one guys take.

What is good though? Multiple All-Star? I can see him sneaking in as a 1 time All-Star like Jamaal Maglorie, Jameer Nelson, etc. Good and not a horrible baseline for a #3 pick but you are hoping for more when picking that high.

A couple AS appearances. Maybe more. 1 is good enough in a shitty draft like this years. I think he's the highest 'ceiling' guy in this draft.
