Jeffrey Taylor looking great for Charlotte. MKG - not so much. Still very young, though.

McLemore looking like shiet.

Kent Bazemore looks like the best player on the floor, but still not very impressive.

Ian Clark is good.

Are we all hoping Robinson and Leonard end up as good as Malcolm Thomas?

None of them. "Oar" without the "r" sound is "awe". "Er" without the "r" sound is "ö". Or just watch this guy:

You got a clip of him saying, "Dennis Schroeder?" Don't feel like putting together a linguistic puzzle to learn a back-up pg's last name... I was good with Schr-awe-der, until learning what a "ö" sounded like got involved.

I'd wait until I hear his name from NBA announcers, but it wasn't until Pau was traded to the Lakers that they stopped calling him "Paul," so I don't have much faith in them.

Shit, Mike Tirico and Hubie Brown were calling Mike Conley, "Mike Connolly," all playoffs, as if they'd never had to say his name before.

EDIT: Fuck it... I'll just be proud of my ignorance and call him "Shredder," as in, "Look at Shredder shred that defense," or more realistically, "Look at Z-Bo's ninja turtle lookin ass stoppin Shredder in the paint."

"Putting together a linguistic puzzle"? Is that what learning how to say a vowel sound is for you? That's like saying holding a fork is "putting together a culinary puzzle".

I see what you mean - 22 rebounds! I looked him up: he got cut from Maccabi Tel Aviv by his own request because of diminished playing time (his coach was David Platt) and the Spurs had him and let him go, which are two red flags. Also he's about 6'7" and 220lbs, so he's undersized. So he's more "a better Thomas Robinson" right now than "the center we wish we had."

Seeing as how English has over 20 vowel sounds, I can understand the confusion.

I think the 'linguistic puzzle' is trying to decipher how to make the German sound from reading these descriptions. It's not going to happen. That's why, I think, NOVoodo wants to hear someone who knows how to say it, say it.

My wife studied German so I asked her to pronounce it for me. I can barely imitate her pronunciation, let alone explain it by typing a description of it. I'd consider it kind of half-way between the 'Schrerder' and 'Schrawder' descriptions.

Once Mike Rice pronounces his name on the air, the mystery will be solved for us non-German speakers.

I had a helluva time pronouncing Schrrdrr's name. Peanuts and Silver Spoons are too ingrained in my brain I guess.

Chris Haynes ‏@ChrisBHaynes 4m
#Blazers G Will Barton (right knee strain) says he's out, F Victor Claver (right thigh contusion) says he's gametime decision vs Chicago.

#Blazers coach David Vanterpool says he will play CJ McCollum off the ball tonight to get him more looks.

Does this mean we're in the market for a PG?

FWIW Withey looks about as good as Meyers

Yeah, that is why they should have dealt Leonard to New Orleans and kept Withey....Defense is what POR needs from thier Center.....not a guy chucking 3's in practice or in the game....

Fortunately, our actual center is Robin Lopez; Leonard is only a backup. Having a backup C who can shoot might actual be useful.

Concerns:
1) Our "Actual Center" might get injured.
2) Our "Actual Center" has a history of injury problems.
3) Even though he was healthy last year he did not even then play starter's minutes.

I wouldn't say I'm worried, but I (and presumably others) are a bit nervous. That being said, if some sort of disaster occurs I'm sure Olshey will take appropriate action.

My only concern is defense. We pretty much all agree that Aldridge isn't really a help defender. He's fine guarding his man one on one; but he doesn't do much for the "protecting the paint". Also, Aldridge is our most clutch performer on the low block, so offensively, I would rather have him work there.

If we somehow were able to get a "Dalembert" type player that can give you a 18 per 10-15 minutes, I am perfectly happy. It would still give Leonard 10-15 minutes of development

Gorgui Dieng is looking really disappointing for Minny right now. Quick - offer them Meyers Leonard!

1) The same could be said about any position. I wouldn't be happy with any of our backups being starters (except for Dorell Wright).
2) Lopez has gone without injury for the past two seasons. He has a more prolonged history of health than of injury. Lopez has played more than 82% of available games in his 5 years, and just 4 fewer games than Nic Batum over the same timeframe.
3) He was playing in front of/alongside Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson. It's impressive that he got as many minutes as he did. That said, he started every game, and played just 3 fewer mpg than Hickson did last year.

I'm quite comfortable with our center situation, but I would like a veteran third center brought in for mentoring purposes--a 7-foot Earl Watson, so to speak...

I actually think LA is our backup five. We'll play him with Robinson. Just a guess, however.
