Here's a thought:

Portland - OKC
7 <-> 12 + 34 + Future 1 + Dort

Portland - Toronto
12 + Hart <-> OG

Portland - Charlotte
Bledsoe + Winslow + Didi <-> Hayward + 15

Portland picks at 15 + 34 & then also has:
Dame, OG, Hayward, Grant, Nurk as starters
& Ant, Little, & (xx FA) as key reserves off the bench.

I suspect that Toronto wants 7 because they want someone who won't be available later in the draft.

Good for them. Let them keep OG on the bench behind two forwards they like more, on a middling playoff team and see how happy everyone is.
That might happen.

Looks like we have many fans on both fan bases over-valuing their assets. Pretty standard fan behavior.

I think most everyone has a player they would take in the draft at number 7 over OG. For me it would be multiple players.

You think Toronto has a player in the draft they'd take a 7 for OG? That appears to be the question at hand.

It's also just super refreshing that OG (and Grant for that matter) actually want to be in Portland. Good lord, even decent players would not be caught dead wanting to come to Portland in the Olshey regime. I'm more okay riding with guys that actually want to be here and play with Dame.

....and Marang has been right about the Grant trade for months.

It's a weird phenomena among many here (not you), that anyone in the Portland media who actually gets paid to give their take, as opposed to us shnooks who do it for free, automatically has to be derided.

I watch mostly because he does give some good insider information from time to time. I don't think he's directly tied to direct sources, but he talks with people that are for sure. He definitely has conversations with Nate Jones (Dame's agent/friend) so he's pretty plugged in to Dame's camp. He also has a pretty direct line to Ant/Nas.

Marang has been pretty spot on the last few months. He had the OG interest way before anyone as well

Here’s a question: let’s say Sharpe really is another Anthony Edwards. If we’re playing this game of hypotheticals, does this team really need Anthony Edwards more than an elite wing defender that can consistently space the court?

it's not a question of need.

which is harder to find?

which has more value around the league?

if Sharpe becomes Edwards in two years, you explore Simons trade options then.

what do you mean it’s not a question of need? Trading for OG is 100% a question of need. They’re trying to win, not build up their asset pool. Grant trade confirmed that.

i don't think it's that binary. and i'm also not of the opinion that OG (and Grant) puts us in championship contention.

Considering how far we are from that level, we should be building assets.

That’s just your opinion, I’m not asking whether you believe they’re a contender or not, I’m asking who the better fit is for a team that management believes can contend.

Give a name to that elite wing defender so we can make a comparison.

you already seem to know the answer you want to hear, so why ask the question?

so this team needs Anthony Edwards more than a lockdown wing? It’s a pretty simple question you still haven’t answered.

This team needs assets.

OG is the final piece to a championship puzzle. We are not close to a championship team. And it doesn't matter that we added Grant. He doesn't bring us anywhere closer either.

I answered that three posts ago.

If you wanna play that game, Anthony Edwards isn’t the final piece to a championship puzzle either.

This question leaves the timeline out. If management believes this team could contend immediately - you got for that final piece. If management believes it might be able to contend in a couple of years with the new coach and system, and maybe some assets making the jump - you go for the potential. Everything I heard from management before does not make it sound like they believe they can contend immediately - but maybe I am wrong.

this convo is like pulling teeth. I feel like you're being purposely difficult because you didn't get the response you were seeking.

As i said in my very first response :

You think OG has more value than Edwards for a team building towards a championship?

Cronin even said this could take a few years.

And I think Dame will be on board once he gets his extension. He's not sitting in on every draft workout with 18 yr olds if he isnt on board.
