Quite the departure from “elite” is the point. I have always and in the thread and conversation have maintained they are a good team. Just not great.

True, but to be fair, I’m not sure there are any ‘great’ teams in the country this year. Georgia? Just got beat by the 9th ranked team. Michigan? Not super-impressed with them. Washington? Scraped through too many close calls to be considered great. FSU? Don’t think anyone had them tagged as a great team, and certainly not now with their quarterback out. Ohio State or Alabama? Meh. I think the Ducks could hang with any of them and might win if they got some breaks.

I don’t know? Seems like we will get to see exactly how good Washington is. They are one of the only undefeated teams. Very hard to go the entire season undefeated.

FSU QB is officially out.

It might be between Michigan, Washington, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas.

Kinda glad we're not in this because I have a feeling I'd be pissed at the outcome. More pissed than losing a straight up fight to Washington.

I can't imagine Florida St isn't in the discussion. Going to be wild.

If we didn't already have a 12 team playoff coming, this year would've been the end of the 4 team playoff with this mess!

so, it's Michigan and Washington for sure

then it's FSU, Texas, Alabama

* FSU has a national championship level defense; and they are an undefeated conference champion with wins over LSU, Clemson, Duke, and Louisville. Will be very hard to leave them out

* Alabama has looked like a top-4 teams for several weeks and they kept getting better. They are the SEC champion. And they have wins over Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU, and now #1 Georgia

* Texas is a won loss Big-12 champion. They have the fewest ranked wins and 3 wins by 7 points or less. BUT, they beat Alabama at Alabama

recipe for chaos and whichever team is left out is going to scream bloody murder

The easy way out:

Michigan
Washington
FSU
Texas

- Valued undefeated conf champs
- Valued head to head

SEC would LOSE it
Me too, especially after Sankey was pandering to the media this morning.

This is what I want for the three reasons you listed, with the SEC losing their minds being #1.

Sadly, Oregon is likely to get one of those pissed off SEC teams and that game will be ugly.

The committee is F'd... there is no clear, clean, top 4.
Yep. Whovever they leave out will absolutely have a valid argument, but crazy as it is to say, 'Bama's argument is probably the least valid.

I'd say Georgia's is less valid than Alabama. Bama and Georgia have the same record, Bama won their conference, and Bama beat Georgia head to head.

But that might be the argument for why they should be ranked #5!

This is why I’m almost glad I don’t have to worry about it. I have a feeling Oregon would have been left out because of their perception of SOS.

If the goal were to put in the best 4 teams, regardless of resume, it would be Michigan, Texas, Bama, and Georgia.

If the goal were to put in the teams with the best resume on paper, it would be Michigan, Washington, FSU, and Texas

If you're trying to mix the two and factor in the Travis injury, good luck.

I hope they do. I’d love to see where the Ducks stand against the SEC. It was ugly against Georgia last year, but I think the Ducks are much better this year.

I'm actually sick because I think Oregon was really well positioned. They were ahead of Texas and Bama for over a month despite their SOS. A top 3 win was only going to help their SOS.

Not to mention they might've got in a 4 team playoff w/out an SEC team. Friggin A.

And if Washington somehow gets to play Florida St in the semi-finals, I'm going to puke.

I want to win. And there is a chance Nix won't play.

Ty Thompson vs Alabama is not something I want to see.

they are on an 11 game win streak and just beat #1. And they have 4 wins against ranked teams: #1; #11; #13; #21. Those are pretty compelling arguments given the criteria the CFP is supposed to use

I have been wanting to play Bama for almost a decade and it would suck if this was it lol

Agreed. Had they played SW Texas in September instead of Texas, they'd be the #1 or #2 seed. But that head to head loss against Texas really complicates things.

oh I’d like to see what Thompson can do. Sometimes situations like getting thrown in the fire you can find a gem.

Kind of like Cardale Jones
