OT: Baseball coming to Portland in the near future (AGAIN?)

I wouldn't mind the Raiders here. I wouldn't have to go to Cali to see the Jets every year.

We should have had the Raiders back when they were talking about building a stadium in Delta Park. The stupid ass voters turned it down.

Yeah. That was a while ago. The Delta Dome wasn't it. My mom told me about it. More of a Tacoma Dome design wasn't it. The kind to bring in big bands and redneck tractor pulls. Great idea. Would of been nice to see ACDC or Iron Maiden growing up in Portland during the eighties .....

It was going to be the first dome ever built. We had the Raiders all lined up. That's the problem with Portland... no foresight.

Dude. You'll never get Oregon ins to build anything for sports or even charity. Just look at the so-called fine arts programs like the Symphony Orchestra. They have to put on bake sales to make ends meet. This is not a sports friendly town and it never will be.

It's sports friendly, but only if we don't have to pay to build shit. It will ultimately cost us the Blazers at some point down the line because I doubt we would vote to build a new arena.

You're right. And this town will deserve it.

I would be outraged if we traded basketball for baseball.

There wouldn't be a trade. I don't think any new stadiums/arenas will be built for the foreseeable future.

I'm curious, how long do you guys think the Rose Garden will be acceptable before the Blazers want to build something new? 20 years?

20-25 years It's amazing when I went down there how dated it looked. And the Rose Garden was considered top of the line when it started. But I guess there is meant to be a difference when you compare it to The Forum or The MSG.

Ugh... I remember that.... It would have created jobs and we'd actually have a FOOTBALL TEAM. Fuck Baseball. Fuck Hockey. I want FOOTBALL.

You guys are silly. The Blazers are going nowhere. Paul Allen built that stadium and he will build another. We just need Seattle to get a team 1st. ;)

Paul isn't really in the best health overall. Do you think he'll be alive in 20-30 years?

I hate to say it but ther re is no way Silver would allow the NBA to lose the Portland market. It is just to important a team. This is directly in opposition to what the town does to keep the team.

I'd take a professional racquetball team over a football team. Worst sport in the world. I hate football.

People were probably saying the same thing about the Sonics before they left.

Yeah. Well they may be getting a football team but we have more strip clubs then they do.

You're in the minority there brotha. Football is the most watched sport in the nation. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Almost every person I know would love a Football team here.

Even the Raider fans are saying if they have to leave they'd prefer them to stay on the West Coast in Portland. Hasn't that area stolen enough teams like the Sonics? Let us steal a team.

A football team generates activity 8 days a year. A baseball team brings the area around it to life 81 days a year. Plus it offsets the basketball season beautifully.

A baseball team in Portland would be phenomenal.

30 years it'll be gone. Parents already having kids play other sports. Can't wait till it's gone and people realize what a moronic sport it really is. :)

(can you tell my disdain yet?)

Fair enough. But how much would a new stadium generate? You can have more than just football games there.

What non-football activities would a football stadium facilitate that a baseball stadium would not?
