Forcing Chris Jackson to stand for the Anthem sure made the U.S. look bad to other countries. Imagine your reaction if another country did that. The best American propaganda is when it behaves liberally.

only difference is, I'm not PMing the mods complaining about how everyone is ass clowns/picking on me, and I'm not making it personal or crossing the line.

Hell, presenting opinion without making it personal is tiring enough, making it personal must be exhausting. Papag's stamina must've been at a world class athlete's level.

storm in a teacup, even says in the article he was with the team in the lineup for the anthem at the next game - id hardly say he's steadfast in his beliefs at all..... long story short - who cares.

funny that it happened to 'synch' with his first game starting from the bench.... tantrum with religion as a scapegoat? he's not smart - that's obvious, maybe we spend less time thinking about stupid people? :P

All non-Cavs fans should be forced to stand for Cavs player intros at the start of all games in Cleveland. It would be disrespectful to disobey the city's customs.

Ironic that you would pick those two, considering their war of words and totally different outlook on the game. As I recall, Malone said Coleman had all the talent in the world but lacked the drive or intelligence to do much with it team-wise. Coleman responded by saying he could take Malone any day in a game of one-on-one.

They don't even do it in the military. Just sports fans and schoolchildren do it, from conformity not choice. How many countries have this stupid custom? Denny's link showed that Muslim countries don't do it.

My biggest problem with this is that Americans are expected to show respect to other countries, nationalities, religions, and sexual preference.
If not those people who are disrespected act out and show that they've been disrespected in some way...
However if an American finds something disrespectful another does.. it's brushed under the rug like that doesn't matter.
It's really a huge double standard that is just as wrong.

Why should someone get crucified for saying they're uncomfy around homosexuals and not going out of their way to be around them.. While still being respectful.
Why should someone get crucified for saying they're not okay standing up in front of a flag during a national anthem... then expect someone to show great respect for ones religion when they're showing zero respect for another person's country?


The double standard for today's world is just unreal.


(I fully understand there are Americans that don't show respect to anyone/anything at all.)

I agree. Im not muslim but I dont partake of the pledge of alligiance and I dont stand for the anthem. Its not a disrespect to the troops its my way of saying publicly that I dont agree with the leadership in this country and I dont support them with a pledge.

Last I checked we had a right to peacefully protest and a freedom of expression so long as it doesnt Infringe on someone elses rights.

Thank you, I was wondering that myself. Probably the difference is that that happened before 9/11 and now everybody's super-touchy. Of course, they were pretty touchy then, too.

Simple solution: stop playing the anthem at basketball games. I really don't understand why North Americans do that anyway. I'm pretty sure they don't play God Save the Queen (either the anthem or the Sex Pistols song) before Arsenal plays Tottenham. What the fuck have sports got to do with the National Anthem?

I'd say it's the opposite and we're more PC now (even if it's hypocritical). See post 117--Jackson was suspended immediately and until he said he'd stand out there quietly. No one from the NBA has told Juggler to STFU and take his paycheck until he gets over himself.

Simple solution: stop playing the anthem at basketball games. I really don't understand why North Americans do that anyway. It ain't about the quality of the tune dude. Perhaps your opinion of the tune has merit, as I don't think Vivaldy ever played the piece nor should you expect a rendition from Itzak Perlman anytime soon.

It is simply a song played for Americans to come together for a moment of solidarity. The ritual has been practiced every since our national games have been played. I don't recall seeing anyone bitch before these times.

It seems to me if some SOB wants to forgo the moment because it offends him in his religious beliefs, that is a fucking clue we should take seriously that about 10% of the Muslims have indeed declared war on us as Americans. A small minority of the Muslims is one whole hell of a lot of them and I find no reason to tolerate this sort of disrespect (shit). It is not his religion that has insisted he not act like an American, it is his desire to show solidarity with those Muslims wishing Americans all sorts of grief. That is the clue.

Damn that was a hard foul. I bet his butt/side is fuuuucked up after that.

As for his belief and stuff. I think it's all just dumb. They listen to 82 NA's a season, over and over, at some point I guarantee it's lost its meaning to some, just by sure overload. I don't agree with him not being with his team; but it is America and it's his choice. We all have our opinions on it just like him, that's how it works here.

because it was a lie that he was going to refrain from being present during the anthem. That's the lie he's referring to (at least, imho). The link from realgm showed that there was a difference in the quotes.

One implies he said he would excuse himself for the rest of the time he plays, the other says he excused himself for the one game due to religious beliefs.

He could be covering his ass, but maybe there was a reason. No idea what the reason could be though. Maybe it was time for prayer?
