Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

Actually I would. You haven't seen me in games. I have no problem telling people to their face about what I feel. I've done it before.

I'm talking on a one on one basis. You're telling me that if you saw Dion Waiters in person, and you were the only one there, you'd say "I hope you get fouled hard/knocked on your ass/leave the country!" ?

Bullshit. You wouldn't say shit.

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

and has the right not to stand/be present if that's what he believes.

I may not agree with him, but it's entirely his right to not be present during the anthem. It doesn't mean he doesn't respect those who served, or respect the country, or not believe in the values of country.
It is totally his right, he should not be banned or anything like that, but it's our right to consider him a repugnant shitbox and boo him loudly.

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

I get what Julius is talking about and agree with him. He can do what he wants. I just love the drama and the distraction. Lebron is trying to get the team focused on good team basketball and Waiters seemed to go out of his way to gain attention after he lost his starting position. I love it! The Blazers played a small part in causing the Cavs some early season turmoil and I love that too.

Waiters making this announcement doesn't change how I feel about the guy because I've never cared for him. I'm just enjoying the drama.

I enjoy it too. I'm enjoying it not happening to Portland especially. :)

I would absolutely say it! But hey man you know me. Whatever you say man. I'm a coward that won't say what's on my mind to some jack ass.

Did you hear what I said to Westbrook in the elevator?

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

Julius and mags need to meet at mt. Tabor.

My money is on mags.

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

I fail to see how being Muslim means you can't show some fucking respect to the country you're living and working in, and which allows you your religious freedom.

Not being present at the NA is not showing disrespect.

no, what did you say, alone with no one else around?

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

imho, it doesn't matter what the connection it. Being present for the NA is not required. It is not a crime to excuse yourself from the area when the anthem begins, just as it is not a crime to remain silent with your arms at your side during the national anthem.

It's that whole pesky freedom of speech thing. You know, having the right to think different than others and not be forced to leave the country.
Freedom of speech has nothing to do with this. Nobody's trying to have him arrested or silenced. He absolutely has the right to say whatever he wants, but not without judgment. Similarly, I also absolutely have the right to evaluate the content and method of his statement.

Does freedom of speech only apply to him, and not to me as well?

My wife was in the elevator with me.

It was just me, him and my wife.

I told him the Blazers are gonna kick his ass. I had my Aldridge Jersey on and I was staying in The nines.

We all agree. He has that right. But it is unseemly and stupid to exercise that right, in my opinion. Our national anthem represents the values that are central to our identity as a country, and by absenting himself during its performance he appears to be rejecting those values, which at the very least is hypocritical, since he seems to have no problem raking in millions of dollars from this country whose anthem he apparently doesn't care for.

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

Unfortunately he replied "im dropping 50 on you guys". I said bullshit

That night he had like 40.

I've been around Mags enough in real life to tell you that he's a ballsy, mouthy fucker. I've seen him jump up on stage with a band he's never played with and sing in front of a packed bar. I've also seen him mouth off to a NBA player during a game that the player finally turned around and told him to fuck off. I have no doubt that he would say something to Waiters.

Thanks bro!

There is two players I would be totally scared of though. There names are Charles Oakley and Ron Artest

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with this. Nobody's trying to have him arrested or silenced.

That's not the only thing that FoS means. You are allowed to have different thoughts, and religious practices. You are not required to practice certain activities that are religious in nature if you so chose not to, or certain practices that go against beliefs you have (both religiously or just that you have).

You are NOT required, by ANY law, to be present when the national anthem is being sung, or presented. And if the reason you have is religious, you are within your rights. And if it's not religious, you're still within your rights.

He absolutely has the right to say whatever he wants, but not without judgment. Similarly, I also absolutely have the right to evaluate the content and method of his statement.

It does apply to you. You were asking for more clarification, right? Denny did provide a link, and I said it doesn't matter even if he doesn't have a religious reason. You're well within your rights to not be present for the national anthem. It is not the bench mark for being a patriot, or respecting the country.

mouthing off to a player in an arena (which gives you a lot of safety in numbers) is not the same as saying someone should be fouled hard because they hold a different belief/perspective than you do.

To me, calling for a player to be fouled hard or saying they should leave the country is something you say anonymously, because you're protected by the fact that Dion Waiters will never see this. Saying something like that to the person, to his face without 19K other people, security and cameras, is another.

Kaman is a player I wouldn't fuck with. Seems like a nice guy but I wouldn't want to see him pissed.

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

I'll break it down.

Not being present at the NA (being absent from the line of teammates when they are presenting the national anthem) does not mean you are disrespecting the country.

Yeah but he's sane enough to jut knock you out. I think Artest and Oakley would probably keep going until they get tired.

really, you think that's the same as basically telling a guy he should get fouled hard or leave the country because he is well within is legal rights not to be there when they play the national anthem?

Go ahead and tweet him and give him your name and see how that goes.

First, you're conflating freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

Second, you seem to be misinterpreting both what I want and why I want it.

I'm on my phone, so I'm not going to take the time to clarify everything for you.

Let's put it another way.

You are invited to a wedding. You refuse to attend the ceremony because you are against the wedding, yet you have no problem eating the food at the reception.

Is that respectful?

Re: OT - Dion Waiters informs Cavs that he is a Muslim and plans to skip national ant

This proves two things:

1: Dion Waiters doesn't understand that the national anthem isn't a religious song.

2: Dion Waiters doesn't understand that Muslims and Christians believe in the same God.

Oh...

3: Dion Waiters is a moron.

Or it could be for the same reason witnesses don't stand for it

I'm sure if we went through your posts we would find many that you would never say alone to a player's face. It's a forum, exaggerated hyperbole is a requirement. If we suddenly enacted a standard of, "don't say something about a player that you wouldn't say to their face" this place would become very boring.
