Oden was drunk and misunderstood what his girlfriend meant when she asked him if he wanted court time.

It's remarkable how far a person can fall.

I wonder if there were any red flags on his draft psych evaluation. If so, it must have not carried much weight during the the selection process.

he was "too unselfish" was the knock

Allegations at this point

Unless the police are lying, he admitted it and went with the police to be booked. Even worse for Oden, there were witnesses who tried to restrain him, and that's by his own admission. Since as far as I can tell this is first arrest for anything, he'll probably plea into a diversion program. I hope he also gets professional help, because from a distance, he appears to have been dealing with depression for 6 years now.

Jason Kidd did the same thing and now he's on his second head coaching job and probably a future hall of famer.

OK. I was just reading headlines saying arrest and allegations of Oden punching her in the face. Sounds like law enforcement has a "slam dunk" case.

This girl is going to get a big check and she should

Wow, there's a lot of Schadenfreude in this thread.

He got injured and couldn't live up to our expectations. Let it go.

Talking bad about Oden because he was a disappointing bust is just bullshit talk, nobody really has that kind of venom for him, but this is seriously a despicable thing, has nothing to do with him being a bust.

Prob just slapped her with the hammer. Thread needs more bathroom selfies. Where are the wolves fans?

The guy must be miserable every day of his life. He needs help it seems.

He's suspended from ESPN. Probably a good thing for both Smith and ESPN that he isn't on air today.

He was supposed to be off suspension yesterday. Maybe ESPN wised up and just canned him.

I would have said the same thing I said about Oden even if he played for the Utah Jazz and never played for the Blazers. He didn't just fail to meet expectations, he isn't even really capable of being an NBA player after being in the league for 6 years. He has played on average 17 games each season. He went from being the next Shaq to being DNP's in short order. The fail here is unfathomable, and then to punch a woman ( he admits it) ... it's just very pathetic.

Yeah, I remember how mad I was at him for destroying his own knees. What a failure that guy was.

It may not be his fault, but he is still a failure. To go from can't miss superstar to his current situation so quickly and so dramatically can only be described as a failure. He even said "I know I'm one of the biggest busts in NBA history."

There are different kinds of busts. Those that can't play, those that destroy their own career and those that can't stay healthy. The first two deserve my scorn, the third doesn't.

Sure, he's a maggot for hitting a woman, but the hate for him here is based on the failure of his body to live up to our expectations.

Many would argue, based on his foul issues and his alcoholism, that Oden was all three.

Yeah, Stephen A Smith may be wondering why the woman didn't prevent it.

A take (and yes, from a man).

Very disappointing. I was trying to support him for so lon as I think he is likable but has depression or something and really needs some help. But this is a kiss of death.

I can't fault him for getting injured. But I can be disappointed in him for how he responded to his adversity.
- playing a pickup game at 24 hr fitness during his rehab.
- naked selfie pics
- not attending games while he was injured to stay connected with the team.
- saying Portland isn't a good place for young African American man.
- when I attended a season ticket holder event at Big Al's, he played Guitar Hero the entire time, barely acknowledging the fans. He briefly paused to say "chicken wings" to an attendant to indicate he wanted food.

This is just the latest event in a consistent pattern of failure.
