I'm sure he'll still have some defenders for some reason.
What is Stephen A Smith's take on this . . .
I wonder if there were any red flags on his draft psych evaluation. If so, it must have not carried much weight during the the selection process.
Are we certain he hit her in the face with his fist?
Allegations at this point
Unless the police are lying, he admitted it and went with the police to be booked. Even worse for Oden, there were witnesses who tried to restrain him, and that's by his own admission. Since as far as I can tell this is first arrest for anything, he'll probably plea into a diversion program. I hope he also gets professional help, because from a distance, he appears to have been dealing with depression for 6 years now.

Wow, there's a lot of Schadenfreude in this thread.
He got injured and couldn't live up to our expectations. Let it go.
He's suspended from ESPN. Probably a good thing for both Smith and ESPN that he isn't on air today.
I would have said the same thing I said about Oden even if he played for the Utah Jazz and never played for the Blazers. He didn't just fail to meet expectations, he isn't even really capable of being an NBA player after being in the league for 6 years. He has played on average 17 games each season. He went from being the next Shaq to being DNP's in short order. The fail here is unfathomable, and then to punch a woman ( he admits it) ... it's just very pathetic.Wow, there's a lot of Schadenfreude in this thread.

It may not be his fault, but he is still a failure. To go from can't miss superstar to his current situation so quickly and so dramatically can only be described as a failure. He even said "I know I'm one of the biggest busts in NBA history."Yeah, I remember how mad I was at him for destroying his own knees. What a failure that guy was.

It's remarkable how far a person can fall.
Many would argue, based on his foul issues and his alcoholism, that Oden was all three. There are different kinds of busts. Those that can't play, those that destroy their own career and those that can't stay healthy. The first two deserve my scorn, the third doesn't.
Sure, he's a maggot for hitting a woman, but the hate for him here is based on the failure of his body to live up to our expectations.
I think he just got a gig with Sirius. He's suspended from ESPN. Probably a good thing for both Smith and ESPN that he isn't on air today.
