Portland Signs Georgios Papagiannis to a 10-Day Contract

What? Even the Ducks weren't 100 per cent about recruiting this guy. He's got the agility of a walrus on stilts.

Oh man, you just gave me a flashback.

I'm happy about this signing.

Meyers played a very, very solid 5 minutes last night. This gives the Blazers the flexibility of trading or keeping Meyers. Either is fine with me.

Leonard has a very rich contract which makes trading him virtually impossible.

In the limited minutes we have seen him play this year, he seems to be better. We know he has offensive skills and makes few mistakes.

On D is where his feel for the game was lacking. But I really think he can be taught to be better. Like the others re-signed that summer, they are all decent players they were just over paid. Meyers with more minutes could show enough talent to be traded...to the right team. Papagiannis on a cheaper contract is better suited to be our 3rd string center though. It is so important this summer that we get rid of Meyer's contract. Maybe we play him 5 minutes every 1st quarter and see if we can generate some interest?

We're going to appreciate Meyers if Nurk has foul trouble moving forward....I like the way Stotts used him last night instead of letting Zach and Ed pick up any early fouls.....Meyers played well...his no look pass to Chief for that corner three had some zip on it....Meyers and Mo aren't really a problem for the money anymore in my view....we paid Camby 13.3 million in the lockout season to play about 7 good games for us and he was old as dirt

Is the contract fully guaranteed for next year? Also, does anyone know if we will have bird right side on him at end of contract?

I like this. With him and Baldwin we have gone for a couple of players who were quite highly rated not so long ago but struggled to perform in the league for their teams. Maybe they will find their feet here like Harkless, Napier and a few others have.

I want our bench to emulate Raptors bench, have 5-6 players there who are quite cheap but contribute A LOT and have potential to get better. It would be a huge advantage in the West where teams don't really have that.

Napier is our VanVleet. Now we need a Wright, Siakam and Poeltl.

It’s non guaranteed, just like Baldwin’s.

Yup. It’s a cheap way to fill the bench, and both could contribute next season. Papagiannis is an ideal third center who can come in when Nurk gets in foul trouble and they’re going up against a traditional center.

Baldwin has the defensive versatility to play multiple positions but is best fit as a point guard. I like him more than Napier. Napier is a better shooter but that’s probably it. And with Baldwin, we can go with the three guard lineup against more teams.

PLEASE, no!

Terry is out there coaching him as we speak.

Casey H just tweeted that they signed him to a contract for next year too.

I wonder if it is guaranteed for next year. I would think it would be a non guaranteed or only partially guaranteed.

Upon further reading it appears it isn't guaranteed.

Aye. He was a reach at 13 and a stupid pick by Kings but there was no doubt he was going up the draft boards before the draft that year and would have gone in the first round anyway. You should never write off first round picks after a year or two in the league.

Hezonja is another one I want us to take a shot on if we can get him for a half decent contract.

Camby was a star and deserved that pay. Leonard looks better the last couple of years, because we see him only in 5-minute increments.

When Serbian Vlade Divac drafted Greek Papagiannis to back up Greek Kostas Koufos and Haitian Skal Labissiere, did anyone notice that those last 3 had attended American high schools?

We have some serious front court depth...not a lot of teams can say that

Every team has depth like ours. For example, last year's Kings centers I just listed, plus DeMarcus Cousins.

I wonder if portland plans to use the tax MLE this summer (assuming they keep all their RFAs)

If they do there would be some guys I’d like to see them pursue, Hezonja being one. I can’t see him getting the full MLE. He’s played better this year, but he’s still been up and down, even with more consistent minutes. I think the full MLE will be reserved for better players like Tyreke Evans. Nurk could help recruit Mario too since they’re close.

Will Barton is another name but he could theoretically get the full MLE. I think he’s right in the middle.

I wonder what JJ Redick will get. If we show out in the playoffs we could attract players like him. Considering his age, the tax MLE isn’t too crazy.

It will be interesting to see how he and Baldwin perform this summer. If there is anybody who can get value at of discarded number 1 picks it's Olshey.

I think Redick has already agreed to stay in Philadelphia. They probably had a gentlemen's agreement prior to this season that they would give him $20M a year in 2018 but would need to offer more in 2019 because they wanted to go for LeBron/George then. It's just a hunch I have though but if Redick is signing for MLE somewhere it has to be Philadelphia.

Olshey signs them. Stotts gets value out of them.

Olshey gets credit when Stotts is able to get value out of them. Olshey gets blame when Stotts is not able to get value out of them. Better?

If anything, Olshey gets most of the praise when they do well; Stotts gets most of the blame when they don't.

I can see why they kept Pappa.... if he drops around 30 pounds and improves his positioning..... he could be a really good backup.

I’m pretty sure Olshey has gotten more blame for Meyers than Stotts. And it’s deserved. You can’t polish turds.

That being said, he should also get credit when a player succeeds, but for some reason those comments aren’t as common.

He’d be a good backup for Nurkic because he offers some of the same pick and roll ability and rim protection as well as the size to go up against traditional bigs. Love Davis but his best fit is as a backup because he’d physically get overmatched by most starting centers. That’s why having a third center with papa’s skills would really be beneficial. We’d never have to expose Davis.

Olshey is building a playoff contender out of spare parts and castoffs. I don't know the last time a NBA team did that and won a championsip. What..... 04-05 Pistons? This is a league where people fall over themselves to get premium talent. We are definitely going a different route.

I feel so good about this team. Olshey and Stotts both deserve a lot of credit. But what Dame brings to this team is unprecedented. He's the Captain, the glue, the compass, the soul, the MVP. Might as well start building the statue because Dame will go down as the best Blazer of all time
