Preseason Game 7: Nets @ Knicks

the first six weeks of the season will be about learning lessons.
 
And that concludes the preseason.

I wasn't a big fan of drafting Brook but he's proving the doubters wrong and winning me over. Long way to go but I like what I've seen so far from him.
 
I don't get Sean. He had some great moments in the first half of last season but since the All-star break from last season he just seems to have regressed somehow.
 
Sean williams was good with jason kidd. once kidd left he stunk cuzz he didnt have that guy to throw him a perfect alley opp like they used to do in the first half of last season

How many lob passes did Kidd throw to him last year? I think you are confusing S.Williams to Kmart.

Most of s. williams dunks were either lobb passes. All im saying is that Sean cant create his own shot yet. He cant do anything down on the post with the ball

THOUGHT ON SEAN:
I again didn't lie what I saw tonight, but here's an observation:
At one point in the 2nd Half, Sean dropped back on D, almost blocked a shot, but retained his position for a Defensive Rebound. The only reason he didn't secure the ball was because he got clubbed and then there was a mini-melee for the ball. Sean scraped and scrapped and went to the floor and got it away from the Knicks and to a teammate. Nothing pretty, but hustle. Upon calling a timeout, Lawrence Frank bum rushed the floor, ran to help get him up,(teammates beat him to it), and he 'love-tapped' or smacked Sean in the head in excited acknowledgement.
I think that could be very telling. He must see enough from Sean that we don't see to be still supporting him like that...so....take what you will from it, but it REALLY stood out to me.

Thank god. I thought I might have been the only one who saw that
 
just caught the game on DVR. I take back all my smack talk on Simmons, he can shoot, but not in lateral motion. Hayes not so bad. I like Hassel, he's a dirtywork player, and he's got a mean streak, he and Najara will be a nice pair. Lopez is freaking sweet. Ryan Anderson has a great nose for the ball. CDR is fresh. Dooling is real nice. Devin made better decisions tonight. Vince had 20/9? wow that was quiet.

I'm diggin this team.



The Knicks are a talented squad though, they should do well this season for a change.
 
Just watched the game on DVR and here's my thoughts:

I love dooling. That's it. Nah, but in all seriousness i think he's going to be great for us. Instant Off. from the bench. Same for Hayes, and i really hope im not jinxing us but have we finally found our free agents who actually pan out? Because both of them look good.

Bobby Simmons made me eat my words and put together a very nice performance. Played some good De. and shot the lights out. Who knows maybe he'll revert back to his old days and be a solid 3 this season. If he plays decent for us this season he's a guy who i wouldnt mind signing for another 2 years for a low price to possibly come off the bench.

CDR, once again played good. Attacked the basket, shot well from the perimeter, sick blocked shot, and once again showed his knack for steals. One thing i've noticed, whether it's summer league games, or pre-season, every announcing crew always says the same thing. CDR is going to make it in the NBA, he just knows how to play, and that means something.

Ryan Anderson looked good as well, His 3 ball isnt too consistant right now but i'm sure it will get there, but regardless he showed some nice moves attacking the basket and is a very good rebounder.

Brook Lopez, not a very good shooting night, i think 4-12 or somthing like that but still managed to put up 12 points i think. The thing is while he missed alot of shots, i'm pretty confident in saying that they were all shots we'r used to seeing him make, he just didnt have the touch tonight. Was too strong on his hooks and too soft on a few jumpers. I'm confident that he can easily avergage 16 or so ppg if he gets the minutes, which he will, for his rookie season. The big thing like Clyde said (as much as i hate him as an announcer), is he hits his free throws. He gets to the line, hits free throws, and can keep the def. honest when it's dumped down to him, which in my mind is huge especially for spacing reasons, opening up the outside when teams collapse on him. On defence, Brook was great 4 blocks, good man De, Randolf hit a couple outside shots on him but they were contested for the most part showing brook has some mobility and quickness. To go along with that, he plays great help De. as well, he covers alot of ground in the paint.

Sadly, as much as i love the kid, Sean looked awkward out there again. He needs to develope big time, needs better hands, and has to hold the ball up high. He gets it in the paint, does a spin move and holds the ball low every time which usually means he's getting stripped.
 
I agree (mostly) with BoomDog.

Remember this: this team has played the entire preseason without significant contributions from any of the veterans signed in the off-season: Dooling played in three games, Hayes in one and Najera in none at all. Boone played in two. Veteran presence counts, particularly on defense. I was impressed by Hayes who after missing all the previous preseason games came in and confidently fired up three's, from the wing. He wasn't very good on defense, but was more athletic than I hoped. Dooling, who has had a sprained ankle, then the flu, looked fine.

Simmons, meanwhile, has settled into his corner office, banging three pointers. I would like to see him drive more, post up more, but in the dribble-drive offense, guys like Simmons and Hayes could be very important.

Why isn't anyone talking about VC? The guy has looked awesome in limited minutes throughout the preseason. His dominance seems effortless. He hasn't turned it on yet. Let people write that his legs are "going", that he is "in decline". I think he is playing possum.

Sean Williams is Lawrence Frank's pet project this season. Do not discount the value of that confidence building. As David Thorpe noted last year in his Rookie Report, Williams is a "special talent". He has seen what the Nets did since last February: traded for Swift, traded for Yi, drafted Lopez and Anderson...all guys who played his position(s). Frank knows if he is going to be a part of the team's future, he needs confidence. Thus, the Frank enthusiasm for him on the court and comments, even after a bad game, on his play off the court.

Brook Lopez is going to be very, very good in this league, probably by year's end, barring injury. It would be nice if Ryan Anderson, the shooter, showed up to complement Ryan Anderson, the hyper-smart hoopster. He is shooting 23.8% from deep.

I think a good goal for this group would be to win more than last year. Early on, that will be tough, but as long as the team is relatively healthy, it's doable.

Well i agree VC is great in just about every aspect of the game and he'll be effective and a 20 plus ppg scorer for another good 2 years in my eyes.

The reason i often forget to mention him is because it's pre-season and i know what VC can do and honestly just expect him to be a great player, which he is. He's the player who i don't worry about at all because i know he'll bring it.
