Would anyone actually want Draymond? I know Dame loves him. I was impressed with him during the Olympics. I don't like the guy as a person.

The main issue is that I don't want to have to match his salary. He's making 27.5 million next year. I'm sure Golden State would dump him for next to nothing, but we're also not really on great terms with the Warriors.
He has a player option next year, so maybe he opts out and takes a large paycut to play with Dame. But i hate the guy so much i dont think i even want him on friendly deal.

There is no way Golden State would dump him for next to nothing, LOL.
He’s a free agent after next season. His numbers are ok but not great. He’s a distraction. How much value does he have?

Orlando could have some cap space available, with guys on non-guaranteed deals to waive. Have seen some of their fans show interest in Bulls pick for Simons. So could be a 3 way deal, Simons to Orlando, 12 to GS, Draymond here. GS would save a TON of money. Maybe we include a 19 for 23 swap.

Yuck! This dude is getting worse all of the time and if he isn't getting away with being the dirtiest player in the game he's not an NBA level basketball player.

Combining reg season plus playoffs, Dame has played nearly 2000 more minutes in his career than Jimmy. Butler misses regular season games mostly as a function of load management but he doesn't miss playoff games. If you think Butler is done, what is Dame?
I said Butler is almost done, not done. Maybe they were just cover for the load management, but I recall Jimmy siting knee, back and foot injuries when he's been out. Pretty sure he's had a knee scoped once or twice. Over the course of his career, Dame hasn't had those sorts of chronic issues which may be a part of his smooth game where as Butler plays pretty vicious. Nonetheless, all players well into their 30s are clearly nearing the finish line... many physically fall apart prior. Even if a player is lucky enough to avoid a knee ligament tear during their career, they are still wearing down the cartilage every time they play. Once it's gone it's gone.

33 year old Draymond has a 27.5M player option for next season. He's been pretty healthy and productive this season and maybe he sees this offseason as his best chance of getting another 3-4 year deal. The W's are in luxury tax hell and may let him walk if he opts out. Regardless of that speculation, Portland lacks the cap room to offer him the sort of deal he'd command.

We can, however, offer an extension with a trade. He opts in, we extend him for 2 more seasons. at more than I want to imagine, but what it takes to get him to come here. He gets his "3 year deal"

So in engineering a trade for Draymond, what would you speculate the W's want in return? They'd have to match salaries, so they wouldn't get cap relief. Steph would not be happy either, but I guess Draymond could force matters by threatening to walk. Not the path I'd choose for the team but Nurk + filler + the pick maybe?

good grief can you imagine how the Blazer haters would howl? I am 100% sure he wouldn't get away with much of what he does for GS... probably foul out in some 1st halves

I’m not a fan of Draymond at all. That being said, if the Blazers could get both Green & Butler or Derozan you have to do it! Culture smuttier let’s get a championship!!

You want our culture to get "smuttier"???

I'm cool with Butler but I think there could be better trade targets for us out there. I would rather not have guys one of which (Butler) will probably decline about the same time Dame does and the other has been playing some of the worst ball of his career the last couple of seasons and has always been highly overrated. If we were going to go all in on guys that are 33, I would want different players than a guy who has been surrounded by a bunch of good talent and still never won much and a guy who has championships but in my opinion is a product of the system, he played in, the great players he was carried by and getting away with more fouls than anyone else in the league.

So, no thanks.

With that said. If gsw loses in the first round, do they call it, blow it up and move on?

Ant and picks for Wiggins?

Dame/Sharpe/Wiggins/Grant/Nurk

Thats a good step towards contending. Another move, i would think, gets us there.

Draymond has been a net-negative on offense for the past 5 years. Might improve our defense, but would it be enough to offset the offensive drop-off after sending Ant out?

If we can get a two way wing, that's either an all star, or border line one and a physical enforcer type post player that can board and block shots, we will take the next step.

"Almost done" vs "If you think Butler is done..."

Butler is certainly towards the tail end. Guys just start falling off in their mid 30's with some very rare exceptions.

Jimmy certainly isn't my absolute first choice for targets.

But i also would not hesitate too much about acquiring him.

Beggars can't be choosers.

It would be good to have a vet thats not afraid to get on other players when they dont work hard. This team really doesn't have that voice or enforcer type. Dame, Grant, Simons & Shaedon are not vocal.

Utah has Sexton so they probably don't want Ant but if we can somehow get Lauri from them, he's cheaper than Wiggins

Now you sound like @swish3. At his age, and after the season he put up, why would Utah have even the slightest interest in parting with him?

Maybe our draft pick becomes high enough and they value a player in the draft (that could be had with where our pick lands) so much so that they'd make him available
Wouldn't Lauri go, at worst, 3rd in this draft (and most likely 2nd)?

for sure, Lauri Markkanen would be an incredible add for the Blazers. A Markkanen/Grant forward combo would be pretty dynamic

but...the window for Portland adding Markkanen has passed. Portland had a great shot at Markkanen but of course, the idiot-not-savant Olshey fucked the trade up....way way up and way way fucked...way way dumbfuck

less than 2 years ago this is what the Bulls traded Markkanen for:

upload_2023-4-20_9-7-9.png

the Bulls were willing to accept what Portland traded for Nance. Blazers could have cut Cleveland out of the deal and have just taken Markkanen instead of Nance

Blazers keeping Olshey on the job for all those years is like if the tanker company that owned the Exxon-Valdez had kept Captain Hazelwood on the job for years even while he kept running various ships onto the rocks. Maybe Olshey was a day-drinker like Hazelwood; that would explain why he needed somebody to park his car

Check the thread title. With Steph and Poole, why in the world would the W's trade their stud 28 year old SF for Ant?

Check the first paragraph of my post asking if they will blow it up?

i created the thread btw smartypants! ;)
