What about Ant/Nas/#3? I hate it because I think Brandon Miller will be much better than Bridges eventually but if we are forced to upgrade immediately I think Brooklyn might pull that.

I hope we hit #1 so bad so we aren’t forced into trading the pick or Sharpe.

Brooklyns goal is to find a player that will be as good as Bridges. Ant is not as good as most here think. Nas is worthless, so Brooklyn would need to be convinced Miller will be as good as Bridges……I’m not making that trade if I’m Brooklyn

I actually think he will break out if given the opportunity.

For instance, if he were to go to Orlando and play point guard, he could be an All Star.

I don’t think he’s Dame. I think Sharpe has a higher ceiling. But I think Ant is a good player who has been playing out of position in a terrible system for him.

I agree that Ant could be better in another place similar to CJ. But let's not act like CJ has been other worldly since going to Nawlins. He's actually been who he was in his career in Portland. I think his leadership has taken a step up, but his actual play has pretty much stayed the same.

I look at Ant as mostly a potential Lew Williams, or Jamal Crawford type player. Maybe even with the potential to be more accurate. But i don't see a natural facilitator. And therein lies the problem in Portland.

I think Ant did a good job the prior year as facilitator. Once Dame came back he seemed to struggle. I’d be ok with Ant as PG and Sharpe as SG, then ideally a true SF

Yes. A SF with a bit of size.

And a PF that can rebound.

If we had those pieces, we'd be better off than where we are right now with Dame. Maybe it's adding a power forward and sliding Grant to SF and bringing Ant off the bench as a 30 MPG third man playing both guard spots while keeping Dame.

I dunno, and it's hard for me to tell whether switches on picks are a result of the players or the defensive scheme.

It's also possible that Grant can't defend wings these days, in which case he goes from a defense-neutral guy to a negative on defense... which, if we still had Dame and Nurk might be disastrous. Haha

I think Ant could be much better than CJ.

But let me be clear. NOP is not a good system for CJ. They're asking him to be a distributor on a team with other quality scorers. That was NEVER CJ's strength. He's not a point guard. He's a lead guard. He and Ant need to be the primary scorers. I don't think either one of them is a point guard on a contender. So either they need to play with a defensive minded guard who can help cover their weaknesses on defense, or they need to play on mediocre teams where they can be the primary.

People might think it's unrealistic to start a trade option with "if Wemby then..." but since there are only four teams with better odds at getting the guy than we have and the most any team (three of them) has is a 3.5% better chance to get Wemby than we do, I don't think it's unrealistic just unlikely. In fact I think us getting Wemby is more realistic than any singular trade idea in this thread actually happening. I don't think any of us think any of our ideas have better than a 1 in 10 chance of happening.

With that said, if we do land the first pick and therefore Wemby, I think that Julius Randle would be a really good guy to target. I think that he is in need of leadership and I don't think there is a better leader in the game than Dame. I think he's strong and could handle some of the post up defense from bigger guys that might initially present problems for Wemby. He rebounds well, he can defend everywhere on the floor, he switches well on defense and obviously can score in multiple ways.

I think due to the inconsistency both of his play from year to year and his attitude from game to game that he is risky and that's why I could see it only taking Ant and the Knicks' pick going out in a deal that brings him in... I do think there would have to be a third team involved because they don't need another crafty, small, score first guard but I do think Ant's talent with it's matching salary and that 23rd pick is what the Knicks could expect to get for Randle given the inconsistency. Maybe I'm just overreacting to very recent events though.

Regardless, giving up Ant for a S&T Cam Johnson isn't a bad move in a vacuum but I don' think it makes enough better to meet the goals that Dame and Joe have been throwing around. I do think all of this talk is fun but completely pointless until the 16th but still...

I think Ant for Cam Johnson is maybe a small talent upgrade and seemingly a much better fit around Dame and the needs of the team but it sure feels like an Olsheyish move to me, especially if we were the team adding the "and some". It's our role player for their role player that we're hoping is an upgrade and/or better fit but still just a role player. I think we're going to get better than a role player this off season in a trade the only question I have is just how much are we going to over pay for him or them.

How are they going to get better in the immediate? He's already 26 and he doesn't want to be there. Why not trade him and start the timeline at a younger age? Ant plus 3 future 1st seems like a good idea in all honesty. Ant has a better chance at being a true #1 or #2 option than Bridges and he's younger. Do what OKC did. Stockpile picks and get young enough to where you can really go for it.

Sticking with Bridges seems like a road paved for mediocrity.

Except their records are not representative of where these two franchises are. Brooklyn doesn't have a superstar. They have one, borderline star. The Blazers have a superstar and are in much better position to compete for the immediate than Nets. Lost me.

I'm saying for the sake of argument, if he wants out and play with Dame as it has been reported.

It's not about caring. I'm saying if I was managing the team, I'd probably trade out of Bridges and go way younger and continue to stockpile picks for the long haul. The Blazers being managed to be mediocre is not a valid argument for why Brooklyn should.
