It would be a better society.
That is now referred to as the Bloody Code when it was applied in the late 18th and early 19th century. It was relaxed in 1823 with the Judgement of Death Act.
This is one of the reasons for declaring our independence.

Your proof is anectdotal, which is has merits, but its not like many of us want to live in Singapore conditions.

I for one am against a police state, especially with how corrupt so many police are.

Most of these countries, they don't fear each other, they fear the government. Im not sure exchanging one fear for another is as amazing as you make it sound.

An ultra modern society sounds better than the cess pool that is America

Ultra modern lol, thats just a sales term to throw around to say that if someone doesn't agree with you they’re archaic, or against progress. However you’re changing arguments now. In police states the only thing modern about them is theyve paid off tech companies to herd the people for them. Which hey if that is you’re thing go for it.

What's wrong with this:

unlawful possession or carrying of firearms is punishable with imprisonment of up to 14 years and caning of six strokes. Worse, using or attempting to use arms when committing a scheduled offense is punishable with death, as is trafficking in arms.

Pretty good, IMO

Im not for the death penalty TBH, Im ok or mostly ok with the rest.
I don't believe in the death penalty, either but I also mostly don't agree with the rest. Similar punishment was part of the law in England in the 18th century and they got wise and threw it out. Now days, no country practices such harsh punishment. Well, maybe some of the failed states.

Yeah, Singapore is such a shit hole.

The harsher the laws, the more obedient the general population will be. More respect, out of fear.

How do you guys feel about this? I'm all OK with fully-authorized, law-abiding citizens owning weapons, but:

1) The background check system (or lack thereof) seems totally broken and, in my opinion, needs to be completely revamped/modernized. I really hope Congress can get something done here.

2) Automatic weapons need to be completely outlawed. Whether semi or full, I'm not certain, but there's no place in our society for these mass killing machines.

Ive never minded people wanting CCP and having guns. Just have better background checks. the NRA wants it to be easy only for self gain. But that comes at the cost of peoples lives. Blood money.

I have a problems with people wanting ar-15s and the like to not be outlawed. What good have those guns EVER done?

The answer is nothing. There is no justification to have them.

When I was graduating from college, I was offered jobs in Singapore and Venezuela. I chose working here. Now, I think I made a good choice. By the way, it's illegal to chew gum on the sidewalks of Singapore. There's also a law about showing affection to your loved one in public. Again, they do not tolerate homosexuality. Not really a good place to be since you must constantly watch your back.

And they won WWII and the Korean war not to mention the Civil war.

I think war only proves that there will always be bad guys with guns, so there needs to also be good guys with guns.

Could you imagine the James Gang rolling into town shooting things up and nobody has a fire arm to defend themselves.
Every generation since this country was founded private citizens have had guns for bringing home the bacon and protection. Im all for checks and addressing recklessness with firearms.
Gangs & Thugs will always their guns, one way or the other.

Yep, it's called the American military and American police forces.
