Scoot Henderson thread

The Scoot’s a Bust thread is leaking.

I don't know if its this video or a different one I saw, but it mentioned Scoot's 3P% goes way up when he holds the ball for 6 seconds or longer. I don't know why we would be playing him off-ball unless we're just getting him more minutes.

With Scoot shooting struggles I wonder if it's more important to often pair him with big man shooters?

So for example always have him and Duop come in the game together. Could then still spread the court with 4 shooters, so our offense still has great spacing.

Like some things I see from Scoot but I just don't see him succeeding in big minutes with traditional lineups this season. The bench has been much better for him though.

How worried are we about him being able to fix his shot? It looks really ugly, some of those misses weren’t even close. Is this a DSJ/Nkilitina situation?

It's all going to depend om his work ethic. He has to be maniacal about this because the physical tools are there. The learning curve is much steeper than I expected. He has to become a better finisher and shooter. That will be the first step in opening up the game for him.

I got some Mudiay/Dennis Smith jr vibes last night while watching up close and in person. Need some more positive plays from him to get through these obstacles. But I am currently a little bit worried.

Draymond pulled him aside spent quite a bit of time talking to him after the game....not sure if cameras caught that. CP3 and Steph also were constantly chatting with him during the game.

He’s just a super likeable kid. And everything I have read is that he’s a gym rat. It’s just gonna take time. But I have said before, he’s not as developed as I thought he was. As we were TOLD he was. I still think he’s gonna be good though.

As far as his shot, i think he jumps too high on his attempts. It would regulate hid form quite a bit more if he just jumps a little less.

Actually after that atrocious 9% start, he is shooting pretty well.
His 2-point shots looked great in the last game.
At one point in the game, he took the ball and hit a floater when his teammates (including Sharpe) were playing hot potato with the ball.
Scoot was 4-6 on his 2-point shots (and 0-3 on his 3-point shots.)

Here are Scoots shots from the game against Golden State.
The floater and mid-range jumper are looking very good.
I would like to see more shot attempts of these types of shots.
He actually made one of them (more of a flip-in shot) off of a miss of a 2-point shot by Anfernee Simons, rebounding and putting it back in.

Also he finished one with contact well, unfortunately a charge.

Even though it was an offensive foul, it was impressive to me that he hit a finesse shot after running into a defender.

This floater was well defended and went straight in. (at 1:30 on the video above.)

Yeah it appears his 2 pt mid-range shooting will be fine, 3 pointers hopefully improve over time he should take less of them for now, and his attacking the rim should improves as well with experience

He shoots the way he plays/moves on the court. That's his problem. Compare to how calm and relaxed Shae is when he shoots a three.

scoot is going to be fine, the stuff he is bad at is fixable, and the things he's good at are difficult/impossible to teach and/or god-given. but they're different things than what shae has, or chet, or any of these other prospects. because they're different players.

people still seem to be coming to terms with the fact that he's not quite as baked coming into the league as we thought. and my guess is it'll take a while for people to get their feelings out about that, or in the case of national media types, it'll be a while before they fairly give him another look.

If he was too good we'd win more games this yr than I'd like, so him taking yr or two for Scoot is fine, maybe get a top 5 pick this yr and with the GS pick and see what happens.

I think we had too high of expectations. So seeing him play like a Mudiay level player has been bizarre.

Right now he really ought to be with the Remix. But I'm not worried - he’ll breakout eventually.

Damned accurate.

I don't think the Remix is a good idea at all. I don't think the G League did him any favors. He needs to be playing in the NBA.

Good call. I’m starting to think the same, start inside out.

I won’t say this is an unfair take right now. At times, his handle does look kind of clunky and I’m not sure why. People have mentioned the size of his hands, but I didn’t see this being an issue in the GL.

The difference between Scoot and those two though are that teams DO respect Scoot’s size and speed. When we gets into the paint, it does look like he can move guards out of the way. Two years ago in Ant’s breakout game, I saw Ant just move Trae out of the way getting to the basket. I’m excited for when Scoot can harness his speed/power. I still think he’s going to be a combination of Russ and Bledsoe as a player.

Russell Westbrook was bad offensively when he came into the league at 20. But he got to the line 2x as much as Scoot (per 36). Scoot isn't really showing the knack for getting to the rim that was advertised. He's no Westbrook/Morant/Rose, coupled with the fact he'll most likely only ever be an average at best shooter, his career isn't looking good.

It seems like he'll be a servicable player, but no star.

He simply has to work on his shooting a LOT. These numbers are ok for now but teams know he can't shoot. There is no reason to guard him up top. bad bad bad

I think it's decision making for now and shooting in the long run. Right now he should be exploiting his strength, quickness and speed advantages. We saw one play out of him tonight where he easily blew by everyone and made a sick reverse layup. More of that, more defense without so much fouling, continue making the right pass and let the shot come along... no more pull up threes for now. The young guy could be impacting these games a lot more for the positive if he'd just do what he's already good at. I think that will come soon, the shot from distance might take a while.

We better have shooting around him though. Because in today’s NBA if you’re not any kind of threat of a jump shot it hampers you much harder. Unless you’re doing all the other stuff, which he’s not really

I think Scoot will be fine. He'll at least be an above average player.

Right now, he's a complete mess on Defense. He gets stranded in no-mans land and misses a lot of rotations. He just doesn't know where to be. That will come in time...

It really bugs me that he carries the ball almost every single time he dribbles. The refs don't call it, so I guess it's fine for him to do it.

I do see glimpses of his all-star potential. Don't know if he'll make it to that level (depends largely on his shooting), but it's there

scoot looks awful to me. I know he has a great attitude and personality but seeing how bad he is at almost everything' he was said be good at is perplexing to say the least. I'm pretty sure if scoot was on any other team a lot of the posters here would not be just saying "im not worried" no matter had bad he plays game after game. the g league is a scam
