I would rather keep Lillard, CJ, Trent and continue to see where Collins goes and continue to play Nurk.
Seems to me Trent pretty much guards any wing out there.

Nope let’s just offer GT an extension in the fall.
Exactly. Give him an extension and see how this plays out. If the team is really good you look for both Dame and CJ to take a little less to keep players here on their next contract.
Great players make those kinds of decisions to make great teams.
Dame and CJ have both made plenty of money. They want a Championship.

You let Whiteside drop off the books and pick up a solid backup . You see what Ariza wants because he is slated for one more year at just under 13 mil. Nurk is wrapped up for 2 years. Hood has one more year. Simons has 2 more on his contract.
There is a question on Anthony.

Regardless, if the Nuggets are missing players, that was a solid win and Portland's actually entertaining to watch again. All four games have been a vastly different viewing experiences than the rest of the season - for my money anyway. I guess Nurk makes that much of a difference. Offensively, things seem to run pretty smoothly, with the ball being passed inside/out instead of round the horn of the three point line from earlier this year. The energy and activity on the defensive side of the court to end the game was encouraging.

So, who can we realistically take in a playoff series? Denver's a bad match up if Murray and Barton play and Porter stays relevant. Paul George gave Aminu/Turner/Harkless/Hood fits last year and Melo isn't an upgrade defensively. Now we'd have to play George plus his superior clone, so Clips are a bad matchup. I think anyone else is beatable. If they follow standard playoff format, I guess we could avoid both until the WCF. Hmm.

What can he do when CJ has worst game in about 2 years? Zach has been trash tonight so many turnovers and missed layups. Nurk is a beast but he misses too many bunnies. Melo also had bad shooting night and whiteside was total crap also. Dame and trent jr ballin
I believe Zach had 2 turnovers really but you didn't mentioned his 9 boards that lead the team.

The questions aren't limited to just Melo. Hood suffered a career altering injury. Ariza is getting old and isn't exactly commited to the Blazers. Collins' ceiling may well be "decent back-up center." This team isn't going anywhere until it gets a meaningful upgrade at forward. If Trent can play, keeping CJ and his ugly contract is not the best use of limited resources.

So much gloom and doom over a win.

:dunno: Last year the team was in the WCF. This season, some fans are satisfied (even excited) at stumbling into the 8th seed with a sub .500 record. Some of us see this as a huge step back and are not satisfied with the status quo.

The only question is melo and that isn't really a question. If he comes back it will be for around the same money.
Hood has one more year. He rehabs and try to come back. If he can't play well you let him walk. Simple.
Trying to say Collins is at his ceiling is just plain crazy talk. He also has one more year. There is no question there. He stays and plays.
Ariza has one more year only partially guaranteed 1.8 million.
The Blazers do not have limited resources. They are fine.
Pau Gasol Off the books
Swanigan off the books
Whiteside off the books
Anthony off the books
Ariza off the books mostly???
$45 million off the books if they want it gone.

Why is it a step back? We had a ton of injuries that cost us wins. Clearly, if we had Nurk and Collins at all season, we’d be a top 3 seed again. We’re excited about 8 seed because after all the injuries, we still have a chance. First round will be the real WCF and we have a chance to beat them.

I love this action

So many options on that with how poorly denver played it

Sorry, but while I saw some good things tonight, I didn't see anything to indicate this team would have been a top 3 seed without the injury issues.

Exactly. This team is lookinng pretty strong and it is a talent driven league.

things are gonna get tight with hood and Ariza back. But we need those guys. CJ? Not so much, but I’m not sure who he’d bring back in a trade.
Ariza is nearing 40 and Hood may never be an NBA player again. I'll worry about how we deal with too many quality starters when it's actually an issue.

I'm not sure Portland can. I'm thinking extensions can only be given after the 3rd season of the contract, and Trent will only be in his 2nd this 'fall'

the new CBA might have changed that though

Dame and CJ already signed huge 5 year extensions which would go beyond any Trent or Collins contract.

If Trent gets a near max contract and Collins is due a nice raise plus Nurk will get a raise the Blazers might have to get rid of somebody and CJ would make sense as he is so highly paid with no real upside left.

But they don't need to do it until the 2021 trade deadline or summer prior to 2021-22 season. So I partially agree with you, let's first see how this roster looks next season.

Plus we have no idea what the salary cap structure even looks like when revenue is decimated by Covid.

Whoa I love Trent and what’s he’s doing but near max????

Not sure who we could beat in the playoffs matter, only seed we can get is 8th and Lakers are locked in at 1. If we can steal first game or two and get a crazy hot shooting back court maybe we can make it competitive. Just hard to overcome two MVPs that are better than Dame.

We probably need Dame to be 3rd best player in that series close to LBJ and Davis... then have the best 4th, 5th, 6th player in that series too from CJ. Nurk, Trent. Probably also need Collins and Melo to play well. It's not impossible but it'll be pretty damn difficult. I hope we get to see it!

If there was one year to be the 8th seed this would be it. No homecourt advantage throughout the entire postseason.

The Lakers are not even the best team in the west, and they will be missing both of their best guard defenders in Rondo/Bradley. I'm not afraid of the Lakers I legitimately think we could beat them.

Whoa I love Trent and what’s he’s doing but near max????
Crabbe nearly got the max and he never played this well. We offered Chandler Parsons the max and he turned it down. 3 and D is the most scarce position in the NBA. Trent would probably be the best player on the Knicks right now and it only takes one team with cap room.

that was a wacky game. Blazers shoot a lot better from 3 than 2; Nuggets missing a bunch of players and partially resting others. Portland red hot ans Dame even hotter but they couldn't gain any separation from Denver. And one of the apparition fans in the stands was some bearded guy in a nun's habit....anybody else notice that?

Dame was as hot as he was in that 6-8 game stretch at the end of January.

about Zach: I just don't see what his biggest fans are seeing. Right now, his impact is awfully similar to that of Harkless. Portland can get away with that if they get big numbers from the other forward position, but they can't if both forwards are below average in impact. That was the main problem with the Aminu/Harkless pairing as starting forwards. Too much inconsistency and too few big games and way too many disappearing acts

Crabbe got that because the salary cap was fucked up that year. Mozgov got a crazy ass contract that year. Evan Turner too. That wasn’t a normal summer. Plus considering the salary cap is going to go down this year because of Covid and the China drama. I don’t see Trent getting anywhere close to max. I think he’s around the 4/52 range
